OH HELL YEAH IAN EXCELLENT so looking forward to all of them especially season 2 with Nigel and u given us an amazing show damn it was so funny and good loved it so did my kids u are awesome best wishes from across the pond in the UK Mark
Major thanks for the shout! That Batman retrospective is still one of my favorites I’ve done. This video was absolute masterwork, man. Very reminiscent of some of the old school AVGN at times during gameplay with the zooms/edits, and the classic NES OST in the background adds to the whole feel. Having your personal story front and center is what takes this over the top, with you being so young trying to fight the “thingy” on the ground haha. I never had this, but I did have the Genesis one and that one is STILL a favorite of mine on that console. It’s gorgeous, and while it doesn’t have the classic appeal the NES one does, it makes up for it with a Batmobile AND a Batwing stage. Plus the OST is just as good as the NES versions! I had Return of the Joker on Game Boy. Another great OST, but the gameplay was tough for me as a kid. Lots of grapple hook parts that I couldn’t master. Amazing work here, man. Loving this series already!
I loved your story about how playing Batman on NES is one of your earliest memories. I was born in 2000 and one of my earliest memories is playing an NES game with my mom at some point before she died when I was five. Little did I know it at the time, her and I were playing the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt catridge. I'll never forget hanging out with her and gaming. Her stonery ass laugh. She was a cool chick.
This was an awesome retrospective, Ian😁. Hearing all of your memories from your childhood and how these games are very special for you, just warmed my heart, and is always a reason why I think your retrospectives are the best in UA-cam history. You always nail them and I can’t thank you enough for them. I really hope I can try these games one day, and I’d absolutely love to see a top 10 NES games video from you. That be amazing😊. Thank you for this amazing start to the day, Ian, and I hope you and all the DanDans have a great one today😊❤️.
Nice work as always, Ian. Yes to the top 10 NES games lol. Glad you mentioned the music for these games, the soundtracks for both are absolutely fantastic. When you look at Sunsoft's output on the NES you can definitely see (or hear) that they were masters of the NES's sound chip. Blaster Master alone is a great example. And the graphics, holy cow. Both games look incredible on the NES, and thanks for mentioning how the 16 bit versions don't look at as good because it's 1000000% true as weird as that sounds. First time I saw the Genesis version of the game I was like "dude why does the NES version look so much better?"
It's wild how a year and a half feels so much longer when you're a kid. The first Batman game came out when I was in 3rd grade, and Return of the Joker would have been when I was in 5th grade and by then all I cared about was the brand new SNES. I have great memories of playing the first game at my friend's house across the street though.
My friend across the street had an NES. In the UK, Nintendo didn't get a big foothold until the SNES because SEGA was popular here as were the home computers like the Amiga and Spectrum, so NES consoles were a rare luxury of sorts for bumpkins like me. And I loved playing this game whenever they invited me over.
Damn, bro, that was fucking awesome. I never played either of these games on NES, but I did play Return/Revenge of the Joker on Sega Genesis years after it came out. I actually never grew up with any Nintendo consoles; my introduction to video games was the first Sonic the Hedgehog, which my cousin had. As I’m sure you can relate to on some level, I don’t come from a wealthy family by any stretch of the imagination, so video games weren’t really one of the “luxuries“ that got to be a part of our lives until we got our first Genesis, which, by that point, was already 2-3 years after the PlayStation and the N64 hit the market. It’s actually quite funny to look back on it and think about how, while certain friends were conquering Resident Evil, Star Fox 64, and Crash Bandicoot, I was busy falling in love with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage, and Earthworm Jim.
1:22 i mean, you COULD'VE taken a dip or two in the Lazurus Pit for all i know. 😂 Great video, man. These games are tough S.O.Bs for sure, but they are fun as hell. 🔥🦇
I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. Just so you make a retrospective vid on both NES Batman games. Definitely worth the wait. Thank you so much for this wonderful retrospect.
Definitely grabbed me a "Batsnack" for this one. God that Sunsoft music was some of the best on the NES. Konami Capcom and Sunsoft mastered that NES sound.
Found the first Batman game at a Goodwill for $5 years ago. To this day, it’s a top 20 game for me on the NES. Now if I can just find the sequel for that price. 😅
SWEET! I was curious how long it would take to start on the patreon goal videos since it had to be done amidst all your other content. & no shock you wasted no time & killed it as usual. Your retrospectives are the best thing on UA-cam. You da man ian
