I feel like I'm kind of in the same boat. At this point I've tried most all the popular homage watches, and they just don't do anything for me anymore. I think I'm moving more towards more original designs, whether they're from microbrands or bigger brands.

Well said. I get the value proposition but for “Me” that’s not enough anymore.

San Martin is a little more than just a homage, I agree. 95% of what they do are homages, but a small percentage of what they do is different enough you can say it's a San Martin original.

I’ve almost purchased SN0132-1, SN0118-G, and SN0115-G. I’d be more interested if they had Miyota movement instead. NH fine but prefer Miyota and be willing to pay little more for it.

Exactly the same, i spent the last year and a half picking up paganis, benyars and addiesdives and recently sold them all (incredibly at a profit) I'm now moving into seiko, timex and casios

You'll be doing the same with theses too. Buy a 1k micro brand and a casio and ware them till they fall apart. Then after 10 years buy another one. That way your money will be well spent.
When someone has 10 watch collection, then sells 3 of them to buy 1... he is not downsizing. He's loosing money.
That Serica... new model with a triangle... just buy that one and ware the shit out of it.

@Stanjara I agree. Bought a CW 60 Trident Pro 300 for around $1k. Great watch in my opinion.

Nothing wrong with homage watches. In most cases you get a Seiko movement with sapphire. A milled clasp and solid end link bracelet with great Lume in a few brands. All for $100 bucks. More value than some more expensive name brands. To get a Swiss name watch with all the aforementioned items you have to spend significantly more. If you just want a watch that offers functionality and a solid build then homages are just fine. If you want to have a watch that it’ll retain some value and you want to hand down or sell down the road then yes name brands can be a good investment.

Seiko doesn't even give you milled clasps or sapphire in the $300 range. It's bullsht.

Exactly & all Seiko's sub $500 watches have their case & bracelet made in china anyway ! Why pay the premium 😂😂

I've been in tha camp for a long time now. Alot of guys who were into them are now in the been there done that period. Everything cycles. I've gotten more picky with my purchases

Maybe I'm alone here. When I buy a watch I personally pay for the history of the specific watch or the heritage of the brand. For microbrands is to support a small business and like the unique designs or dials. A homage does not really scratch that itch. Also there's tons of alternatives without going homage. If I'm an addict of Seiko and Citizen I can only imagine what how easy is to fill up a watch box with 600 bucks with AliExpress watches.

History and Heritage definitely important IMO. Helps with value retention as well which is important if you're a chronic flipper like myself.

@@TennesseeMike a lot of people are afraid they are going to be ripped off, I can see that level of trepidation about getting ripped off if it was a piece costing thousands, but all my watches I have purchased for less than $500 dollars.

Hello, If you never got the Steeldive SD1970 for around $60 from the Aliexpress summer sale, then unfortunately ... i don't think you are done with homage watches. This thing is arguably the best watch under $100. :)

Never handled a Steeldive. Definitely have been tempted.

Wait a little longer and you'll realize that it won't scratch any itch nor does it give you a sense of fulfillment. You're just deluding yourself to think that its a better watch just because its cheap butits not going to replace a watch brand that has heritage.

  • @christianmotos
    @christianmotos 2 місяці тому +1

Think about it, you spent a total of (how much) on homage watches. That could've paid for a real watch brand with heritage.

Homage watches, Ali Express watches, I just have too much self respect to waste another nickel on them.
