Very good review. Though i do not share your optimism of them able to fix the game. There is way too much missing from PC1 for me to consider jumping over.
obviously, if it aint broken then dont fix it . but damn, it really looks the same as the 1st game artistically and graphically. remove the ui and put screenshot 1st and 2nd game side by side, can anyone really tell which is a new game after 8 years? also reggie lad hows the performance? i know the 1st one was notorious for its cpu single core reliance. did they at least fix that
@@haniffhussein forgot to add, performance so has been great for me but I also have to add I’m probably not the best barometer! Everyone goes on about how good the game looks compared to PC1 which, whilst yes is absolutely an improvement lighting wise, It is actually somewhat embarrassing when compared to Planet zoo, Not even including the lower quality textures on certain rides compared to the first game. This game would look stunning if they just used Planet zoos graphics
Planet Zoo is my number one builder! Absolutely love it, albeit I’m not very good at it! I was really hoping they would make Jurassic World Evolution the same with dinosaurs but I guess the movie license killed it. I might do a retro review of Planet Zoo at some point.
One thing PC2 seemingly has that I and many others have wanted for a long time, is the ability to create proper darkrides. The new lighting allows you to create buildings, where it actually gets dark inside, even during daytime, while in PC1, you either had to ride at nighttime (and even then it wasn't properly dark inside), or you had to terraform a cave around your ride, which for some reason was the only way to create proper darkness in PC1
As someone who loves the original I already Love this sequel even more. The Ui dosent bother me that much, I don't think the frontier workshop is bad and only connects the whole community of the game together. In my 30 hours of playtime already I haven't really found anything that really bothers or up sets me or makes me feel like we have gone backwards. I cant really think of anything missing and if I can it's pretty much already been addressed and confirmed to be coming in a free update in the future. And I personally think this is the best sequel ever, I don't really know what else you could of done to make it much better other than adding even more content at launch, but that being said I still haven't felt any limitations yet, and compared to the original at this point of its launch its way more than what we had with a good 80 to 90% of the content that was in the original that returned with lots of generally good new things, The New Paths are really good and advanced, I do kinda like how they turn off most collisions by default letting you do what you want. That Lighting is so good especially with global illumination. As for security not being included few things to note, it wasn't in the original at launch, and who knows maybe they plan on updating things with it to make it even better, or likely the case with other things here and there where they didn't think it was that important to have at launch. Frontier have already shown they are being very friendly and are actively listening to the community, and so to finish I cant really find anything to complain about.
I think games like Kerbal space program 2 and city skylines 2 and indeed planet coaster 2 have the problem that as far as sadboxes go the first games pretty much nailed that aspect. Leaving little room for the sequal. And these games really do not lend themselves to a good campaign mode. I think planet zoo was the sequal to planet coaster all along.
Completely agree with you on this one! It could have and SHOULD have been much more than what we have, but yeah, we're four days in and I've clocked up a fair few hours already and can't actually seem to put it down. 😂 I'd be interested to see a re-review in a year's time, say...
I wonder if Planet Coaster 2’s AI truly rewards the creativity and intricate design choices players invest in their parks. The hours dedicated to selecting themes, positioning trees, and crafting unique layouts showcase each player’s skill and creativity. There’s a noticeable difference in the sophistication of each park, and it would be fantastic if the guests’ reactions reflected this. Without that recognition, an essential layer of realism might be lost, and I think the experience would feel less immersive. But rewarding these thoughtful design choices would add a lot to the game’s depth. Actually it's crucial imo
might be worth a buy in a few years after a few DLC's and a bunch of fixes and improvements. right now, this is a hard pass, it just has too much going against it.
The build menus opening with blueprints first is a huge pain in the ***. As someone who uses dozens and dozens of different pieces to build it's nothing but annoying.
I liked the first game quite a lot... think its worth playing the second one if i didn't play the first one enough to really get bored of all the features?
Great question. I play the first one to death… absolutely loved it. I do feel you’ll get a little bored of PC2 quite early on as it doesn’t offer quite the same right now. Graphics are improved but it’s missing some features. Personally I’d wait on a sale… at $25 I’d pull the trigger maybe OR if they fix it up to where it needs to be.
Only trouble I have had is playing so far is at 4k when I get to like max sized park you start to skip a little but is easily fixed by lowering settings a little
It be amazing in a good few months once they roll out the inevitable DLC's - I hope a horror theme is one of the first on the list. There's a solid foundation here, but they need to fix the UI first of all.
Absolutely spot on mate... its not as bad as some other builders of late. There is enough in here for sure, but it certainly feels undercooked in quite a few areas. Appreciate the comment and for being a subscriber all this time! Cheers to you!