Another great retrospective, Ian. Always appreciate your hard work and love going into making these videos. Tim Burton's Batman is the definitive Batman for me. We need a Tim Burton Batman game so bad with today's graphics. Did you see the fan made Tim Burton Batman game that was leaked last year?
Thanks for this Masterpiece!! Before Mega Man Metroid or any other platfomer, Batman was my 1st ever platfomer I played. This game is hands down #1 on my favorite NES games and I love Sunsoft for this and Festers Quest and others!! The game definitely did the 89 movie justice! I remember my 6 yr old self going to the theater to see it and going to taco bell to get my batman themed meal w/ Cinnamon Twists with my Aunt.
Seeing you bring up Blaster Master and Taz Mania hit me hard, bro. Blaster Master was freaking awesome. Taz Mania was a cool game. Never made it to the end of the game tho. Batman is also on the list for being an awesome game. Loved the game growing up. The 89 movie is among my top favorite comic book movies of all time. Thank you for retrospective, bringing back some fond memories.
You may say "Batman isn't your wheelhouse" but I've got news for you, pal. Great retrospectives of video games certainly are! This was awesome, I hope the PSP gets fully realized, and that we can all enjoy what's to come from it. My first game was the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fighting game on Sega Genesis, with Sonic 2 right behind it. Just to share that info.
Dude this was sick! I love these retrospectives brotha. I remember how bad I was in this game lol But the fun was unmatched man👍 #ThanksForWhatYouDo #WeAreTheDanDans #MuchLove #BatmanRetrospective
Batman the Video Game is not only one of the best games NES has to offer, but for me it's also the best Batman game ever made. I've had so many good memories with that one, and the gameplay, simple as it is, still holds up to this day. It's a real shame it's never been re-released. As for Return of the Joker, its graphical style and music are forever burned into my brain. Admittedly I've revisited it only briefly since the 90's, so it's not as near and dear to me as the first one, even though I did have it as a kid.
I can still vaguely remember, but with a smile, playing through either the first or second #NES Batman at my cousin's house and it was and still is a damn nice game.
Great retrospective, as always. I'd love a top 10 NES games. And I never owned Batman NES as a kid, but I did rent the sh** out of it from our local video rental/pizza store. I've only played RotJ through emulation.
Batman: the video game was so great as unlike other movie based games, Sunsoft made the game first before they tried to secure the licence (film version anyways). "Journey to Silius" was supposed to be "The Terminator" but they could not secure the rights. All being said, your retrospective was awesome and yes, I would love to see what are your top 10 NES games. Also want to say "Hi Patches!" (1:21)
Top ten favorite games is a great idea. I would also like to suggest a video on your top ten favorite game soundtracks. Castlevania (especially Bloodlines!), Megaman, Batman, the Mario series, Metroid, Blaster Master, Sonic... so many to choose from! Not necessarily the proper forum, but to hell with it... R.I.P. Funk. R.I.P. Wyatt (Rotunda). Rest easy, fellas.
I will defend Festers Quest till I die. Yeah I filled out a Sunsoft card with an earlier game and randomly got it in the mail. But I still had a lot of fun with that game. And again that Sunsoft music hit.
I want to say my cousin may have had Batman for the NES, but it's been forever so I don't exactly remember if he did. And I would love to see your Top 10 NES games. Side note: Never had the Batman cereal, so I guess that means I'm not the real deal.
I had a 12in Batman from Batman Forever and an Aquatic/flying Batmobile that I took everywhere for years. My moms car was stolen from a Costco parking lot one night in 1999. When the police found the car my toys weren’t inside. That shit still hurts.
"Batman The Video Game" on the NES came out in 1990… BUT it was released in Japan in the same year as the movie… 1989 on the Nintendo Family Computer(Famicom)! And I have the Famicom version! 😉😉 Also Ghostbusters was a port of the game from a several different systems(including the computers of the time), first on the Commodore 64(October 26, 1984), MSX, Apple ][ (January 1985), Atari VCS(2600) 1985, NES/Famicom(JP: September 22, 1986, NA: October 1988)…
Good morning from 🇵🇭 ... I remember this game way back my Famicom days and maaaannn this one is also one of the hardest games (based on my experience) but the hardest one to beat is Ninja Gaiden even until haven't finished both games if it wasn't for game genie 😅
Love the video. One suggestion that would take it to another level. Please use CRT shaders that are availble on emulators, the games look 10 times better.
Glad you liked the video, I’m not really into fake CRT filters. I’ve never seen one that looked legit. Not to mention I recorded this off my NES Classic, not a PC. I never use PCs for any of my capture, always legit hardware. Well, the NES Classic is probably as far as I stretch the word “legit” hahaha
@@616Entertainment Fair enough. I think some of them look great. I like game videos that take us back to the good old days and bring back memories. I especially like when people talk about the hype of certain games when they were released :D

