Boone Jenner, sounds a lot like Jonathan Toews situation with Kyle Beach. They maybe captains but they show a lack of leadership in crunch time. If you don’t have give up your phone to the police ( without a search warrant), why do you have to give it up to your boss or in this case your coach?
You're so right, it's basically the same thing. One was a team captain who covered up the serial rape of a young man, widely admitted to be something the entire team knew about. He spent the rest of that season working with the rapist. He allowed the rape victim to be taunted repeatedly for years about said serial rapes. Then he aided and abetted a decade of continuing to cover for this rapist of young men, allowing this rapist freely to enjoy various later authority positions with access to young men, and even to host charity events featuring only young men (and him, the known rapist of young men). One is a team captain who found out on his honeymoon that the coach he'd met once or twice and had never attended a single game or practice with was accused of looking at his exact, personal, individual phone inappropriately. He interrupted his honeymoon precisely long enough to respond that he hadn't personally had his phone looked at inappropriately. The actually affected players may have been people he had literally never met in his life. The entire thing was wrapped up a week later, with summary justice served via social media mob. You're so right, bro. It pretty much sounds exactly the same.
Jarmo (GM) has been the issue for years - this was a non stocker. Davidson is just a yes man. The front office has permeated a culture of just embarrassment. The press conference of Jarmo saying he was comfortable with it only speaks total vapidness of the whole vetting process. As a blue jackets fan, you become numb to the organizational total lack self awareness. Baffles me if you suck at your job, you get to keep it…
Not defending Babs one bit, but this whole debacle seems like a set-up to me only because neither Davidson or Kekkalainen are falling on any swords. I'm also concerned that Boone Jenner is still the Captain of the team (as well as player rep), as he had no initial issues with the photo sharing thing, either. Only the youngest players were negatively affected by this, and once that got out, it was the end for Mike. And I understand that. So where are Davidson and Kekkalainen's resignations? The fact that "no further changes are forthcoming" in Columbus makes me think that they were somehow setting Babcock up for anything. Something untoward happens, the league and the PA investigate, the decision drops to terminate, the league and PA condemn... and the Blue Jackets' front office guys are 'taking responsibility' by NOT tendering their resignations? What nerve! You'd think these guys were politicians holding offices. Something is happening here in the background, I swear it. Again, not defending Babs one bit. Someone else in Columbus has to go, pronto, or this is just going to reek badly all season, IMHO.
I do question their choice but ultimately a person should manage themselves so this should be on Babcock. That being said I would have thought they would have wanted a detailed breakdown of his plan on how he was going to meet and greet and manage his players and a touch point weekly with players and the coach to see how it was going
Boone Jenner was named he was forced to respond. Players had different experiences just like Jarmo did from the unnamed young whose phone Babcock apparently went through for minutes.
I still say one of the reasons he did it was to find out if any of the guys on the team were gay or bi. He's ultra conservative and old school and he was seeking out someone to abuse. ALso, think of the straight young single guys - who have young women sending them photos in private... who did not give consent to show the images to some old coach... Think of wives who miss their husbands and get flrty in private... t's a huge violation of privacy that goes waaaay beyond the NHL. Babcock needs to be run out of the league forever, and the people who hired him need to be held accountable.

Vancouver is unable to afford Petterson's demand of a cup, but habs can make them a contender in a trade! For example we have , M & M Matheson and Mailloux. Reinbacher, Engsfrom, Guhle, Harris, Arbor, Kovacevic, Hudson, Lidstrom, Savard, etc so we can afford to trade off 2 D and Anderson, and a pick and Peterson will have a contender and make Habs a contender as well. @@people3865 It's controversy and that sells. All these journalist hacks need something to talk about before the puck hits the ice officially.
I kinda get the feeling a ton of NHL captains dont talk to anyone on their team off ice.
It’s just a vacant title, no leadership whatsoever.
They do on the good teams.
Agreed, the game, and the players have changed.

'creating (a buzz) at the Maple Leafs alumni golf tournament...' huh, and they say women are catty
Right on Mike!
Thank you, someone finally said that Jenner as a captain should have polled his teammates before making his statement
Jenner would have been better to say he hadn't had a chance to talk to other players yet .

When a player like Boone Jenner is the captain, the captaincy is meaningless.
There’s no sword to fall on. There’s nothing wrong with sharing summer photos to get to know each other better. This man got destroyed over nothing.
Well, let’s see. They hired him. Any other difficult questions?

Because the GM had no issues with this. Neither did Davidson or Jenner. Something's up, here.
