The song is about how people are unfairly judged when they lose their life because of a drug addiction or because of suicide. "I cry when angels deserve to die" is basically saying it makes him sad when good people die because of their unfortunate circumstances. "grab a brush and put a little makeup, hide the scars to fade away the shakeup, whyd you leave the keys up on the table" essintially saying people put on "makeup" to hide their pain to avoid judgement, and that if your going to commit suicide you wont need your keys to get back in the house. Really deep song here by system of a down, but most people dont realize it because of how intense the song is.
I Love how u go from reaction to reaction and explain this!!! :)
Well said!
@@jacquessim90lol legit i see this comment by this dude at the top of every reaction for this song
@@Karenhiggins1969 nice try troll
Guitarist Daron Malakian, who wrote it with lead singer Serj Tankian, explained: "The song is about how when people die, they will be regarded differently depending on the way they pass. Like, if I were to die from a drug overdose, everyone would say I deserved it because I abused drugs, hence the line 'I cry when Angels deserve to die.'"
I knew it was about suicide and how people Talk about people who commited suicide (there was a possibility this whole song was about Kurt Kobain).
The title Chop Suey is just a Chinese dish and seemed to have no sense, but because the first title of the song was "suicide" but the Label told them to change the title.
Chop Suey is like "Suicide" chopped in half.
Late 90s and early 2000s rock and alternative was unbelievable.
It really was! I miss it..
I believe they are talking about domestic violence and the angel her the women and kids
He's saying "I cry when angels deserve to die" not why cry
Thanks for clearing that up for us❤️
BYOB! Please... Nobody will be disappointed 😜
Please! But, you gotta make sure you can see the lyrics. Otherwise it will just sound like a bunch of screaming.
Ahhhhh! You have to do BYOB by System of a Down next!!!!! 🖤🤘🏻
It doesn't mean Bring Your Own Booze/ or Babes. 🪖🔫🎭🗽☄💣💥🙏🤺🗣🧘♀️🙈🙉🙊😵
BYOB I HOPE THEY REACT TO IT TOO
*Toxicity and Ariels by them are AMAZING! PLEASE REACT TO THEM💜*
This whole album is like this. Every single song is amazing.
The original title was suicide, but the record company wasn't having it, so they chopped it in half. Hence the title chop suey. Awesome band. One of a kind.
You mean they chopped suey it? (please kill me)
Saw this performed live back in the day they put on a hell of a show
Father, why have you forsaken me? This song is deep and always pulls angry sorrowful tears from my black heart.
I've seen this band in concert twice. They are amazing live.
The entire album Toxicity is fire, more SOAD please. Thank you for your awesome videos, you rock!
1st one!!!! I love you guys!! Huge fan!!! Tom MacDonald brought me to yall, you all made me stay ❤❤
i think he's awful.
He’s a 🤡
“ The song is about how we are regarded differently depending on how we pass. Everyone deserves to die. Like, if I were now to die from drug abuse, they might say I deserved it because I abused dangerous drugs.”
That makes sense. I’m glad I read this bc I like the song more now. I wasn’t huge into SOAD back in the day and kinda thought the lyrics were just trying to be edgy. But I’ve since found out more about the band and it’s members and seen how thoughtful Serj is, but I never came back to revaluate the lyrics. But I really like the lyrics now, the idea that some lives are considered less important bc of a psychological and medical condition like drug addiction is something I’m passionate about. So I kinda love that a song with such amazing vocals and interesting change ups (and awesome drums, they’re so good) is also actually talking about something. That’s cool. Appreciate the insight.
With SOAD you always need to look for and understand the meaning of their songs. Almost all of them have meaning. This song is taken differently among fans but according the the band itself the song is about suicide and was originally titled suicide but was forced to change it's title before the song released. Their music is deep and on another level. Your next song by them should be B.Y.O.B or Aerials
Love this song and reaction! I also love that people are starting to see how awesome soad really was. Most songs have a much deeper meaning than people knew.
Exactly! 💯
Bruh, keep listening to this song without pause and more yesca trust me you get a new meaning every time...
been too long since I heard this song, I believe its about how we all deserve to die... and some deaths are thought of by society as more deserving because of how we lived... and i think the line is "I cry when angels deserve to die"
This will be remembered as a timeless rock masterpiece . I’m 63, and this is addictive .
Passing the hit was perfect timing.... TY guys for great music and interesting reactions! These guys are DIFFERENT and AMAZING!
System of a Down is a deep group. Serj Tankian is awesome and has one of the best voices out there. I suggest checking them out some more.
