The proof is in the use, landed a few 40+lb Stripers. Perfect for the angler who doesn't like to use his thumb to guide the line on the reel. My Son is disabled and this is his go to reel. He has a few trophy Stripers on this reel. Spot on Review.
I just bought one today and plan on using it for bottom fishing for Rock fish, sand dabs and sand bass. Plus I want to test it out on some Yellowtail. should be fun.
These reels.may be ok for catfishing but i went through 5 of these in my early years of cobia fishing . If you're going after big game go with a squall or fathom . My fathoms have seen 5 years and still working good
@@HalefuryxXx The clickers wore out extremely fast and button would stay engaged . The bearings didn't last long either. I've had my fathom and squall for 7 or 8 years now and still going strong. If you want a reel that will last don't get a warfare
I used one with 65lb mono for rockfish and tbh I caught 27 fishes with the warfare combo but I was tired at the end of the day everyone on the boat had better reels and they looked like they weren’t breaking a sweat I was struggling to bring fishes up ima keep the combo as a beater or a extra but I need to save money to get something that makes fishing easier every old person on the boat had a SHIMANO tranx 😂
Just bought my first good trolling reel the other day. It is the Penn warfare 30lwlclh. I am RIGHT HANDED but have never reeled with my right hand. My mom is the same. She is LEFT HANDED but has never reeled with her left hand which is perfect since i already have a Shakespeare ats30 which is right hand and I can’t use. I will be pairing it with a LEW’s CARBONFIRE SPEED STICK (cf172mhc) 7’ 2” medium/heavy, fast action rod. It is super lightweight. I’ll be using 4 strand 50lb braid. Any advice?
Nice reel. Considering getting one if I can change the handle / knob. Penn should do something about the OVERSIZED handle. They dont need to be that large.
What is your take on the level wind on the Warfare reel ? Being a tackle shop have you heard complaints ? Seen failures ? Quite a few negative comments on the level wind on Penn's site. Been fishing Abu For 30 plus years. Not impressed with the new reels. Looking at Penn. Thanks, Jerome
I can tell you the warfares are not reliable at all , went through 5 in 2 seasons with cobia . But that's expected because they are an entry level reel , squall will last a long time
Hi J&H. This vid says reel was circa. 2015. Anything comparable in same price point (sub $100), similar construction, feature and function ... but released in 2018, 19, 20. Generally curious what’s come along and “replaced” this incredible value but has also benefited from newer construction, materials, etc. ??? Would you buy this today for your sister, or would you arm her with something else (again, similar cost to value to performance). Thank you. Stay safe, be well.
@@jandhtackle it’s my brother’s reel. He has it paired to a Tsunami Classic Series TSCS703H. He loves the reel, loves the set up. I’ve used it to fish Montauk boats for cod/ling, tog, black sea bass. I’d like to consider a set up of my own for similar fish, off similar platform. Oh, in case it’s important, he has it spooled with 30lb braid over 30lb big game mono. Thank you!
How would this compare to the defiant? Iv owed a few defiants but always had issues. any other level wind reel that you'd recommend? will be used for casting 3oz led targeting bull reds.
My dad isn't a fan of guiding the line on the spool with his thumb. So level wind Is the way to go for him. I myself use the reales reels SG and do very well with it.
Depends on where you’re fishing. If it’s Alaska, then the answer is definitely not. But off the coast, of California, this one will be fine. Set the drag, and let the fish get tired.
@@randomamerican3287 you won't find a cheaper reliable reel for surf, your best bet is like a used diawa sealine or penn squall without the level wind, level winds majorly reduce distance
They all have that problem where the clicker housing wears out and gets stuck on clicker mode, went through 5 in 2 seasons all having that problem . Warfares are entry level and not built.to last like squalls or fathoms
Dylan Clay thanks for responding, I fixed the problem 2 years ago, I had the clicker on I just switched it off, I haven’t had any problems with it since
Hello, I'm just starting slow pitch jigging, so i didnt wanna give lots of money for a reel. I found this one that looked really nice for the price i'd have to pay. Is it compatible? If not, can u suggest one? Thank you buddy :D
Yes i've seen it. But honnestly i still am looking to know what are the specs i should consider on a reel to slow pitch. I think high ratio, high braid capacity, about 6/7 kg (15Lb) are the most important details. Dont u think?
jandhtackle When we fish on the jetties, braid sucks and at least recognize that. Mono will last longer on the rocks than braid. If you have a boat, then braid is great.

Which part was breaking down faster on the warfares. Line spool shaft wear or bearings going out to soon?

They come in handy when you're surf fishing and hook into a big Shark. That big handle comes in handy for leverage.

DONE TESTED, YOU'RE PERFECT
Great information video! Is this decent for small casts 40-50 feet from a pier? I'm thinking of using a level wind for pier fishing.
Thanks for the review. What is the small knob used for, located behind the star drag dial?
Spool tension
For red snapper/grouper gulf party boat, is the 30 warfare enough, or a squall? Thanks!
Squall
Hi J&H, i wasn't sure whether to get this or the penn war30lw for yellowtail, is the 30 better?
This was really helpful thank you by the way I'm on my moms account and I'm a kid but I've been fishing sense I was 3.
Cool.
Nice reel
Would this reel be able to withstand fighting school size Tuna and Yellowtail? Going on a trip soon but don’t want to break the bank. Thanks!
Can u please do a penn defiance review please
can the 20 catch monstor fish the same way as the 30 reel size
you should do the 20n
Hello, I would like to know if you can compare this series with classic level wind 209 or 309? regards!
Would you use this for tope fishing?
How does this compare to the okuma cold water? I'm looking at reel for trolling the great lakes pulling stainless wire or off of riggers.
+PhlyanPan This reel is good for that. Get the line counter version. www.jandh.com/penn-warfare-level-wind-reels.html

Can this reel cast good? I need to sling a 4 oz weight with a shad head as far as the eye can see. Is that possible?
+Panfish Nope. Invest a little more money and get a Penn Squall non-levelwind.
Can you show spinning the handle backwards if you review another size?

Can you do a review on the Penn General Purpose Levelwind?
They are terrible. Don't buy one.
jandhtackle what's wrong with them? I'm just curious, I'm not questioning
Completely outdated. It would be like buying an 8-track player today. Sure it will play music, but it can't compare to digital.
will the 30 none level wind hold up to trolling for King fish dophin ect..

There is no inexpensive reel for what you are doing, but you can use it. You just reel slowly.

Slow pitch jigging is just like high speed jigging but you are reeling in at a slow speed. A high gear ratio would defeat the purpose.
