      My wife is from the Netherlands. When she was young flying back from there they made an emergency landing in Greenland. It must have been in the 70s if I remember correctly.

    It was similar to when I immigrated from the US to Britain. We had to go to Chicago with all our documents. Since I was marrying a British man I had met in Australia, we had to provide proof that we had met in Australia and photographs to prove we had a real relationship. Luckily we were only a 3 and a half hour drive from Chicago, but it did feel like something out of the movies, having all these questions asked about how and when we met, it was quite surreal.

      @@AlexAmasaOlsen It's like the movies, right? After two years of living in the UK I had another interview to allow me permanent residency. I went around the house memorizing all the littlest things, like what brand toothpaste my husband used, did he put his right shoe on first or his left shoe on? Convinced I was going to be interrogated, it was less invasive than the original application. I mean, the US and the UK are prime targets for people illegally entering, Australia was so much easier! Did you find Australia an easy process?

    Thank you for your informative video. I am from Luxembourg and I have been interested in Greenland for quite a while. The idea of living in a place, where you never experience heat waves, where you get actual winters with lots of snow, where you have nature at your doorstep and where you can live in a small and relatively quiet city with fascinating landscapes that can still offer you everything you need sounds fascinating.
    On top of that, from what I have heard, Greenlanders seem to be very welcoming and I really like how their language (Kalaallisut) sounds.
    I definitely need to visit Greenland, which would include Nuuk and maybe also Qaqortoq.
    As far as job opportunities are concerned, do you know if electrical engineers are in high demand in Greenland, preferably in Nuuk (I am currently studying EE)? I assume that Tusass or Nukissiorfiit would be some interesting candidates.

      Usually citizenship in any nordic country (norway, sweden, iceland and faroe islands) would make living in Greenland easier.

    Hey Alex,
    would you mind getting a little bit into the food situation you're facing in greenland?
    From what I've heard the food is real special and coming from Germany I'm afraid I would starve over in Greenland.
    I'm actually thinking about moving to greenland to become a pilot. It's my dream job and I'm 100% willing to relocate to make that dream come true.
    From what I read so far the biggest challenge would be learning the language but I think I'd be able to pick that up rather quickly.
    My biggest worry really is whether I can stomach the greenlandic cuisine :-D

    • @AlexAmasaOlsen
      @AlexAmasaOlsen  3 роки тому +1

      I can look at the food situation😁 But to be honest in Nuuk you can get almost anything a supermarket would give you elsewhere, so no need to starve.
      Are you already a licensed pilot?

    • @DmdMixZ
      @DmdMixZ 3 роки тому

      @@AlexAmasaOlsen Thanks for your reply!
      Hahaha, alright that's good to hear ^^
      I'm really, really picky when it comes to food!
      I've seen a documentary about the traditional greenlandic cuisine and I was shocked and thought "well.. I'm more of a chicken and nutella guy, how am I going to survive on fish and seal" :-D
      No I'm not a licensed pilot yet.
      I'm 27 and have been self employed ever since I left school so there was no time for that.
      I'm looking to change professions tho because that's my childhood dream and I don't mind moving to any country on this earth as long as I get to fly.
      Air Greenland just so happens to be flying the airplane I love the most (Dash 8) AND has a 2 year apprentice program with a partner school in denmark.
      So the tasks for me would be to become eligible for work in Greenland as well as learning the language.
      I just passed the assessment and simulator test for a well known airline pilot school in Austria so I'm somewhat confident that I could make it :-)
      However none of their partner airlines is flying the Dash 8, so I'm keen on trying to get into the Air Greenland Program.

    • @AlexAmasaOlsen
      @AlexAmasaOlsen  3 роки тому

      @@DmdMixZ Hehe, we do have chicken AND Nutella... I had Chicken yesterday on the barbeque.. Hehe.
      I know quite a lot of pilots up here who actually got fired from their job, flying the Dash 8, as they have quite a lot of pilots for particularly that machine. And the future holds, that Nuuk will get an international airport, meaning the current international airport in Kangerlussuaq, will be flown to less frequently.
      As most of the Dash 8 domestic flights are from Nuuk->Kangerlussuaq, I would say the demnd for Dash 8 might change. Of course, what do I know.. But definitely get a hold of Air Greenland and ask them!
      I also think flying here in Greenland is very beautiful, so definitely check your options. And best of luck!

    No doubt dude… I had a friend here in Denver who went to Greenland. He had to go to San Francisco to apply & do biometrics, wait for approval, then had to fly from Denver to an East Coast city, then all the way to Denmark then backwards to Greenland, and vice versa on his way back to Denver. He liked what he saw, but he wouldn’t go through all that again. I don’t think that’s the kind of tourist economy at Greenland wants.
    I don’t know who’s issue it is, Denmark or Greenland, really matter which one is holding things up, but it’s ludicrous the hoops that everybody else has to jump through while Nordic countries for some unknown reason get preference; sounds somewhat elitist, and or discriminatory to me, but so be it.
    All I know is Greenland is really shooting itself in the foot since America is among, if not the most secure, largest & most capable investor & developer in the world. You gotta make it easier for Americans and Canadians to get into Greenland. Especially since I would imagine Greenland would love American tourist dollars.

      @rule_brittania2142 3 роки тому

      You have to do job searches in your field of work through Greenland employment agencies. You then have to get the job, so you need to have good qualifications and meet a need that cannot be filled by a person already in Greenland. Sometimes you can bypass this rule by being able to prove that you have enough money and experience to start your own business. It isn't easy to immigrate anywhere, most places have specific requirements. Even in Pitcairn, which has a dying population, you still need to meet specific requirements. Svalbard, you have to prove you are able to obtain a home and work. No one wants people who cannot fill a service or need, they want skilled individuals who will help their country/territory to grow and develop.

      As far as I know there is not data science studies here in Greenland. What many people do (myself included) is to study in Denmark and then go back to Greenland.

      Maybe at a cafe or something.. Try to search for cafe in Nuuk. Cafe Pascucci and Cafe Esmeralda are pretty good, maybe try those..
      Tourism is down the drain, maybe it comes back next year😅

    • @xoxo3588
      @xoxo3588 2 роки тому

      😑 An au pair is someone who has experience caring for children, infants, and can do household chores; Usually it's a job given to elderly women who need extra money or want to travel, or women who are looking for careers in child care, like teachers and such. What your asking is very inappropriate and not customary in countries in the west. I'm sure most don't want a foreign grown man around their daughters and this has nothing to do with the country you come from, when there's children involved, this is just considered inappropriate.
