There’s a reason Donald Trump mopped the floor during the 2016 Republican Primaries.
He has the stage presence, the charisma and unlike the rest of the Republican Party, , the ability to appeal to people.
Nobody else in The GOP comes close to that .
How ironic that the thing Trump had to do to get evangelicals on his side -- the Supreme Court appointments he promised, which led to overturning Roe v. Wade -- created the big issue that (hopefully) will keep him out of the White House. For once his voters end up using him rather than he using them. It's poetic.

Evangelical opposition to abortion came about in the late 1970s as a result of cynical political calculations by the movements leadership (which was really interested in overturning civil rights). Might this help explain the shallowness of many Republicans pro-life convictions? That it came about that way doesn''t mean that most pro-lifers nowadays are insincere. But it could have played some role in shaping the nature of some people's values.

This is correct. Republicans control both houses of the AZ Legislature and they blocked a repeal of that 1864 abortion law. Dems were ready to vote FOR that repeal.
Abortion should be a human right. However, late term abortion is horrible and horrific. Miscarriages in the first month are never given a formal funeral. Somewhere between conception and late term is a reasonable compromise.
Trump can be charming, no question. He's a good retail politician. I think Biden is pretty good too, but not as charming.
