In other words, go back to the OLD days where kids played with kids unsupervised by hovering parents. LIKE "The Little Rascals" of old. Stop PUSHING the kids, stop HOVERING. The child builds NO character if there are always hovering parents.
This hits the nail right on the head. I’ve been telling some parents that their kids are way over scheduled. When we were kids most of our free time was filled with games we came up with and we never at a shortage of ideas.
Growing up was a lot of fun. Didn't know about being bored. When I got home from school, I'd just knock off the homework first, then it was playtime. Projects took more time, even going to the library. Some children had parents helping them or even doing their assignments. Sometimes I could ask my Dad the meaning of words but I had to everything myself. I even watched TV while doing homework chatting away to siblings or parents. I knew some of my peers could never have gotten a good grade if their parent didn't do their project for them. Seemed unfair to me too but I said, That's not stopping me. I felt a sense of accomplishment beacuse my grades were of my own effort, no help. I taught my children the same. I'd buy the glue and the poster board but I wanted to see them set it up and use their imagination. I'd credit them and support their efforts. On holidays I didn't mess with schoolwork, I'd just enjoy the season. When school was open, I was back to getting top grades. Always had to be amongst the top grades or be number one. No time to be bored
First time I've heard any parenting advice in a very long time that was worthwhile listening to. I've been screaming this very thing for years because I am a guitar instructor and my young students are all stressed out because of too many activities, high pressure at school and absolutely no free time for even the basic things needed to be a well balanced person. Their parents have them enrolled in everything available and they go go go 7 days a week. It's ridiculous and the results have been nothing but negative for these kids.
Where r u placed in US Or UK? my question is becoz, I stay in UK and most of my friends who have children are enrolled full packed in all activities. Leaving them no time for themselves to grow up know their own

This video and advice was outstanding. I lived in the country when young and the neighbour next door was probably 3/4 miles away. I wasnt bored. Nature was the magical place for me and each environment offered me a different experience like the forested area was full of vitality and tall trees giving a canopy to the little white flowers (the trillium) which is Ontario's national flour. There was often water and spongey areas with moss, rocks and so much more. I was in my own world observing, listening and drinking in the deep feelings and knowings of the stillness and the connection to the universal field of consciousness, of light and of deep knowing. The meadow offered me a different experience. I always had a friend close to me because I had a twin sister. However there were times, I just wanted to experience the magic on my own. I am glad I didnt start going to school until I was 6 1/2 years old. School was not challenging and or exciting for me. In fact it was boring and I didnt like it. I preferred the great outdoors, stillness and the beauty of the Creator. Thanks again for your great insights and knowing. Stillness and unknowingness is so vitally important. This is where you really get to know who you are. You are a magnificent and magical being. However, the school system, parents and our culture takes our power away. I know, I lived thru that. Was speaking to a woman today and she said I would never believe that you were not confident and or voiceless. It took me a long time to develop a voice. I studied myself under ancient wisdom for six years.

start with meditating, sit in right posture and force yourself to just sit for 3 mins. Gradually increase time and maybe someday even master mindfulness.
Boredom doe snot just come from idleness, it can come from monotony too. Doing a dull, meaningless job can can lead to an overall boredom in life. But adult life is full of dull repetitive tasks and time periods. How does an adult safely go on a road trip? The parent driving the car can get just as bored behind the wheel as the kids in the back, and it's much more crucial that parent has the mental discipline to stay focused and safe. How does one do a job that is well below their skill level, but it's all that is available and without it one could go hungry? How does one wait for the water to boil so that a meal could be prepared? Patience is part of that equation. Boredom is not an activity level, it is a feeling, a result of one's viewpoint on the situation. The feeling of "I'm bored" is an internal message to perhaps re-frame your viewpoint on what is happening.
THIS LESSON IS SO IMPORTANT!! I used to create a challenge with my daughter when she was 2 or 3 years old. We would sit still quietly for a few seconds or minutes. If she was quiet longer than me then we would celebrate in some way.. either cheer, get some nice dessert or go somewhere fun.. I definitely saw improvements in her ability to handle boredom
What a lovely way to end your time with WION. Food for thought on the positives of boredom in childhood. Total fact. Boredom helped me to be more independent and think for myself and is part of the reason I enjoy my own company.......all because of having a lot of 'time to kill' during long school summer holidays! I wish you every success in your new ventures Palki Sharma.
@@lifeisshort.stopwastingyou9600 True!!! I've read so many negative comments on UA-cam, even on positive postings so it's lovely to read one. Thank you.
I used to kill boredom by making regular trips to the library, especially during the summer. The fact that there were a dairy and two bakeries in the library's vicinity was also a HUGE plus. 😁🍦🧁📚. The library had a summer reading program that involved reading ten books over the summer and reporting them to the librarian. Those who fulfilled the requirements were given a special treat!👏🏽👏🏽! BTW, I would walk to and from the library by myself. Also, because I am a Baby Boomer, there was always someone to play with because just about every house on my street had children. There was no such thing as arranging play dates. You just went to a house and ask if someone could come out to play. Playing tag, hide and seekt hopscotch, jacks, drawing, fingerprinting, coloring, etc. helped me to combat boredom!
I'm 72 years old and I thank you so much. So grateful that I was born into a very different world. Back in April of 1969 I boarded a bus in San Francisco, California returning to my home in Brooklyn, New York. Thanks to my upbringing I did just fine. 19 years of age at the time.. traveling alone. The trip was a last minute decision due to my fear of flying.
I used to read signs boards when I was younger during trips. Car number plates, fuel stations. You can tell your children to do same. Also boredom gives room to meditation or pondering on matters. Unconventional Creativity comes out through boredom. It also helps to teach patience and balance.
But asking our child to do any sorts of reading signs and boards or car numbers is not creativity. I mean it should come from within not out of the task we give them
@@kirankaka55 Instead of throwing tantrums. I mean the tantrums come from within them. How else do you want them to control it. Reading signs is fun i tell you. They are different signs, with pictures, texts you can try it yourself if you're not the one driving.

