Man, there really is no high in DS 3 quite like the high of invading with another player, and having that player play to you, and you to him or her. I really, really enjoy that.
Small wonders caster invaders are all shit, all of their competence seems to have been funneled into one person. Ludwig - a glimpse into a reality that could be. A reality where casters on the invader team are a bigger danger to the gankers than they are to their teammates. Where they harass the host like the gank squad mage harasses the invader, firing magic pew-pews from a distance. A reality where they don't cast Affinity when they are standing directly next to you. A reality that could be. But isn't.
And then there's the casters who try to not hit others, and yet there are dumb people running at the player I'm attacking and getting hit. Some people are not too brilliant, as I can't stop a fireball I already threw. >_>
I don't think it's specific "caster" class problem, it just DS3 in general, on the wave of popularity of DS series in the game brought many players, who used to another style of play"brain off"
its not a team-game. never was, at least for invaders. if you want to decimate your "bad" experience (or "freedom to do what you want") try out the aldrich faithful covenant f.e.. of course a mere covenant cant guarantee a certain intellect and you cant take any measures for guys on your team, that are annoying you, but your point is about a team-feeling and a tactical/rational way of handling things so that is a tiny bit closer to that. or just play arena. even with friends, if you can.
Well, part of the problem is that unfortunately it's REALLY hard to solo as a mage as an invader in general. Due to the way that the invasion mechanic works in DS3, invaders are usually running into groups of players instead of individuals and this is really tough for a mage since usually they have low HP due to the need to pump points into INT in order to actually achieve real damage into their spells. With low HP and most attacks having longer cast times, a wizard can be torn up incredibly fast by a lot of R1 spamming noobs and certainly any halfway competent UGS user (where they probably only have to get in one combo to dispatch them). To invade you're far better off having high VIG, high END and one focused attack stat usually, but survivability and toughness is probably the most important element and that's something most wizards don't have. So in a way, you're only going to run into two types of Invader mages: people who are trying it out, suck at it, and will almost certainly respec to something tankier and less wizardly. Or Ludwigs - people who learn to solo a team of 2 to 3 gankers with intermittent blue police support that are capable of smart team play because honestly that keeps pressure off of them and it makes everyone's job easier. You'll see a lot more of the former rather than the latter, but when you do, they'll be something any ganker should be VERY concerned about.

Ludwig is a champ and had the good common sense not to use Crystal Soul Spear, which has been the cause of my death pretty much every single time I've had a fellow red who was a sorcerer.
You know Miyazaki is a big fan of table top when you look at how wizards work best in ds3; you gotta dedicate your build, and you play best as support to melee. Ludwig attuned the spells he did for this purpose with a little bit of melee spells on the side. What a legend.
Fuck DS3. Fuck invasions. Fuck the amazing FFIX soundtrack. Can we please acknowledge that "the last time somebody took this many projectiles from this many men it was a video on Brazzers" line? I'm fucking dying. That was great.

3:00 Most of my invasions as a sorcerer are quite profitable for my teammates. I make sure my allies are to the side of my target instead of behind or in front of them. If my teammate moves in the path of my spell I'll change direction whenever possible to avoid hitting them. Usually a fellow red or whatever color will stun the host just long enough for my crystal soul spear to finish them off or vice versa. (And no, that's not the only spell I use) Only reckless casters are truly a liability. A careful and considerate caster is your friend. Hell, if the reds are constantly in the way of the host, I'll just take potshots with my longsword or Farron Dart.
You should try out Splintering Bolts with the Avelyn, they usually don't hit too hard but they hit far more consistently for a little damage than lightning bolts or heavy bolts, but it's really just personal preference. Nice video by the way, good mages are as rare as unicorns in this game
I always forget those exist. I hate getting hit with them as they create frame stutters on PS4. It's awful. And indeed, a good mage team mate invader is hard to find. Probably more difficult to ride than unicorn too.

Yeah, this felt a little more light hearted and as a result I had a lot of fun making it. I was still riding the high of that invasion when I started working on the video, I knew what music I was going to use immediately, so that carefree kind of spirit was with me the whole time I was narrating and as a result I think it feels "happier" than my regular videos.

Cleric- Unflattering Prayer (sunlight spear, lightning stake) or roll catch you with lightning arrow thing.
fantastic. back in the bloodshade heyday you used to occasionally get this kind of thing. there was this other bloodshade jace (i was also bloodshade jace), and whenever we both ended up in the same world, we devastated. its awesome when you can really click with another invader and pull out a tough victory

On the note of that Drakeblood parry spamming host, I've found that it's fantastic to punish parry spammers by simply delaying R1, at least with the Mace. R1, R1, literally wait no time at all, just don't immediately press it, and then the third R1 hits, and you get a 4th with the stamina for it. It's fantastic to scare them with such a simple lil trick.

Its finally been answered, well, sort of. I've done what I can to reconstruct his build based on what I can see in the video. It's not possible to make a perfect duplicate without knowing the sl, what in his back pocket (surely he has at least 1 weapon that doesn't rely on focus), and the ring selection but I think I've made some fair estimations based on what can see. I know his cast speed is quick, so I would assume he has Sage Ring, roughly 1100 hp based on the hit he took at 5:17, I know at least 4 of his spells, he appears to not be fast rolling, and I can guess most of his armor (I can't really tell what the leggings/gauntlets are, but I can make assumptions). Based on Saint's build it appears to be in the sl120 range, but my guesses can only go so far. I believe this (soulsplanner.com/darksouls3/68924) is a step in the right direction, I've made what assumptions I can and filled in the gaps where possible. It's as close as I can get without looking directly at his stats and there's still some room to play around with it and make your own guesses/tweeks. Hope it was worth the wait.
Wizard god indeed! I’m writing this down, cause I need this stuff for tips on my Sorcerer. I might just switch Soul spear out for heavy soul arrow just so it isn’t piercing and has a chance to harm my fellow invader! I already tend to try and cast spell for means of harassment or finishing off, and I keep Soul Greatsword in my slots for a special twist attack which is good for roll catching and hitting multiple opponents.
9:30 the one time he hits you with a spell wasn't even any fault of you two, it was the host being able to juke through yous and misdirect the spell, probably not even on purpose.
