    I cut wire, fish it through the rubber tube using 14 AWG wire and vaseline, and then reconnect with Butt Splice Connectors. it was easy. the Hard part for me was to taking interior panels off to locate Tailgate signal plug behind speaker.

      Tyran Mathurin that’s because this spoofs the system. Not technically safe since its incorrectly reporting the trunks open/close status. So in your app it shows as always closed

    Can you ask mike to repeat your golf ball pushing the emergency button test when he does the power frunk install. This would be an important safety feature to not mess up, particularly if the unit is tricking the car into thinking it's always closed so it can be closed from the display.

  • @Ole-Endurance

    Hmm - looks like the connector thats need to be pulled through the rubber tube should be mounted later (TeslaOffer as changed this already for their version).
    I also would recommend to connect the computer to the non permanent power available on the driver side footwell to avoid vampire drain. In case you do this I would add a second lower level fuse (eg. 15A) close by the computer so that you can easily change this instead of dismounting the footwell area when fuse is blown up.
    BTW thanks for your vids - reselled (private initiative) now 25+ pairs of your front/trunk struts solution in Germany and Austria

      @@i1Tesla 3+ weeks after order, I received the kit today, it does NOT have the improvements that you were told they would make, specifically the wire run thru the trunk lid electrical flex hose. It has all of the connectors on so it would be a bitch to fish thru the flex hose if even possible. I'm an electronics type so I'll be cutting and splicing my wires as needed to install. Also I did get the foot sensor, you must slice its wires into the opener harness yourself, no connectors provided for that part. Just a heads up for others.

It is a bit tedious but better in my opinion that connecting to the battery. Hansshow was pretty responsive to my questions.

    Hi Brian, do you know if the power cable can be hooked up to a switched power source, like spicing into the 12V cig adapter line under the armrest? I'm aware that this would limit the usage of the optional foot sensor, as there wouldn't be always-on power. But I'm not comfortable hooking up anything directly to the 12V battery... Thanks!

      Vripiat Buzoi sorry 😐. No tap. There is a blue wire in the latch harness that is cut. This tricks the car into thinking the trunk is closed. That is why you see the trunk open and then it shows it closed right away. The only thing you are attaching to the car is to the front battery and ground. Works every time so far. I think you will be happy with it

  • @rich1383yt

    Yes, it does open when driving *if you have the footwell sensor*, so I recommend that you *not* get that (not smart enough to sense you are driving - I believe it is the footwell sensor seeing pavement changes it mistakes for foot swipes). Opened 3 times on me while driving, so I removed the fuse for the sensor to disable it.

    • @RajBalwani
      @RajBalwani 5 років тому

      rich1383yt this is what happens when you don’t tap the can. Other companies that tap the can bus does so to keep the safety in tact like not opening when I’m drive. My trunk stays shut shut with foot sensor

    • @RemE14MZ
      @RemE14MZ 4 роки тому

      The foot sensor has a 20cm (8 inch) sensing range, perhaps mounting it further back in the bumper housing, up the rear a bit. This would allow it to point rearward and down (like a 45 degree down pattern if viewed from the side) this is to not sense the ground as easily. I think I'll ask Hansshow about this issue, thanks for the heads up.

    • @RemE14MZ
      @RemE14MZ 4 роки тому

      I have now installed my system, with foot sensor. I asked Hansshow about this and they sent me a video of the testing, the trunk will not open by foot or rear stock button if the car is moving at all. I have been driving mine for a week and the trunk does not open by itself period. The foot sensor needs to see a quick "kick" towards it for about 1/3 of a second to trigger plus it is ignored when the car is moving.

    What enables the trunk closure from the screen? How does it work by itself? I just finished installing the other kit Saturday. Since the hardware is made by the the same company, I have to assume the only difference is the brain unit. I take it the only tap into the can bus id via the trunk light harness?

    • @devoinc1
      @devoinc1 5 років тому

      it's probably just independently alternating between open and close. the app sends the "open" message no matter what, but the unit then interprets it as a "close".

      @Dennis As per the video, this mod tricks the car into thinking the the trunk is closed even when it’s open, so the on-dashboard button is still functioning, allowing it to send a signal to the kit’s controller. Since the controller knows when the trunk is actually open, it will interpret the signal to mean "close" in that circumstance.

    • @i1Tesla
      @i1Tesla  5 років тому

      In the trunk switch there is a blue wire that will tell the computer that the trunk is open. That wire is cut to tell the computer it is closed. If you connect the wire back up the computer will know and display the correct placement of the door and in the app. But you wont be able to close the trunk from the screen.

    • @i1Tesla
      @i1Tesla  5 років тому +1

      It is not possible with the other kits. There is a wire in the switch harness that talks to the computer to let it know it the trunk is open or closed. This one make the car think the trunk is closed so the button will open it.
