I think this song is about being depressed (i mean really, as a sickness). Depression is like a vampyre that sucks away your feeling of time and memory and most of your emotions (i feel no love). I had a depression myself and recognize this all too well. For me this is a brilliant song.
I believe it's about the sadness/depression that Josh Homme felt when a botched surgical procedure left him bedridden and hospitalized for a long time.
I know depression all too well and this hits right home. I've fought it for over 10 years now. I'm still alive. Hooray. Incomplete... Scattered, years of time lost to nothing, I speak, I breathe, even laugh, got great friends. But there is almost no love. The only thing that gives meaning is the one thing that eludes me. I'm apparently a fucking fantastic person and got everything going for me but God knows no girl I want wants me back! ###ing sh##t /rant end (sorry)

Very David Bowie inspired... loved this song and loved the whole album - each track was it's own unique piece of art, and it was incredible. Instant classic.
No song has hit me so damn hard, for a very, very long time. I've heard this tune many, many times since the day I picked up the album the day it came out, June 3rd 2013. However, I never heard it the way I heard it today, and for that I'm grateful. When a piece of art can make you feel like it's okay to not feel okay, that things might get better, and they also might not, but that if they don't, then you better start changing your perception and reaction to them real fuckin' quick- is a blessing in itself. "Does anybody ever get this right?"
My favorite line is "to be vulnerable is needed most of all, if you intend to truly fall apart" thinking of getting it tattooed. It reminds me that I need to open up and tell things to people if I want to get to the root of my problems so I can then build myself up from the deconstructed pieces.
Saw them yesterday and this song really hit my soul. I had my eyes closed throughout most of the song and just felt the music and lyrics.. It was a magical moment.
This is such a sad song. The lyrics are like the saddest words in the world; to feel no love. And to me the video is like a testament to mankind's depravity.. ruining all in our path, animals non the least. I don't want it to be so, I want us to change, to be the change we want to see in the world. Because we only have one world...
AWESOME!! Longest goosebumps I ever had while watching the interactive video with the lights down ant the volume up. You don't need drugs, this band takes you there man, all my love for this unique and talented ensemble of artists, past and present... they all helped build, what is in my opinion, the most original band of the last 20 years and one of the greatest bands of all time. QOTSA is nothing short than amazing.
Despite our eventual demise I take solace knowing this music will echo through the cosmos forever, conveying to all it encounters that this is human and is truly divine.
man, this is some seriously good songwriting right here. Love the way this breathes and progresses. Everyone's going off on the video (which I love but whatevs) but would you really just listen to that song!
to be able to take this level of pain and loneliness and turn it into a beautiful piece of music and poetry is just testimony of the marvel that are human beings.
Masterpiece. This song hit me deep knowing the context. Just the title of the song gave me chills. QOTSA and Gorillaz are the last few good music video makers out there. Just Perfect.
Fav album fav band. The artistry is baffling. Not only with the talent of the musicians, but the lyrics. The lyrics are to me what makes a song, and all of the songs on the Like Clockwork album are written beautifully. Especially Kalopsia... that’s my absolute fav❤️❤️❤️
Love this song and video. I listen to it before bed every night lately. It's uplifting, disturbing and macabre but the part celebrating being alive makes me smile and feel good
I must disagree with 49th's post (although some new UA-cam tyranny will not allow me to directly reply to his comment) Queens of the Stone Age's videos have always remained more about the music than the visual. And the visuals have absolutely been what you call "cheesy" before! But only if you ignore that the primacy of the visual in QotSA videos is never intended to supercede that of the auditory. It's like in much of punk music, how the simplicity and brashness of the chords and overall instrumentals may be intended to direct your attention to the lyrics! And those points aside, I think this is one of the most intriguing and intricately detailed videos they've put out so far. My faith in Queens of the Stone Age remains UNSHAKEN, nay, it is STRONGER THAN EVER!

I've LOVED this song since I first heard it in 2013. Its heart breaking how accurate this ties and correlates to my daily struggles. I suffer from depression. Sometimes I just shed tears for no reason. No matter what I do, it isn't enough. Im degreed, I have nice stuff, but im still so very empty. Im alive... hooray 🙄🙄. So what. This just hits a chord thats deep within my soul. Thanks qotsa you're music keeps me going.
Does anyone know if Jack &/or Meg White had anything to do with all of this taxidermy? I know Meg was a taxidermist... who knows now. Dean Fertita with lead guitar here and of course The Dead Weather, The Waxwings-they are all such a tightly knit group. Love that Josh Homme is the cop at the end of "Freedom At 21" for Jack's Whites video... If you haven't seen it, check it out.... :)
Scott Allen because I love and respect Jack White & Meg White and have a curious personality which my husband and I love. Where did I say that I do not enjoy the beauty of it? Oh, never mind. I mean REALLY??? your going to be my first troll btw... sad.
Cool tune! Sounds like retro 1970's dark classic rock, Floyd maybe but that's too common of an answer. Many classic rock bands have a deep tune or two, called "deep tracks", usually after track 6 onward.
This is one of those songs that hit you hard. Makes you think about last 10 years of your life, glooming over what could have beens. Josh actually stated this song was written in response to a suggestion from his wife, after he died for a few minutes while on the operating table for a leg surgery then came back to live
I know this song is supposed to be about a car accident or something personal in Hommes life but this song has always captured perfectly the way I feel once I've been sober for a while. The drugs were always the vampyre of time and memory

Nope. It's just Chuck Testa.

that's what I was just thinking
If 007 was good it might be amazing but the movies are so shit nowadays that it would give this song bad rep
That's it. Queens Of The Stone Ages needs to make a James Bond theme song.