@@cockneygamer lol! Btw most importantly, great review good sir! You pretty much convinced me to hold out on this until they give it proper respect so it isn’t so Alpha/half-baked. Unfortunate because I was really looking forward to it So do you recommend Parkitect as a temporary fix for my theme park sim craving? Mostly looking to play some fun campaign and scenarios
@@SirBrosif286 so two suggestions for you! For a theme park fix, similar in style to Rollercoaster Tycoon or Theme Park from the 90’s, then absolutely Parkitect! It’s a charming little game that really tests your build capabilities and has that park management nailed. Black Friday is fast approaching so I’m certain it will go in a Steam sale and well worth adding. Or, as a curve ball but for me is Frontiers best work in the builder genre and one of the best builders money can buy…Planet Zoo. Looks incredible, has the same creativity as Planet Coaster, amazing animations and workshop… but most importantly it has a park management feel too as you not only have guests and donations to grab, but have to look after the animals and welfare. It’s genuinely a superb game.
Purchased / refunded for the same reason you mention at the start of the video. Path placement is extremely frustrating. Shame because theres bones of a great game here. Will be back in a year hopefully patches bring it up to scratch.
The way the guests hit an invisible wall when they drop in the water at the end of a water slide was enough for me to say nah, maybe in one year or two.
For everything it adds, it takes away a feature or scenery items from the previous game. Exactly, one step forward, 2 steps back. It's pathetic and unacceptable. So, it's going to need another year or two to actually reach where the previous game was. Which is ridiculous, I'm so tired of this $hitte. Why wasn't the first game COMPLETELY ported, then built up from there? I just can't grasp why basically ALL the improvements made to PC1 over the years aren't here? I truly don't get why they made their own workshop either. I guess for consoles? But like, that has to be costing money vs Workshop? I can't grasp the electric crap either. Who was even wanting to power their rides? Since when do parks.... generate their own electricity? The most they do is add electrical rooms for launch coasters. No custom supports, billboards or music Transfer tracks only on 2 coaster types Can only add scenery to first train/car of the coaster. Paths are janky as holy hell UI is terrible Replaced Steam Workshop for a Frontier Workshop WAYYYY less scenery themes and items Selling rides as DLC and pre-order bonuses, some even from PC1 Guest cap at 6k, why? No special attention to PC Can't rebind camera controls I could go on, but I just don't get why a strategy/simulation game doesn't have EVERYTHING the previous game had plus all the new additions. I don't get it. Why did we revert to vanilla PC1 THEN add a few things onto it? That's not how this works after a half decade of selling DLC and updates. I'm not lowering my expectations back to a decade ago. Paradox constantly does this as well, and I'm just fed up. Refunded it simply to cost Frontier money and I urge you to do the same. They lose the credit card transaction fee and have to pay a return charge too. Hit em where it hurts. Buy it later when it's out of early access
you remember the first one it was cool fresh blast from the past to some nostalgic vibes an a massive salute to rollercoaster tycoon but the first game was a heavy DLC yeah the game isnt AAA priced but thats how there gonna do it again i reckon my first thought was " we didnt ask for a sequel, did we ?! "
i think people will get use to all the new changes hey mabye frontier is thinking about the ppl that play on the steam deck i dont think the ui is bad at all. What i think is shet is no old themes really nothing from PC1 is in 2 and 2 is really really really focus on aquatic marina theme and pools are cool and all but that's not what the game is call lol. Oh and guess still are mindless and will not go anywhere in your park that doesn't have anything there like RCTY1/2 guess could get lost and you can put signs to prevent guess from going to places.
Yea they c*cked up making this a full release. People would have been less pissed if it had been Early Access instead but I guess they got greedy and launched early before Xmas and Black Friday, now they're reaping the benefits of that poor decision.
I loved the 1 one and hate the second one....lazy frontier....I refunded and play the old game. I`ll wait for the Gold complete Edition in 2-4 Years. :P
Well none od this surprised me. When JWE2 came out I saw how Frontier was starting to follow the same rubbish a lot of other companies had done. Honestly its so dissappointing
Im with you up to the point of the whole blaming console players for the shitty ui.trust me the ui was more than fine in pc1. We dont know who the new ui is for.cause it fucking isnt for us on console. So please stop saying that.ive heard enough of this pc master race elitist bullshit. Enough.we both dont like the ui.noone asked for it to be redone. And enough about the 6000 guest limit.u dont need a million guests.they cap it at 6000 on pc and console not cause one is better but because they know their game will run like shit because ppl dont know how to stop themselves from trying to break the game with million piece barns or 500 piece racks. I get that ppl want no limits but u gotta understand from a realistic point of view. The game isnt meant for u to make a park so big with so many ppl and so many pieces being used to create things that look pretty.at some point the game will freeze or your pc will melt.so having the devs cap ppl imo is great. You dont need more than 6000. Especially not with the amount of pieces ppl use to creste things.tired of this tribal pc vs console bs. Be mad at frontier not us on console cause we dont like the ui either bud.theres more than enough bugs with the game as is no matter the platform this game is working beta.so we all gotta deal with this half baked game.and no i wont blame pc players for something thats frontiers fault.be mad at them leave console players out of it.we are in the same boat.