😁😁 you both are awsome.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Greetings from switzerland✌
I remember this video changed the way we seen a music video.. We never seen that before.. Floating in between each other in sync... And pure excitement for the world of rock in the day..
Great song! Thanks for reacting to it! Love your positive energy. 💕
You learned it. Not “why cry” but “I cry, when angels deserve to die”
And your canvas on the wall is dope!! Nice picture....it looks like one I took waiting on my kid in San Francisco at 19th
Awesome reaction if you wanna hear a softer song by them Lonely Day by System is amazing
Thanks for that hit Jai! Peace
I was legit lighting my bowl as you passed the joint. perfect timing.
What a great song great live in concert
Omg. I hope you guys love this.
Love u guys!!! 🙏
This song was to be named "Suicide" but the label made them change it, so its Chop Suey(cide) now. Great, creative, crazy band, enjoy them.
Been waiting on this one!
Love SOAD. They're concerts used to be wild as hell
OMG, my favorite couple loving one of my favorite rock groups. Love u guys. 😊❤❤🤘
I remember hearing this song on the radio as a kid. My dad used to laugh at it just because of how strange and different it was at the time. I guess I never thought very hard about it's meaning though, other than maybe someone who's just angry at the world and wondering why good people die for not very good reasons. Fun jamming with you two! \m/ :)
Yes, they rented out a motel and made the video in the center parking lot and the song is about suicide and that was the original song title but the label made them change it to make it radio friendly so they come up with Chop Suey (suey-side) SOAD is dope, their best song (IMO) is BYOB!!!! Y’all should definitely check that one out....it’s so relatable right now cuz it talks about how crooked the president is
You two have great taste, I bet I'd like all the music you do...
Y’all are absolutely great! You should do a lil series of One hit wonders.
Enjoyed the reaction, thx
Spiders!!!!!! My favorite song by them!
Not all of their songs are serious tho. Pogo cracks me the F up every time I hear it!
Another great reaction video
Love it. Love you.
Yall should react to bloopers, from the News or Movies or TV shows...
I miss laughing with yall 😋🤗😅
I always interpreted this song from the Christ perspective on the cross, saying Angel's deserve to die meaning Falling Angels and why did he have to die. The whole Father why have you forsaken me line brings into the questioning of his death over the Angels! Maybe I'm just drunk and thinking to much..hey another beer! Score!!! 😂😂😂🍻🍻
Love this song.
Can you react to Filter "Take a Picture"? Such a great song and the official video is awesome!
Love this Song
Please more KoЯn maybe "got the life" or "Clown"...keep up the great reactions!
Ooooooo yes love S.O.A.D. Hey Half &Jai 😁🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
"I cry when angels deserve to die"
This is in reference to when people die/kill themselves and others brush it off by telling themselves that they deserved what happened to them.
I consider SOAD a top 5 all time band. Toxicity, Ariels, Hypnotize are just a few of their top their songs.
One a my fav bands!
My take on it when they say angels they are talking about good hearted people including children with no say and why do they deserve to die.
He doesn't say why cry, he says I cry and the song is a reference to god and how can he forsaken people he claims to love.
But again that is my take on the song!
Here are the lyrics and I hope this adds more perspective. Enjoy~ :]
I don't think you trust
In... My... Self-righteous suicide
I... Cry... When angels deserve to die
In, my, Self-righteous suicide
I, cry, when angels deserve to die
Father (father)
Father (father)
Father (father)
Father (father)
Father, into your hands I commend my spirit
Father, into your hands
Why have you forsaken me?
In your eyes forsaken me
In your thoughts forsaken me
In your heart forsaken me - Chop Suey
They have heaps of great songs grew up listening to them you should do sugar next
Such a great song.
Definitely check out some more System Of A Down!
Great tune! I echo another commenter. Guns n Roses "It's so easy" is a must.
When Surge sings "When angels deserve to die " they mean fallen angels. S.O.A.D is deep political rock. They are from Armenia. A heavily oppressed Country who was victim to political and religious genocide. VERY DEEP. You should listen to their song "Ariels". Loved your reactions to Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb". I cry almost every time I hear it. Was crying with you. That guitar really speaks to your spirit doesn't it? Love your show ❤
*HELLZ YEAH‼️*
Look for the video of a LITTLE girl (like 5 y.o.) playing along with this song on the drums.
Her name is Eduarda Henklein Baterista.
A lot of people have what the song is about basically true. The song was originally supposed to be called suicide but their label didn’t think it would be good. So they called it that. Also the song is about Jesus in a way and can relate to it. Self-righteous suicide meaning he knew he was sent to die for us. Hints the Bible verses in the song. If you read how they got those lyrics it’s pretty cool.