Your retrospectives are unmatched! And yes please on the top 10 nes games!
Did he ever release a top ten NES games video?
The Moment you entered the disk in Nes and the ost starts busting off me to myself : 'You're in for a show tonight, Son!'
Heeelllll yea.
Return of the joker has some of the nicest sprite art and animations I've seen on a nes
Major thanks for the shout! That Batman retrospective is still one of my favorites I’ve done.

Return of The Joker looks like it was ripped straight from the Silver Age. Sunsoft deserve major kudos for their Brave and Bold direction.
This is literally my first 616 retrospective
Hahhahaha. Well I hope you enjoy it and stick around. I've been doing this for a long time.
I remember going to see batman at the movie theater. It really blew my mind. And when the game came out man that was something!
I loved your story about how playing Batman on NES is one of your earliest memories. Ian you brought up your retrospective video of Castleavania! I’m going to watch it again for the hundred time lol it’s so good! 👍🏻
After the bad news in the wrestling world yesterday, this was a great way to start the day. I can't wait to see more.
You never fail to deliver, Ian! Another masterpiece!
The NES and Nintendo did something amazing by saving the gaming industry from being gone in the U.S. and that deserves respect.
The ending is sooo powerful "Moving on doesn't always have to be a negtative thing" sheeesh way to land it home
1:22 i mean, you COULD'VE taken a dip or two in the Lazurus Pit for all i know. 😂

Return of the Joker is one game where the NES straight up looks better than the Genesis version.

I always wanted to play this version or the Sega Genesis version
I played ‘Batman’ on the NES when I was a kid, and I still love it!
Holy shit poppa Dan Dan wearing his fedora before the meaning of that was changed. My eyes are blessed
Yes your top 10 NES and Genesis games please. Love to know on each system u have a history with! Might give me good recommendations too
THE MUSIC. THE MUSIC OF THESE GAMES.
I can still vaguely remember, but with a smile, playing through either the first or second #NES Batman at my cousin's house and it was and still is a damn nice game.
That was #ReturnOfTheJoker that I played ! Thanks for thawing the memory.
Thanks for watching!

I still play batman return of the joker to this day it’s still one of my favorite NES games to this day

Top 10 NES games would be an amazing video!
I had the Genesis version
I remember the Batman cereal! 😱
Long before the Arkham games came out, gamers had these two Batman games and I feel that Batman can have great games too.
Top 10 nes games sure .

I have that purple Batman action figure. Have it displayed next to my blue NES Predator on top of my NES
I had a 12in Batman from Batman Forever and an Aquatic/flying Batmobile that I took everywhere for years. My moms car was stolen from a Costco parking lot one night in 1999. When the police found the car my toys weren’t inside. That shit still hurts.
Batman with a machine-gun rocket launcher on his wrist is something that should happen more often.
That’s not a Batman move!
wow another interesting retrospective after a long time.......
Great vid DanDan

I really wouldn't mind a Top 10 NES Game video.
Top 10 (favorite) NES game video = Yes Please!
Top 10… yes please!

Nes batman definitely a top 10 in my book. Love to see re-release on switch nso. Or batman bundle

The Sega Master System version of Batman Returns is very similar in overall gameplay to the Sunsoft NES games.
Yeah my job is gonna have to wait. Hold my calls for the next 29 minutes and 17 seconds
This was SHOCKING! Until now, for some strange reason, I somehow thought "Batman: Return of the Joker" was based on the animated movie. 🙃
These games were awesome
I'd like a top 10 for sure of some nes snes genesis and whatever other systems you loved.

1:35 80 bucks in 85/86 isn't bad at all. Still only half of what new systems cost today at release. All the more why NES was awesome.

I'll answer that, yes. Hi, Patches. 😁
I love Batman 🦇 especially Michael Keaton! ❤😊
Is this the first video because of the psp? Well that sentence is confusing

Batman in Goldmember. 😆