No hate to console players mate. No one is blaming you at all. But when a game releases both PC and Console at the same time, then the developers will need to address that together as one piece. A lot of reviewers have confirmed how well it works on a controller, that all things considered it’s quite easy to build. My point is the UI has been designed to be broken down into layers when using a controller, vs a mouse that obviously has the flexibility to get into menus quickly and navigate the screen within seconds. As for the 6000 cap, it has to be built to console standards. Again, no one is blaming players for that but it’s just a cold hard fact. The fact is a PC for sure could manage more guests and it would be scalable in the options in how many guests you could simulate/LOD. You can’t release a game on multiple platforms and design it for the highest powered platform, you have to design it around the lowest. As mentioned in the review, I never really found it a problem myself on the guest limits, but I call it out because a lot of people in the Steam forums and Reddit find it too few when building big parks over many many hours. The game (and channel in general) was a PC review so it’s important I call out these things for players. But a lot of what is mentioned is an issue for console players for sure. And definitely not an elitist view… I have a Switch and PS5 and some of the best games of the year are on PS5, but my channel just isn’t catered to console that’s all. Peace my good man.
@cockneygamer thats fair. I didnt really mean you were a elitist. But a majority of complaints i see both on reddit and in videos tend to certainly come off that way.but i also know that theres plenty of games that play awesome on console that suck ass on pc.cause its simply not optimized well for that platform.so im not a believer that all pcs are top notch better.yours might be. But theres plenty of ppl that have pcs that cant play basic ass ps5 games. Ps5 may be a console but the gap between console and pc isnt as far apart as it was maybe 15 20 years ago.but optimization is the issue.especilly when releasing on all platforms.so i agree with u if your going to release a game on all platforms at the same time then theres going to be issues for both platforms. The ui for pc1 was fine. Even when pc players played the "console edition" the menus felt great. Noone complained aside from the pathing being finicky. But thats a gripe for all platforms even if using a mouse and keyboard might be easier. I almost wanted to plug mine in just cause it looks quicker. Lol but theres plenty of ppl who controller feels way more natural than a mouse and keyboard so they might be faster using that. But again i apologize if i maybe came off irritated at you. Im more irritated at the constant "oh its consoles fault or oh they have to dumb shit down for console players " that type of sentence just makes whoever says it sound like they think they are above ppl. Like talking about console players like were 4 years old and couldnt possibly manage the ui without all these uneeded changes.like absolutely not. We can manage fine same as pc. The extra clicks that annoy pc players? Yeah guess what we gotta do extra clicks too. Its annoying as well. So yeah sorry if i got a bit bent by that sentence but god it sounds so damn condescending and pompous narrcisstic in a way. Even tho u obviously dont mean it that way. When all you read from pc players is that type of holier than thou type of sentence i guess well it kinda bothered me a bit.cause i just cant stand that type of person. Just typing the sentence i felt like douche bag i can only imagine how douchey the ppl are who actually talk and think like that. Lol. Excellent review tho mate. You were very fair imo. You pointed out the good the bad and indeed the ugly. Lol sadly it really is like a beta. Im sure in 6 months to a year it will maybe be up to par with pc1.but pc1 has years of polish and fixes and dlcs.so may just take a few years for pc2 to get to that lvl of polish.
@BC-zf7tk well my apologies to you good sir if it came across that way. Do know the style of my reviews can be somewhat exaggerated in my language and views, namely for the banter aspect and mainly because I hate reviewers who sit on the fence! So it might seem that I was having a dig at console players but I can assure you I’m a massive massive console supporter and have owned them all back to the NES days (showing my age). Good example is that Astrobot for me is probably deserving of top 3 games of the year… it just won’t get reviewed on here because I don’t have the set up to record how I want so the channel is exclusively PC for that reason. As you rightly say, this is all on Frontier and the choices they made. And you’re bang on, the gap on PC and Console is so much smaller now. The next gen should be very interesting. And don’t worry mate, when you make a public channel and make videos to put out your own opinion, I can’t possibly expect everyone to agree. In fact I love people coming back with fair rebuttals, so all good. Fingers crossed they can sort the UI out for the both of us…
@cockneygamer oh i can imagine having a channel and sharing any view just leaves u wide open to trolls and argumentative types.i dont envy you lol.but it is super cool when you can have a good discussion on things like the game or platforms or the games future the way we did. Lol and dont feel too old i too had a colecovision then a nes as a kid.been a console guy for life up until this year i got a labtop to do some light pc gaming.mostly simulators that never make it to consoles.so we are prob around the same age. Take care my friend and i wish you nothing but more success for your channel.i know comments help the algorithm so thought id give one last reply.ill hit the like button on the way out as well. Cheers mate! Great talking to you.