Try "Empty Walls" from him (Solo Project), it´s one of the best critical songs..
The "him" referenced is the lead singer Serj, his voice is savagely melodic....
He's say "I cry when angels deserve to die"
This is an all around great band from the late 90s. Tech N9ne did a song with vocalist from this band called "Straight Out The Gate" that you guys should definitely check out
Another, A perfect circle-3 libras. Its one of those songs that makes you feel exactly the way you did when you first related to it. I can barely hear it without crying, still.
I saw System of a Down, Slipknot and Rammstein on the Pledge of Allegiance tour back in the day.
makes me glad, I grew up in the 70s, and 80s. Motown, and Rock!!!
I saw them with my kids we had a blast
HAHA! I dont think I've seen Jai so unimpressed!! LOL huge SOAD fan here but I get they are an acquired taste! Great choice guys
An 18 minute ad just popped up I'm going to turn the volume down and let it play 🤣🤣
They are definitely a deep band. Would love for you guys to look up what the songs are about after u listen. It will help you guys respect their craft more. Much love ✌️
The part about “father in to your hands, I commit my spirit” comes from the Bible - Luke 23:46 when Jesus calls out his last words before dying on the cross to God. Interesting tidbit, they were at an impasse with figuring out that part of the song so they went to Rick Rubin’s house - producer of all good things - and he told Serj (lead singer) to grab a book off the shelf and open to a page and read it to come up with his bridge/chorus. He opened to that part of a bible and the rest is history.
Don't feel bad. We all thought the same thing. Even the same year that album came out.
Yes!!! Toxicity is my fave SoaD. 🤘 Good Vibes!
This is a very emotional deep song.
System Of A Down - Aerials & Arto (bonus track)
Hey Half and Jai, Blessings and Good Vibes...Love the groups energy, leads vocals, guitar dude is scary, music is awesome...Thanks for the pass around, lol..."The song is about how when people die, they will be regarded differently depending on the way they pass. Like, if I were to die from a drug overdose, everyone would say I deserved it because I abused drugs, hence the line 'Angels deserve to die.'"There's a lot going on in this song, both musically and lyrically. It touches on drug addiction, but doesn't have the somber tone that many songs about addiction have. The song can also be interpreted to be about how society views death or about Christ. Peace guys
Hey guys💜😁 I found this piece of info about what "Chop Suey" is supposedly about said by the singer in Wikipedia.
😍Ly2💋✌✌✌✌
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chop_Suey!_(song)
In an interview, Daron Malakian explained, "The song is about how we are regarded differently depending on how we pass. Everyone deserves to die. Like, if I were now to die from drug abuse, they might say I deserved it because I abused dangerous drugs. Hence the line, 'I cry when angels deserve to die.
Different, definitely- however- when you write about something emotional…..you get something like this song. Enjoy! ❤️🎼🤘😎
The part about "father" always broke me up. not knowing my father hearing "why have you forsaken me" always destroys me.
About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?").
Yessss! 💕🤘🏻
System of a down was my jam when i was a teenager
Table! Table table table table.....table!
More System of a Down please !
Oh yeah. And if you have any doubt about how good they are, check out ANY of them live😳💓
Hands-down one of the best bands ever!
Yes
about letting your parents down, and never being able to correct it.....since they died before you could either apologize or prove them wrong. As children we always strive to impress our parents. The tradegy comes from being unable to because they passed on too soon. Unanswered praise.
Half you in the dog 🐕 house tonight 😂😂😂
Great choice I love it
We know what the chop suey is going on now
👍❤️👍for Jai beautiful lady 🌺❤️🌷❤️🌹❤️🌸
Let's go down the *System of a Down* rabbit hole *(BYOB)*
Check out "Lonely Day". Great vocals
I've heard of the band and song but this the first time i've listened to it sounds like they drunk a lot of espresso and then just suddenly crashed when they started the course and maybe he's saying the part about the angels cause he feel like it has to be a better life on the other side after you die it has to be more than this but like i said this the first time i've listened to them or this song so i might be wrong🎶🎶
Now we’re talking
To me, talking about self righteous suicide, he's talking about self righteous people who think they're so holier than thou, but then use their religion to hurt others. He says "I cry when angels deserve to die". It hurts his heart when people use their faith to justify evil
FATHER !!!! lol song was a banger
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Spiders" by System of a Down is a great one, check it out! Plenty of other good ones too
