I love Mike. He's such a millennial! Making up little songs while he does chores, youtube tutorials, bad financial decisions... He also fully has his wife's back when she's being weird and talking to ghosts, which is sweet. The Coopers are nice.

To an extent I was just thinking how every generation seems to think they started something when they maybe didn't. Like I'm Gen-X and I think we exaggerate our resilience to the point of it being like "our thing." But the rates of male suicide, cocaine addiction, and binge drinking when us Gen-Xers were teens I think kind of weakens that claim. (For reasons debated teenage girls are more suicidal now.) Or how I'll see people act like anxiety disorders are a Gen-Z invention. My grandfather had an anxiety disorder and was born in 1904.

It's funny cause Kitty is one of the least scary ghosts, but her part of haunting Alison out, that "Would you be my friend?" under the covers would just be the scariest experience of all for me personally if I was in Alison's place. Cap singing "I am the very model of a modern major general" wouldn't scare me off. I'd just sing along.

I still find it so impressive how Kiell manages to completely ignore the ghosts in scenes with them in the room with him

    • @lisahenry20

I remember seeing an interview where they brought up Kiell having to ignore the ghosts. I can't remember what the response was but I remember it being funny. I think they did a really good job with the character, it would have been really easy for him to accidentally fade into the background, but he stays relevant even though he isn't the focus of the show's premise.

My favourite bit to this episode was the doctor's office. Such brilliant writing and acting, filmed in such a way we really believed he was the doctor she was seeing. And in a way, his professional expertise and the fact she saw him outside the house allowed her to stand up to the fact that she can now see ghosts and help her just deal with this fact.

I think one of the things that makes this show so special is that the Six Idiots (Ben Willbond [The Captain], Larry Rickard [Robin, the caveman], Mat Baynton [Thomas Thorne, the "poet"], Jim Howick [Pat Butcher, the scoutmaster], Martha Howe-Douglas [Lady Button], and Simon Farnaby [Julian Fawcett, MP]) have worked together for so long (since Horrible Histories S1), and are such good friends. The show was created by them and every very script is written (and collectively workshopped) *by them*. They know their characters SO well and have such a clear sense of where they wanted the story to go. They perfectly balance humor with pathos and real emotional moments. I am so looking forward to you diving into this amazing show!

This show is so special. The american versionis cool but the chemistry between the cast in the original version is just perfect and most brits recognise them from horrible histories which was a staple in our childhoods. This is another great reaction!

Fr with the UK one bc most of the cast have been friends since forever its more believable that they have been trapped in this house for years together

I was pleasantly surprised that the US version wasn't anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. I think you're absolutely right about the chemistry between the UK actors.

Watching this show after watching Taskmaster is such a treat bc you get to see so many contestants again even if it’s a different context. But it was especially funny for me bc I found the show after seeing series 15 of Taskmaster when they had Kiell on lol.

Well done for basically nailing the Gorilla War title.
Solid moments throughout this episode. You sort of caught on about the plague ghosts in that they are played by the same actors as the upstairs ghosts.
Originally the creators wanted to play hundreds of ghosts in the house but that was way to hard to do.
Multi character roles is something the 'idiot six' (the group that wrote and act in the show) are used to, since they were on a kids sketch comedy show Horrible Histories.
Speaking of, there's a good HH song about the plague with Ben Willbond (The Captain) and Katy Wix:

the captain is 100% my favourite character, i love him an unreasonable amount, but tbh i find it rlly hard to dislike any of the ghosts. i adore all of them, in some way; even julian, who may be the one and only tory i will ever feel any love for (as he is not only fictional but also dead) lmao. the day i stop gushing abt how much i love this show is the day i die.

I subscribed as soon as i saw you were reacting to ghosts. Love that you seem to be right in there loving it too, lol.
I adore this show. love the team that made it, and have loved charlotte richie since call the midwife and lockdown, and Kiell smith bynoe, such a funny guy, brilliant on sewing bee, and taskmaster lol amidst all else. I see you know Katie Wicks and yes! she is incredible in this, mary has by far some of the best lines delivered the best way! no spoilers lol but i use some of her phrases in life now and i love it when i can!!!! lolololol.
This is one programme where america has taken it and I have to totally say thank you. The uk one is fantastic, so brilliantly written and played out, full of fun, mayhem and a heap load of pathos.
the american one is on hyper speed. no lingering shots, none of the same delivery, but again, brilliantly done with amazing characters (different and somewhat overlapping ((excluding pete/pat)) in many ways) {i believe the british team are the exec producers on it} but i absolutely LOVE the usa version too. very very funny and again such a brilliant high level of acting and delivery, every single character believable and loveable in their own way.
going to enjoy watching your journey, cheers.
