    Excellent reaction and analysis, thank you. This song is almost 5 years old. It was on BABYMETAL's Metal Galaxy album released in 2019 - and it is definitely one of their more mellow songs, but they can do everything which is why they can collaborate with so many different artists and fit right in with whatever style those other artists might do.
    When Polyphia was confirmed on the bill for Fox_Fest (arranged, hosted and headlined by BABYMETAL in Tokyo at Saitaima Super Arena) we all had a good idea of what would happen.
    Tim Henson and Scott Le Page provided the guitar tracks for the original recording of the song and Fox_Fest was the first chance they all had to meet up and to finally do this very first live performance with them all together.

    SU-METAL is goddess on those vocals. I love Polyphia and prog in general, BABYMETAL have had flirted with prog before, even from the beginning (there is some prog elements in many of their songs, but in Rondo of Nightmare, Syncopation, Tales of the Destinies, The One, The Legend and in some more it is prevalent)

    The reason Babymetal can do these collaborations with other groups and sound like it fits is because all of Babymetal songs are different, you will not hear a single song in their library that sounds the same. Babymetal are masters in combining different genres and cultural styles too many different sub genres of metal, some are brutally hard and others are more poppy but no matter what song it is they are always well crafted and entertaining. Every fan will tell you that Babymetal is better live than on their studio tracks, live videos that say "official" will be studio tracks over live visual, "official live" will be both live audio and visuals so when searching make sure it says "official live"
    You spoke of the "syncopated sound" that was in this song, they actually have a song called "Syncopation" which I think you may enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/4hSiQHPbsbE/v-deo.htmlsi=ppCHqPR3Ds3DV-pT

    Welcome back to the Foxhole and now going back to Metal Galaxy era, it's been a while.🦊🤘🌅
    Metal Galaxy is a wonderful album and full of surprises, you're gonna find more songs like this with more mature sound, it came out in 2019 so isn't so new.
    The album version got the collaboration of Polyphia guitarists, and it's quite clear in the solo section.
    Tim Henson said when listening to this song that he would love to play this along with BabyMetal on the stage, he didn't know the final cut when he was doing the riffs on this song.
    The dance on this song is beautiful and graceful, they're showing another mature side and more complicated choreography. According to MoaMetal is the hardest song to dance along with BxMxC and Night Night Burn iirc.
    Song is inspired by certain "city pop" band (city pop is a subgenre widely known in Japan) and Utada Hikaru songs, when SuMetal heard this she doubt about it being a metal song but then the guitars solo were added and all make senses suddenly.
    Finally we got them together on stage and with this awesome live performance, it is their first time performing together.
    They did it again at Graspop Festival in Belgium and they hug each other at the end just like in this version only thing it was cut out, there's also a proshot clip but I'm not so sure about the sound mix.
    They already finished the Europe Tour and they did it along with EC playing their collab song twice at Resurrection Fest in Spain.
    Along with RATATATA this was definitely one of the highlights at FOX_FEST and a lot of Japanese fans were looking for, I guess that cool slow pace city pop element gives some nostalgia and that's why many fans love it.
    In a recent interview, Tim and Scott talked about a new song in their upcoming album along with BM, let's see what they got but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be something real good like this one.
    In a more recent interview BM said that they would love to collab along with Fall Out Boy, can you imagine?👀
    Next suggestion:
    - YAVA! with Kami Band intro live at Fox Festival 2017.
    They will be at Knotfest Brazil in October and hopefully they will add more countries nearby. México will also be part of the tour as special guests for Slipknot in November.
    Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

      Babymetal has also expressed interest in doing a colab with Slipknot as well. Cory Taylor has confessed that he is a fan after getting introduced to them by his son, Taylor has also toured with when Stone Sour and Babymetal opened for Korn on their 2017 tour. Knotfest is in October so who knows maybe a new song with the two might be in the works before then and the two joining each other on stage at Knotfest could be possible , I wouldn't put it past them.

