I bought a whole lot of Pokémon games a year or so a go locally. It was $100 and came with a Gameboy Advanced too! The guy didn't let on that they were all damaged and didn't work, but I got them all repaired thanks to learning from Steve! I hope you're feeling alright today. Thanks for all you do
The worst part is it's not even a good investment. A flash cart will play the game better since it doesn't have any save memory faults like a normal game, is the same price or far cheaper, and can have many other games on it at the same time. "Retro gaming" investments are a joke. It's not like the original devs get money, just some huckster on eBay. And this doesn't even touch on emulation. Which is always an option, but if you want to use original hardware then at least use a flash cart.
@@mr.number9279 While I agree emulation is a fantastic option... I'm not sure you understand what an investment is, lol. An investment is something that increases in value over time. And while most video games do not always increase in value, Pokemon games most certainly do (which doesn't make sense because they were the most sold games, so the supply should be very high).
@@DisguisedPigeonLOL Pokemon games are a beanie baby lol. They're not "worth a lot", idiots put them up at high prices and they don't sell. People just go to repros or piracy, since it's not like it matters. Also that isn't the only definition of investment
@@mr.number9279You have no idea what you're talking about. Pokemon games are nothing like beanie babies. It is the largest franchise ever spanning multiple generations and dozens of different markets. Also, that is literally the definition of investment, haha.
Good lord. Amazing job as always. It's good to see people try to fix things themselves, but they really need to practice first on something that's not important before they attempt to do this kind of stuff if they are novices.
I suspect what REALLY happened was they bought it off Mercari for 100. Tried to fix it. Failed miserably. Sold it to you for 35 saying they were scammed by the previous seller.
in regards to the one battery terminal, in the future, stick the wire in the via immediately below where the pad used to be and solder it there, instead of trying to attach something to that thin trace leading to the via. you'll get a much better mechanical connection that way. cheers.
Really liking these long vids and I needed to see that pin repair for a similar project I have. Question: where can I find that super fine soldering tip you’re using? If it was on the Amazon list, I missed it
First long video I have watched as it came up as a suggestion, I think I’ve found a new channel to also watch ❤ the shorter videos on the other channel and in depth videos when I’ve got more time, fantastic fix! I wasn’t sure it was going to work 😅
Mercari used to be decent but after the new terms of service both the buyers and the sellers got real scummy. I used to sell on there time to time but now it just isnt worth it.
Yup. I used to think of Mercari as helping me be a bit more eco friendly when I needed something specific but didn’t want to buy new… or to sell something I no longer needed and make sure it got a home. But now it just feels like supporting blatant corporate greed. Both buyers and sellers losing out. :(
I have the same game and its battery is dried up. the game play normaly but its clock doesn't work. you see, some events occur every few hours (tide) but with the clock stoped nothing occurs now.
on one hand its hard to believe that emerald is so expensive, but on the other i can understand why.. im just glad i was able to get my copy for around 30$ before the price went sky high
Hey 👋🏻, Unfortunately, I find the mere starting of the game does not ensure that it also works properly. I myself had the topic with a mod from the German Pokémon Crystal version to the Japanese PCB (it just looks cooler). Something probably went wrong here with the soldering of the ROM. I was able to play and save the game. But something must have gone wrong when saving. Because when loading the savegame, you could already see hieroglyphs and the savegame could not be loaded. So the ROM-Chip down again and back on it and then everything went and I was very happy. Maybe also test this after such work? Lovely, mofde
I'd actually love a video of my electronics being repaired , even if they turn out to be un fixable It would alleviate any suspicions and educate me about what went wrong with the device
Man I had all of these Pokémon GB games back in the day and if I knew what they were worth, I would’ve kept them instead of throwing them away! They were everywhere, they only went for $5-10 each used and I just didn’t see the value overtime. How naive I was.
Nintendo : FUCK EMULATION BUY OUR ORIGINAL HARDWARE you are makeing money off our stuff that we dont get!!!!1 The Original (and limited) hardware : 299$ which they get 0 $ off

im guessing the buyer never got refund maybe he never read description what lot buyers dont read and maybe it said was broke lot money too lose on broken game
He may be uploading older videos. He has cancer and getting chemotherapy. He's lost his hair now so it's an older video based on his hair. He might be too busy/not feeling well to upload all new content
We've been using this channel for uploading long versions of old content for people who want to see more of the repairing process. So there's a good chance some people might have already seen these, just without the extra content
Good job. Little advice you need to work on your solder skills better. Also get some micro drills to clean out the holes. You also can replate the contact pins with gold to make them new again. Your tweezers don’t seem to grab very well at times, so get yourself some top line tweezers they are worth paying out on. Sorry I’m not slagging your work off I just think you need some better tools to help you more to improve your skills. Get yourself some copper trace kit, they will really help you as well. Anyway good job glad you got it working. Ultrasonic cleaner is a good tool too and remasking kit too.

I will never stop being amazed at how much money people will pay for nostalgia.

One of the best repairs on the channels
New channel name, Tronics Fix Lounge where we chill watching some tech fixing
Lounge😂
Seriously
It’s long… ie for his longer vids

Who soldered that? Stevie Wonder 😂
Lol, maybe!

Whoever butchered this board originally should be banned from ever touching video games again.
Bidenomics
Collectors will be crying at the state of that board 😢
Yeah, that's totally true. Not really a collector grade game.
@@TronicsFixLongs Na bro it's totally collectors grade; because you fixed it, your fucking awesome. its art. Start signing your work.
Nice work! Overwhelming amount of repairs, actually amazed you were able to repair it.
My favorite tech repair channel
You should buy them in Germany and import them. They are sold for ~20€ here, German and English version.
At 26:00 why did you make a loop with the wire?

the beginning makes me feel good about my soldering skills lmao
Your soldering skill is excellent, great work!
Question, what microscopic camera do you use and/or suggest?
These are the ones I currently recommend that I've tried: tronicsfix.com/blogs/news/microscopes-for-electronic-repair
Amazing work! Your soldering skills is a master class. It's a joy to watch you work. 👍

Good god, I'm always surprised how much money people will throw away at such a common game. $30 I can get but... over $100?
Some much talk about "joints", it gave me an idea to feel happy most of the day!! ..... As always, amazing job!!

Typical dads: * slaps strapped down luggage 3 times * "That's going nowhere!"
Steve: * nudges soldered down component 3 times * "That's going nowhere!"
It's like the original seller was using this pokemon game as soldering practice.
Did the buyer get ripped off or did he not read the listing?
It looks like somebody used a 15 watt hardware store soldering iron to do this and that just does not work....
Dude amazing work!
Epic save man! Nice job
Love your vids. What micro pencil do you use ?
Great Repair and Video Steve! Thank You. 😀

Awesome fix! Three missing pins even.
wow men!!!!! An amazing job!!! if i had to fix that... i would be running in circles and crying on the floor like a baby
You should have used another board that matched up instead of trying to save this terrible board it's so unstable
Nice one!
Any ideas of what capacitors and resistors are used on these types of cartridges? I have read yhe resistors were 0402.
The fact that I owned three of these games at one point. Each of my three oldest boys had to have one.

I really hope he got his $$$ by that scam, Took his $100 & ran
where do you get that exact jumper wire? mine dosnt wanna solder onto anything
That was amazing work!
what pen do you use to scrape away the grenn stuff to see the copper underneath
Just a grinding pen. You can get them on Amazon. You just have to be careful with how much material you grind away.
