I camped a few times in my Model 3 during my road trip last year. It’s definitely a little awkward getting dressed and setting up while you’re trying to stay in the car. I had one of those inflatable mattresses. More work, but uses less trunk space. I’ve not yet camped using Camp Mode, though. Looking forward to that.
My dream car is a Tesla Model 3 with a purple Wrap. I have a prius right now. I cannot wait until I get one! When I get a tesla, i will have a sticker plate saying "Started from the Prius, Now I am here.":)

My first time camping in my Tesla model 3 was good. I’m 5’4. Just me and my dog UNTIL the thunderstorm happened then my 15 year old son joined us lol BUT now I’m going to buy the Actent. The trunk isn’t wide when opened like the model Y so sometimes I would bang my knee but my mattress and sleeping bag was comfortable. I just love having air conditioning while camping ❤

Camped at a chargepoint with adapter at a highway service area on kansas turnpike. Camped at supercharger...late at night in texas. Both during roadtrips. 5ft daughter slept in front passenger, I 6ft slept on sleeping bag in back. Dont have to worry about battery when plugged in. Supercharger was completely empty except for us..I did open an eye everyonce in awhile to make sure no one was waiting. I keep the option of camping in an rv park with access to 14-50 and camp amenities.

I initially thought camp mode was kind of a gimmick (like the fart game) because if you have enough money for a Tesla why would you skimp on a hotel room? Then I remember once driving from San Diego to Las Vegas and feeling dead tired 90 miles before reaching Vegas at 1:00 am, I was forced to check in to a motel. All I needed was a two hour nap before getting to action in Vegas. This case is classic for camp mode
Do you know if the camp mode graphic on the screen is being rendered by the car? I'm sure it's just a video file they threw in there, but it would probably be more resource intensive to render an accurately lit camp fire.

You should get one of those jackery solar powered battery packs that way you can always have the model 3 plugged in and a charges very little on the daytime but at least it works it's going to be even more useful if you have a tent instead of using the car itself because of them the car may not have to be powering anything it can just charge for a couple of days out in the open and then you can use the jackery battery pack other ports to power and run all your other stuff

If I had a 3 then I'd have to either have a tow behind camper or one of those rooftop tents that unfold giving more room.
I recall seeing something better - that I would like better - but don't recall the product name.
I'd possibly find some kind of foam(-like) material to cut to size and just use sheets and covers or sleeping bags - and pillows.
I’m 6’4” and use a Tesmat memory foam mattress in my Model 3. It’s about 3” thick and compresses into a bag that fits under the trunk floor.

Is there an option to not show the camp fire on screen? I'd imagine that would be difficult to sleep with at night.
I was wondering the same thing.
As far as I know, no way to disable. Just have to put a blanket over it, or turn off camp mode and just use the app to set climate when sleeping
@@DirtyTesla Interesting, does camp mode do anything that setting the temp in the app doesn't already do?
@@DDrawer66 it'll stop the car from locking which is convenient. It will also allow music to keep playing as you enter/exit the car closing doors and stuff.
@@DirtyTesla interesting, I would think I would want to be able to lock my doors while camping though. You never know when the crazy guy who lives in the woods will come running up at you in the middle of the night lol. But really, for urban camping, definitely would want my doors locked.
Did you happen to hear anything about sentry mode being busted? I’ve not had sentry mode working since 12.5 the car keeps going into deep sleep even with it on and cabin over heat on :/

Great videos. The mattress is too expensive compared to other options out there. There are inflatable mattress for camping that are just as comfortable and use less space when folded.
Inflatable maybe, but when compared to the other folding mattresses advertised for Teslas the price is actually pretty good.
Normal way is a banana for scale.....here is a dog for scale lol 😂

Heck yeah! Elon said an update should come that allows all controls on the app! I don't know of this would include seats though since they are not on the screen (for the 3 anyway)

Hey!!! How is your M3?? I am up to 21k miles now, and have run into an issue where the car squeaks when running over small bumps, gravel roads and anything that makes the car move up and down. We live on a gravel road, so wondering if the dirt has anything to do with it? Have you run into anything similar?? I’ve got an appt with service next week, will let you know what I find out.

Is it a loud, consistent squeak? I don't have anything like that. I have heard some squeak randomly when going over bumps, but it's super quiet and not consistent so I've always just ignored it. I'll go months without hearing it.
Dirty Tesla it is loud enough to be very noticeable as you are driving for sure. It sounds like you are driving a very old car with rusty springs, and with every up and down movement it squeaks! SOOO ANNOYING!!! I’m also hearing something when I turn the wheels to the left or right - but that might be the steering wheel motors? ANyways, i have an appointment with the service center in Latham, NY on the 30th - will let you know what happens.
I did read where folks had sprayed some silicon lubricant on the springs and / or rubber bushings. I tried that and it didn’t help a bit. Hopefully it is something super easy, and is just greasing up a ball joint somewhere.
Cool example of sitting in the back, but where's the actual camping? You never put the mattress down, slept on it, etc. Maybe a part 2 is in order?
I did put it back near the end, and when I said I was going to take a nap I laid there and watched a show on UA-cam for 30m and fell asleep for a few min :) didn't think a video of me sleeping would be interesting 😂

With the slow charge of 110 volt, will it charge even slowly or decrease the battery with AC on?
At 110v you'll be either charging extremely slowly (like 1mph) or flat/losing charge depending on how hard the ac has to work

I think the Model 3 is a bit small even for average 5'8" tall person. I'd rather camp in a Tesla Model X because of the extra space.

Can you see who is outside? Aside from that I think I would rather car camp in a Toyota Prius. Too bad toyota doesn’t add a camp mode for the Prius like tesla did. And if tesla is aware of the whole car camp lifestyle deal then why in the world did they make a sedan?? Why not a cheap affordable hatchback?? I thought sedans were out and hatchbacks in? No, if you want a hatchback you gotta have the $$$ for that model Y. I still gotta go with a Prius for the best deal. Mid $20,000 sounds good to me. But if tesla came out with a hatchback like the Chevy bolt etc I’m in!
Good luck sleeping in the back of something the size of a Bolt. You’d have to sleep curled up. I’m 6’4” and can sleep in the back of a Model 3. The Y has enough room for two people comfortably.
