A cousin of mine who was a member of a 60s group told me years ago that he was due to appear on a tv show, and while they were waiting to go on they saw Eartha Kitt sitting on a chair in the waiting room (I think), her hair in rollers, soaking her bunyons in a pale of water. He was a fan, he called her a "trouper", he smiled at the memory; and it took me years to realise how wonderfully surreal that must have looked.
Listening to her sing and watching her perform this song was so emotional for me. It is difficult to believe she is gone. I was just thinking about her a few days ago, and now she is gone. RIP Ms. Kitt. A class act. Talented. No comparison to these new wave "divas" we are always reading about in the news these days. Loved her in Boomerang with Eddie Murphy and Robin Givens! True Renaissance Woman!
I was at her Portland, OR concert as well, my first time seeing her live and I was lucky enough to score 7th row orchestra seats. She is still fantastic, what an exciting and talented performer!
So great, so strong! She already had cancer here. She worked until two months prior to her death. A true inspiration. I will always love you, my "yellow gal"!!!
"I never believed that my youth would be gone" What a woman! I have always loved her voice and thought she was beautiful. She should be in a Paris Night Club during the war years. That's what her voice says. Again, what a woman!
That song talked about her time moving on and all of her friends dying and she nearly started to cry it looked like.... :( i bet that song was very close to her heart because she was nearly 80 here and probably lost a lot of friends and family to old age. She truly is amazing
When I was a young girl, the world was my oyster.I danced till dawn underneath the Paris skies.I waltzed with Picasso on polished terrazo.I stared at strangers with longing in my eyes. One time in Montmartre I drank gin with Sartre! We made love in daylight; we had nothing to hide! But Ernest and Henry and Truman and EzraThere's no one left. They grew older, then they died.Though no one had promised that I'd live forever. I never believed that my youth would be gone. But, Everything changesEvolving and shifting. And moving and driftingAnd time is marching on.Evolving and shiftingAnd moving and drifting. The mirror tells the truth:That my time is marching, time is marching on.The saddest reflection is what I used to be.But everything changes...Even me.
I always admired Miss Eartha Kitt She was so Gorgeous, intelligent , Well Spoken, Spoke Several different Languages,’Bold ,Phonemenal Woman Actress , Performer in everything she did. I just watch Miss Kitt playing in Mission impossible Truly Miss 🙏🏼
I LOVED her in an old time classic movie with Nat King Cole called: "The St.Louis Blues" a true story about the life of W.C. Handy (The Father of the Blues).
Really unbelievable that she was able to sing and perform like this at her her age!!!!!! RIP, Great Soul that you ARE, with undying ADMIRATION AND LOVE,,,,,,,,,,
Many years ago; I was in New York and I had a free evening. I hear about this show and went to try and get a ticket. Only one left and it was in the back, so I turn it down and left. I would try again next week; only the show had closed! A decision, to this very day, I still regret!
rrrrr! Eartha Kitt is always a powerhouse! She can be absolutely, purr-rrr-rrr-fect! A talented singer and a wonderful actress. :) She is fantastic! Long may she reign!
Wow, that was great thanks for taking the time to edit this and post it. Please keep us posted if there is ever a recorded version of this song. Saw her last night in Portland and this was one of the highlights of the evening.
She was and still is AMAZING this performance almost made me cry cause i see how it is kinda speaking about her and it was a two years before she died there will never be another Eartha Kitt in this world no matter how anyone tries
I'm glad that I had the chance to see her in concert in Carnegie Hall last year. What a great performer!!! Your passing does not make me stop admiring your music. May you rest in peace and thank you for being the EARTHA KITT!
"At times your tuffness got you by, But deep within Dolphins made you cry. That which you have kept & stored, Can now be given to Your Lord. For in death you are not defeated, At the Right Hand of God, Eartha...go & be seated". This is an excerpt from my poem "Tribute to Ol' Sweetness" published in 2000. Eartha is quite deserving of such an admiring eloquence. She was a brave & incredible Pioneer, cutting thru barriers so that others may have the ease of following to their dreams. RIP Eartha
Eartha was going to be in a 3rd Disney all YZMA movie! It had her deleted song from the first movie in it. But it was cancelled when her cancer was discovered. It broke her heart but she agreed to have it cancelled, in fear she wouldn't finish it. R.I.P. Eartha Kitt; our time with you was short, but your memory lives on!
I think she also originally cast in Madagascar 2 (when it was called "The Crate Escape") according to IMDB (on the Wayback Machine) Which if she was in the film, she would've died months after the film's release, with Bernie Mac.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I had the pleasure to see her in NYC several years ago and she is sooooo wonderful! And thank you for posting this, I'm living in Europe and wouldn't have been able to see this clip. I ADORE HER!!!!!! THANK YOU!
Wow!!! What a Tigress!! She sing To people Not 'at' people like most singers do. Sho does a lot of 'voice-overs' for many films. Her voice is just so very unique and unmistakeably Eartha. Can't wait to see the little 4'8f nymph again in person :D
I love you with all my heart, thank you for the memories, music and film you left behind which will continue to bring us all so much joy. God Bless you in your new life upstairs... Mark

She was an AMAZING talent. So unique...she is timeless.
She is clothed with strength and dignity,
& she laughs without fear of the future.