Good point. I have really never been bored in my life. I don't even understand how you can be in this wonderful world. I guess when i have read every book, played every game, done every activity and learned every craft. Talked to every person that look interesting. Invented and learned how everything works. Understood all history. And thought every thought. Then i might get bored. But I think i will be safe for a few thousand years at least :) I am not afraid of dying but I might be a bit sad in the end about everything i did not have time for.

There is a book published in 1987 called “Being no one, going nowhere”. It’s by a German Buddhist nun “Ayya Khema”. Fascinating book on this very topic.
About 20 some years ago when my 4 kids told me they were bored. I said boredom is great! I was bored when growing up,on my own most of the time, I imagined and thought. I think I also developed a vital skill, self preservation.
This is applicable to adults too especially after retirement! Need to identify things you want to do and also accept the fact that there will be IDLE days too!
Absolutely, Palki ! A big fan of yours. This is a very important content and somehow I feel nowadays parents aren't good at parenting. Well there is a saying 'Charity begins at home'. I have found people (am talking about adults) highly impatient, and there is too much of planning in life but the irony is in the life most of the things (even the best ones) happen that you haven't planned for. I hardly find people enjoying the beauty of Nature, understanding the sound of silence. There is more appreciation for being superficial than being deep. I don't want to sound judgemental but the truth is nowadays people have very poor emotional intelligence and are very less creative, and when they are becoming parents they wont be able to teach their children the right values.
It's because of Shri Palki, l watched Wion. Missed you a lot. May God bless you with a future endeavours... Eagerly waiting to be back on another platforms.

Absolutely.. I subbed to wion 2yrs ago just right after I saw one of her news video....from then on i was glued to wion...... no doubt she is one of the star among many top journalists...... Will surely miss you 👀
This makes so much sense! No on entertained my brother & I as we grew up. I did it ourselves. We played games, and read and daydreamed. It has enriched my entire life, being able to use my mind to think and enjoy peaceful times.
I was raised as a single child by single mother that worked and commuted to work most of the day....I was left to my on imagination from playing to cooking....today at 33 year of age am bored at planned parties and events or dinners....I love my free time and it is around 5h a day....love how my mind needs time to think on its own...no people or tv
A much needed topic! Thanks to the entire team for bringing this up. My childhood was relaxed because my parents didn't enroll me in anything during vacations and I'm thankful to them for that. I enjoyed summer vacations, the way they should be. It is so different from today where parents don't give their children the scope to think and manage time on their own.
Not only children adults too should learn this. When I sit doing nothing I feel like I am wasting my day. So even when I want to rest, I think like I would waste my time. 😔
I remember when my kids once said to me, I'm bored!! I said to them.... well sometimes life's boring so get over it!! Stop pandering to every little thing!! Get a blanket and play camping!!!
This is so true. My daughter sometimes say ‘I am bored’. And I say, ‘you don’t have to be doing something all the time’. We have to learn ourselves and to teach our children to be comfortable being with ourselves and doing nothing. So we are not constantly looking for thrills and ways to escape reality.
I love this channel, they choose to be right and accurate rather than kind and compassionate which is a growing dilemma this day and age amidst all that unholy unrighteous bs
i am a pediatrician , i always insist on my patients that its ok for children to get bored. modern parents are super guilty about not keeping their children occupied 24/7. boredom makes a child innovative, explore their surroundings, more imaginative and less irritable in actual situations.
Palki is she leaving why is everybody saying it in the comments I won't watch this no more cuz it's the only reason I watch it well good luck I appreciate your honesty and good journalism
Wow thank you I never thought of why my daughter gets like that, thank you for the knowledge, crazy how something so simple we mes up by trying to keep them Entertain or busy the whole time
This was one of the best reports addressing Children 🌷🙏🏽🌷🙏🏽🌷 Because Children are not given a chance to be bored, we see around us, they grow into adults who are not able to manage parts of their lives in adulthood
I think WION is growing fast because palki her unbiased and balanced stroy telling abilities made most folks subs to the channel, but now i don't now if it's legit or rumors palki is gonna leave WION is under comment section... Anyway i wish you best wishes in your life
This is a wonderful issue brought up by you as there are many many many families, parents who do not know how to go about this in their family life. When we were young we would get into a lot of mischief and always entertain ourselves with playing with 5 stones or hop, skip n jump, in fact play alone also. No TV no mobiles, no gadgets to amuse ourselves so playtime or idle time was spent on the spur of the moment. Climb trees, play hide n seek in the house, water the garden, help doing small chores in the house and in the evening all friends i.e neighbours play from 5 to 7 pm throwball, 7 tiles, rounders and in the rainy season play Scrabble, Ludo, cards. Not like it is now a days. Simple ways of enjoying our playtime.
Without a doubt Palki will be missed immensely. It’s hard to imagine Gravitas without her. Thank you for your excellent journalism..