It is just a cash grab off the successful Planet Coaster. I was right all along. I'm done with Frontier and it's screw every pound out of you mentality. I will stick with Planter Coaster and the DLC which I invested just over £100 on. Much better game.
Just to remind people: just to remind people that you can't compare this game to PC1 after seven years of updates and DLCs, pc2 is a great game but still need more work and frontier proved themselves for listening to the community
That is utter poppycock. I don't get your logic? Like, what do you mean I can't compare the completed PC1 game to the NEW game? It's absolutely illogical and absurd to revert back to PC1 vanilla from 8 years ago. That's not how this works my dude. Expectations don't work like that. They put that work in, I paid for it, that IS THE NEW STARTING PLACE for a sequel. No one has played vanilla PC1 for... over a half decade. So now we just restart over and redo all the things they've already added into the first game? Nahhhhh, that's unacceptable.

Btw most importantly, great review good sir! You pretty much convinced me to hold out on this until they give it proper respect so it isn’t so Alpha/half-baked. Unfortunate because I was really looking forward to it
So do you recommend Parkitect as a temporary fix for my theme park sim craving?
@@cockneygamer Awesome, thanks for the recommendations!
Once they iron out the countless bugs and re design the ui then i can comfortably say its a great sequel. Right now its borderline unplayable
Bless you Cockney Gamer. I wanted this to be great but I got a refund after I wore through my final nerve. Wish it was a re-skin TBH.
Very fair comment in the Re-skin! Maybe it would have been for the best.
THANK GOD they removed burglars
For fucks sake, Frontier had seven years. Why is every game studio so fucking broken??
No custom supports, billboards or music
Transfer tracks only on 2 coaster types
Can only add scenery to first train/car of the coaster.
Paths are janky as holy hell
UI is terrible
Replaced Steam Workshop for a Frontier Workshop
WAYYYY less scenery themes and items
Selling rides as DLC and pre-order bonuses, some even from PC1
Guest cap at 6k, why?
No special attention to PC
Can't rebind camera controls
I could go on, but I just don't get why a strategy/simulation game doesn't have EVERYTHING the previous game had plus all the new additions.
The original u can adjust salt in fries and ice in drinks etc
you remember the first one it was cool fresh blast from the past to some nostalgic vibes an a massive salute to rollercoaster tycoon but the first game was a heavy DLC yeah the game isnt AAA priced but thats how there gonna do it again i reckon my first thought was " we didnt ask for a sequel, did we ?! "
Excellent review. It's not a worthy sequel at all and I bet you fifty quid there will some DLC released before Christmas.
Appreciate the comment mate, glad the review landed well. And yes, I’m sure there will be!
i think people will get use to all the new changes hey mabye frontier is thinking about the ppl that play on the steam deck i dont think the ui is bad at all.
Xbox player here. The UI is a pain for us too. 😢
Coming from f1 manager, its probably a shit reskin
Well none od this surprised me. When JWE2 came out I saw how Frontier was starting to follow the same rubbish a lot of other companies had done. Honestly its so dissappointing
for me there are too many bugs and things not working properly. I uninstalled the game and wait till they fix it
Im with you up to the point of the whole blaming console players for the shitty ui.trust me the ui was more than fine in pc1.
@@BC-zf7tkand you mate, appreciate it. And don’t be a stranger… feel free to always check in!
Hilarious review
Thank you for the comment, glad the review landed the right tone!
Good review though I'm not sure why you're trying to say about single dads at 12:28
Stop emailing my wife
She’s the one that asked for the D pics, man
It is just a cash grab off the successful Planet Coaster.
@@jonny-b4954it just got released… like chill out dude there’s a lot of work to be done, “utter poppycock 🤓” They added so many things already such as waterslides, switch tracks, rescale, pools, scenery pieces, and other things and everyone is still expecting more, the creators have a life you know
Who cares if Planet Coaster was made 7 years ago with updates/DLC, it’s just an excuse to release unfinished games. I don’t know why people look for excuses to cover up for developers.
I never played PC1 so can't compare. But I'll say PC2 is great!
Everyone blaming us console players for the UI but let me tell you its just as annoying for us too. Was much easier/better in Planet Coaster 1 and Planet Zoo
Looks terrible.. cash grab alert! So cartoony also. Never buying this mobile game! Thx for thé info and saving me 50$
That you called planet coaster a mobile game tells me you’ve never played it and you’re an idiot