    Lead vocals is Su Metal. Moa and Momo metal are the other 2. Momo is newer, Yui Metal is the 3rd original member.
    This song is further removed from Baby Metal's normal style, than the Electric Callboy collab was. The heavier instrumentation near the end, behind Tim and Scott, is a tad bit closer.
    I know of Polyphia, heard maybe a song or 2, but never really dove in.
    To hear their normal style, check out Guy's suggestion, or one of the suggestions in your Ratatata video comments.

Perfect choregraphy as ever from the highly-polished ladies and the stage production is off the scale as always. Babymetal are always an audio-visual experience of the highest quality. PS Although it's from a few years ago, I'd still recommend the epic...I mean EPIC!...performance of Road of Resistance, which is packed with incredible musicianship and audience control by Sumetal which is astounding to see. @@bobcieslinski Both the Arte video of that performance and others I've seen from Hellfest 24 don't have very good audio but maybe you mean some other Hellfest performance. The ROR live in Japan 2016 is an epic performance, with crystal clear audio and visuals, which is why it's usually chosen. But Babymetal always put on a good show
      I saw Zeppelin live in 79 but still prefer the video of the Madison Square 73 concert - it's like that, I suppose, where sometimes everything, from perfomance to it being recorded well, make for a classic, never to be seen again show. It's hard not to compare other performances against it when you've witnessed one of the best performances.

  • @MacTaipan
    @MacTaipan 3 місяці тому +16

    I would say that saying "BABYMETAL are usually doing very heavy music" is not wrong, but it gives you as incomplete a picture as you had before when you thought that they were just contributing the Pop parts to Ratatata (if I understood that correctly). In fact, combining Heavy Metal with other genres, being it Pop, Waltz, Hip Hop, EDM, Dubstep or whatever, is what they always do. There are not a lot of songs that I would consider "pure" Metal.
    I think the song "YAVA!", which they just recently released a video of a live performance of, is a good example of such a mash-up. And it's also a really good song. So perhaps you'd like to check it out.

    I witnessed this artistic play at the venue (2 times in the two-day Fox_Fest). What a bliss!! Soothing and exquisite performance by 5 elegant figures in the center 😍. In addition, classy incorporation by our Kami Band on both sides❤. Various elements created by 3 beautiful performers and 6 instrumentalists (4 guitars in total + bass / drum) with virtuosity were mixed and sublimed into one beauty by means of something like alchemy. The actual applause at the end of the song was much much much bigger than that recorded in this video.

    Babymetal are musical chameleons that can adapt to whatever style of music they turn their attention to. When they collaborate with other artists, they seamlessly blend into the style of that artist and make it look like they were always doing that. Over the course of their career they have tried their hand at many different genres and cultural influence and succeeded every time. Part of what makes Babymetal so unique is that you never know what they will come out with next.
    Since you've seen a couple of their collaborations, it might be time to see what they do on their own. I would suggest one of their live performances from PIA Arena 2023:

    The funny thing about this song is that it's from their 3rd album, I believe, and is about 4 years old. Scott and Tim wrote the guitar pieces back then and played it themselves on Baby Metal's album version, but have never collaborated together live until this show in Yokohama very recently. So when you mentioned how smooth they were, it was like old times, lol.
    Throughout the career of the band, they have done other collabs also. They have collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Thai rapper F.Hero on Pa Pa Ya and Leave It All Behind and several others that don't come to mind readily. I'm surprised you haven't reacted to them outside of this and Ratatata. And they are not tied into one genre, as other commenters have mentioned. They have a wide range of interests. For example, there is "Night, Night, Burn", Japanese/Classic Latin Dance metal number, "Da Da Dance", which is dance metal (these two are live concert videos) and one their earliest songs/videos "Iine !!!" (that's pronounced "e-nay", not Line, lol). I believe it's the second music video they had done back in 2011. They were VERY young at the time. That song has a real melange of genres that I had never experienced before. I'll leave you to hear it when you react, lol. Another great reaction Bob.