I wish you every success in your new ventures Palki Sharma.
if you enjoy your own company that is a sign others also enjoy your company.
@@lifeisshort.stopwastingyou9600 True!!! I've read so many negative comments on UA-cam, even on positive postings so it's lovely to read one.
Thank you.
I used to kill boredom by making
regular trips to the library, especially during the summer.
I love this. I'm 61 year old and a mother of four. I have four grandchildren and appreciate what I learned today. Thank you!
You are the kind of mother that kids can be proud of! Great presentation, Palki dear!
i can't help but believe that her parents were also wonderful. such a strong personality.
Please continue the story
I didn't know Palki is leaving Wion! I am emotional now. Palki, please don't leave.
Palki is the only news anchor at WION who talks naturally whereas all the others talk like they are struggling to read the words on the teleprompter.
I used to read signs boards when I was younger during trips.
Car number plates, fuel stations.
You can tell your children to do same.
Also boredom gives room to meditation or pondering on matters.
Unconventional Creativity comes out through boredom.
It also helps to teach patience and balance.
Brilliant answer!
I USED TO DO THAT TOO!! 😄
@@kirankaka55 also it's not a task. You won't interrogate them on it.
Palki ji is probably THE BEST news anchor today, absolutely brilliant.
In present episode,my daughter noticed and was very happy to that every time Ms.Palki is referring to single child, she used the "her"and not "him" every single time, these finer points sets her apart from ANY other news anchor.... God bless her...!!!
Thank you Palki ji for your outstanding journalism.
That's A Fact She will Be Truly Missed but will definitely follow her wherever she goes!!!🥰😇💋🌹😘
From Working with DD News, to CNN IBN, and WION and now she's taking a break or maybe an another new journey. God bless this gem reporter, and we as continue to believe that she'll remain true to journalism.
Palki Sharma's final Gravitas. You leaving WION will cause immeasurable damage to the channel. I watch WION because of Palki Sharma and l will follow her to whichever channel she joins next. Will miss you immensely. Hope you join an international channel because you are the only news person in the world that maintains India's integrity and reputation globally. You were the face and voice of crores of Indians. To-the-point, no BS, calling out the hypocrisy openly and bravely with the love for your nation never wavering. All the very best for all your future endeavours. There is no WION without Palki Sharma Upadhyay.

I Second that!!!

To the World's BEST News Anchor, best wishes and wishing you total success in your future endeavors! You are a trail blazer, the Sun among stars! The Mt Everest among News Anchors! I will miss you! THANK YOU!
Without Ms Palki Sharma Upadhyay, WION is DEAD! WION...my condolences! In a 10 Lap race, if Palki Sharma Upadhyay is in the last lap, the other anchors are in the third or fourth lap!
As long as boredom doesn’t mean procrastination then I can see it. We should teach kids how to deal with boredom cause that’s worth a lot more
@@amandaach1153 it’s boredom because you don’t want to do the thing since it’s boring and that causes you to want to do other things
Palki is the only reporter whom I liked listening to. Others don't have that oratory charm.
Palki...you are the best..and I cannot imagine Wion without you.
Will follow you wherever you go. Your journalistic skills are unmatched..Good luck in your new venture.. believe you are into fashion

