    I loved the SM465. I had one on my 1977 GMC K15 4x4. It would climb chain link fences. We have a 73 K5 4x4 that needs restoring. Had a 72 K5 fully restored and sold, and now my already restored 74 K5 4x4 383 TH350 is in the way. I can't wait to start dropping money into it!

    I got stuck with a 305 in the '86 G10 w/700R4 about 2-3years ago in CA. I knew that I had work to do then. Kalifornica don't know how to let you slide when it's about em.isions. I had to get Herman Headers ( w/air intern) and an Edelbrock RV cam BEFORE I can get it smogged... they might not like it, but I know it will squeak through the test. Then I can install 1.6 ratio rockers on my freshly port-matched heads and the biggest catalytic converter I can afford. That'll do it.

    Keep in mind those ujoints and transmission are only designed to handle at max 350 hp. That's how I scored my last truck for my son. More power than the gut could get to the ground without breaking stuff.

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  3 роки тому +2

      So far they're handling a 250 shot of nitrous. These transmissions will handle way more. Allot of 800+ hp pulling trucks use them.

    • @philthelawnman
      @philthelawnman 3 роки тому +1

      @@SquarebodyStuff well you know they rate the by putting double the power and torque to them to failure test. However those ujoints are not tested at double. Hey man hows it going? Was on your live with John the other night. Anyhow I am cobbling a Studebaker together and running Mopar Al of UTG in the Slaghammer gasser at No Name Nationals and was looking at using the same mufflers. My question for you is do the summit glass packs have a perforated core (small holes drilled or punched) or are they louvered (punched baffle look like little scoops)? I my self prefer the perforated core like thrush now uses cause the baffle pipe stays full size while the louvered core reduces size because the larger baffles are punched inwards. If I use a louvered core I put them on backwards so the baffle openings are open on the outlet side and I usually go with one size larger muffler than pipe (3''muffler on 2.5" pipe). Anyhow I would take any glasspack over a flowmaster. Flowmasters have there sound that myself I am not a fan of but lots do so they have there place. The problem I have with them is they should be called choke masters. To many directions of change and they flow poorly. I found this out years ago when I had one on a old 7.3idi turbo diesel and when I cut it off and put on a glasspack it picked 2psi of boost so that tells me how they flow. Good luck pulling wrenches!

    That quiet enough to not attract too much attention from cops cruising light throttle or taking off from a stop light easily?
    I just ran open headers on a pretty stock 350 cuz I grabbed the wrong gaskets to fix a leak and I think it would be pretty hard to get away with it for long. Accelerating from a stop it's "too noisy".
    I want it just shy of "too noisy" - not necessarily legal do wise but...
    Later I'll build a big block with cutouts but doing a quick and dirty change from full exhaust/normal mufflers.

      I won't have any problems in my neck of the woods. But the funny thing is, my last video that just dropped is the same truck, but with a 454 and making it quieter with some different mufflers. ua-cam.com/video/3HxLThiSqLc/v-deo.html

      @@SquarebodyStuff sounds good, nice. Thanks for the feedback.
      Down the road mine will probably have a 850-1050hp 565-598 (NA pump gas 24 or 18 degree). Wana do 4-2-1, into cut out but use normal side (straight through) for the x pipe into boom tubes out the side and the cut out side into larger mufflers. Maybe magnaflow, edelbrock sdt, vortech... idk yet but a good tone not overly loud when on cut outs and ridiculous otherwise 😆
      But for now think I'll do some 3" with my basic headers into an x and out the side into an 8" glass pack. Will refresh an 11:1 vortec 383 I have as a temporary engine while I save and build the big one.
      Being 4wd makes it more of a challenge with an X. And later might run outside framerails with headers (custom fuel cell) but then tire clearance (think 37x14.50 or something). Will get there eventually.

    What gear ratio do you recommend for the rear I believe I have 3.08 in there now but not 100% sure and I was thinking about a mini spool that locks the diff right ???

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  3 роки тому

      Gear ratio depends on what you want to do with it. Higher gears for fuel mileage and cruising. Lower gears for work and performance. Yes the mini spool locks the rear completely.

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  4 роки тому +1

      The biggest issue you have going from auto to manual is the transmission tunnel is too low. The manual cabs have a higher hump. It can be done, just depends on how much work you wanna do. Unless you are going with a smaller car type manual transmission. Either way you'll need the pedal assembly from a manual cab.