    64 year old musician living in LA, I've seen 600+ concerts, I fell down the Fox Hole three days ago and have been watching Baby Metal videos and reactions for almost72 hrs straight. I'm SHOCKED! They are amazing, total professionals and the music is composed so well. Having watched about 100 videos so far, I don't think there is a better live act in the world right now. Bob, I suggest you watch "Headbanger Live" next to get an Idea of their harder side. ua-cam.com/video/I2vuKOmd1js/v-deo.htmlsi=Oz5lSesi0vDzHISE After that video, I suggest, Monochrome, ua-cam.com/video/yimhcrsC2SU/v-deo.htmlsi=_I-aoMqiT7XnJS7i and then the original Karate video, the quality is world class and the song is hard and kicks ASS! ua-cam.com/video/GvD3CHA48pA/v-deo.htmlsi=f3T5LMVzCyWgKBeQ
    ENJOY the Fox Hole, see you later, I'm going back in!! (going to all three shows at the Hard Rock in Dec!)

    I'm of the opinion that Babymetal could have a career just singing big choruses for other groups. They are so good. A good song to check out the "Babymetal" sound would be their song Megitsune, or Headbanger!!!!!. They are a live band, so in general the live version is better - they seem to feed off the crowd. Monochrome live is a good choice though it's not as hard, and Metali which is a collab with Tom Morello is a banger. They are teasing they may be doing a collab with Slipknot soon. And Polyphia has asked them to guest on their next album.

    And we xan listen the power of 4 guitars, one drum and one bass abd backing tracks. We know, they are professionals. Moa us reaponsible for their dancing. And when Su failed in their first performance she made for her sister a new Choreo zhat helped her to keep her psce. It was quite important for the girls since BMTH were really their first personal friends that they made by themselves.

    Yes it was a great Collab for 2019 since then this song was created. Polyphia cot a special master with a dummy guitar track snd a dummy voice track. They extraczed the guitar tracks and replaced them with their own. And the guitar track went back to Japan and Babymetal created a new voice and dance track to finish the track. Polyphia only saw the result when they got the finished Cd. We know at that time Su was deeply worried "Is this really Metal: But at this time the purpose is a complete different one. Show non Metal composers that they can offer their services even to them. They are no longer bound to metal but can lend their takents to any kind of music they can get in their hands.

    You probably should go further back to earlier BabyMetal to better understand their performances prior to these collaborations. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of this new direction as I prefer the older styling. But with that said, it’s still entertaining but seems they are bordering a more pop or commercial approach these days. BM has the Kami band behind them. I’m not really sure why they collaborated this way, as the Kami band is outstanding though I heard BM thought it would be a fun project. You really haven’t seen the girls synchronization unless you go back a little, or at least the more individual songs. This dance routine to me was pretty simple in comparison. I’d suggest the following: ua-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/v-deo.htmlsi=Hd_dvVcjhMpCS8UO. BM has audiences of over 50k, they are quite popular but really in their own genre.

      @@bobcieslinski I agree, this version of 'Road of Resistance' shows you what Babymetal is really about.
      And as an added bonus, the guitars for this song were written and recorded by Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce for the studio version.

      I hope you realize that this song Brand New Day is already 5 years old (released in 2019). So this really isn't really in any way representative of babymetals "new" direction since it's not a new song at all:D

    • @Hymnodic
      @Hymnodic 3 місяці тому +2

      @@Tyyppl You have to see it from their point of view: They don't really like BABYMETAL. They live in the past from over 10 years ago. They also have zero idea what they are talking about because it seems they haven't actually listened to anything beyond old music. Like how almost the entire 3rd album was composed with a 9 string guitar and by far heavier than their 2nd and 1st album, which can only keep up in 'heaviness' because the Kami band doesn't actually perform the songs to the album score sheet, and opts to make them heavier. So the old songs gradually get heavier and heavier as the years go by.

    • @guygourley2411
      @guygourley2411 3 місяці тому

      @@Tyyppl I may be incorrect, but it appears the music video is quite recent. In that regard, the collaboration is also new, regardless of when the song originated. Which somewhat confirms this is a commercialization of the song/routine/collaboration. Otherwise they would perform the song in an original version.