Every word is worth gold. You will be missed dear Palki Sharma ❤️ All the best for your new endeavours. Will keep following you wherever you go 🙂
It's really sad😔
she will open her own WION and probably call it NEON
She's going where?
The message World is One with palki together was perfect and the message was working, I don't understand what circumstances had made this all change...
Excellent report. Perfect way to address that. Do nothing is ok. Thanks Ms. Palki
Excellent! When younger, I didn't appreciate having nothing to do, the contrast of dimmer moods and rainy days. Today I love going for a walk under the rain with an umbrella.
Exceptional and the best anchor of the present era. Viewers will miss her now. I wish her all the best.
Palki 🇯🇲 🇯🇲 who's going to speak the truth regardless of the powerful entities. Our source of real news is in real crisis. The planet needs you plaki. Just like global warning, the planet urgently needs good journalist like you.
Indeed, boredom breeds creativity.
This is the reason why WION is the best
You are my inspiration for one of the great Orator and I learn from you how you speak and make things understandable in a Lucent manner. Happy Teacher's day in advance ma'am.
Gonna miss you here. Pray it will lead to something better.
Salute Palki Sharma
I will follow Ms palki whenever she will Go.. hope she will change her mind to stay. I wish. I really really Miss gravitas without her. I need to look another online platform her in UA-cam..
Most probably she will go to NDTV or India Today.
We miss you palki madam. What makes you to resign ? There is non of the readers explained clearly like you. The way you present everyday topic is out of the world. Really shock and kindly change your mind and back to gravitas

Thank you Palki dearest💞
About 20 some years ago when my 4 kids told me they were bored. I said boredom is great! I was bored when growing up,on my own most of the time, I imagined and thought. I think I also developed a vital skill, self preservation.
'Embrace boredom' is the best advice I've got
This is applicable to adults too especially after retirement! Need to identify things you want to do and also accept the fact that there will be IDLE days too!
What rubbish things she posts. All is with the agenda to suppress the current crisis in India
Wow, such a healthy one! This segment has been quite informative to all the parenting bodies out there!
I clicked as soon as I see my idol Palki,
I hope you are back to Wion, because you will be missed
How pure your journalism is.
This is what we call WORTH spending time on a channel
Here's wishing you all the very best Palki! Good luck! You will be missed and how!
It's because of Shri Palki, l watched Wion. Missed you a lot.

Eagerly waiting to be back on another platforms.

I got great respect for WION news channel, just because of @palkisu. Gravitas is the one and only news I watch these days, just because of Palki Maam. Palki Maam, please don't leave. Even if you leave, I hope you come back with another news network that you prefer to work with. India needs GREAT quality journalists like you. Pleeaaasseeee keep giving us your gift of journalism. Just saying, if it is because of money, (which I feel is highly unlikely) we netizens can come up with a Patreon page just for you.
We will miss you palki in the gravitas edition in wion. Hope you have a very good career ahead

I am going to miss Palki Mam 😞 specially this series of Gravitas Plus
Don't leave or start your own youtube channel we will support you ..
will surely miss Palki..

Why she retiring? What is the reason actually?
Kids need to explore the world on their own they don't need planned activities. Creativity stems from boredom. 😃
We will all miss u palki mam😔😢. Lots of love and respect to you.😢
This makes so much sense! No on entertained my brother & I as we grew up. I did it ourselves. We played games, and read and daydreamed. It has enriched my entire life, being able to use my mind to think and enjoy peaceful times.
Good choice of words. Notice how Mrs Palki is using 'she' instead of stereotypical 'he'.
Miss Palki you are a lovely lady. I have enjoyed watching you. Thank you and God bless you what ever you may do.
You are the soul of wion
I remember when my kids once said to me, I'm bored!! I said to them.... well sometimes life's boring so get over it!! Stop pandering to every little thing!!
Get a blanket and play camping!!!
This is so true. My daughter sometimes say ‘I am bored’. And I say, ‘you don’t have to be doing something all the time’. We have to learn ourselves and to teach our children to be comfortable being with ourselves and doing nothing. So we are not constantly looking for thrills and ways to escape reality.
Thank you palki mam

Will miss Palki, Wion perhaps wouldn't be the same without her!
I love this channel, they choose to be right and accurate rather than kind and compassionate which is a growing dilemma this day and age amidst all that unholy unrighteous bs
It’s amazing how Palki Sharma can turn sth as negative as boredom to a “Gift too.” Sad that’s she’s leaving, now we can say our farewells as well 😥
Thank you Palki Sharma. Started watching news channels due to Gravitas and you. Thank you for that.
i am a pediatrician , i always insist on my patients that its ok for children to get bored. modern parents are super guilty about not keeping their children occupied 24/7. boredom makes a child innovative, explore their surroundings, more imaginative and less irritable in actual situations.

Yes, was hoping she'd tell us where she's going after Wion
