Italy was my introduction to NATO jets, and now I'll experience some Soviet models too. Then, like Italy, they finally come into their own as a unique powerhouse.

Can't wait to unlock this thing. It's honestly weird, though, that Gaijin choose the F rather than the less-advance H variant (PLAAF designation is based on chronological order. F started developed before G and H variant, despite the end result of the F being more advance version than the other two.) when they do not add FOX-3 capability into the game yet. The H have the capability to equip PL-11 semi-active radar missile (Indeed, it's the only PLAAF jet that use PL-11 as primary BVR weapon), while the F do not (or at least they're no evident that it can). Indeed, the whole reason F existed is centered around its FOX 3 capability. Adding the F into WT right now mean it's limited to FOX-2 fight, which isn't deal breaker, but annoying, but if they added the H variant, it would still have the benefit of having access to FOX-1 missiles, which would fit top-tier fight a bit better, in my opinion.
@@rickdubbink More advanced Fox 3s may or may not be coming this year. I’d say it’s almost certain we’ll have them some time next year though it’s possible they’re coming this year especially if they stick to adding the Gripen before End of year.
To play this jet you have to use shark tactics (going up and coming down from below) if you want to have fun go dogfight other other Jets which is pretty scary
Regarding the supersonic cone thing, since they updated it, it seems to only appear client-side to the player's plane and won't show up on any other plane, I don't know if it's a bug or not.. But what that mean is as of right now it won't give you away
Every plane in WT able to super cruise gets a bonus point but everyone not giving the point to the mig23 family that’s not only one of the fastest but also a very easy to super cruise planes
Great coverage about the J-8. Why does the design feel like the Chinese designers were struggling to create a MiG-23 and F-4 look alike (ironic because MiG-23 was inspired from the F-4) but settled with the design elements of a MiG-21?
They could have copied the mig23 but decided to instead incorporate the nose and intake elements from the 23 and leave fuselage mostly the same. Probably less work and adequate performance for an interceptor
Fkn hell they’re putting in all these 40g IR missiles yet the only competitive Western version would be the 9X and they can’t do that because it’s such a modern missile they would have to include modern U.S jets. The F-16 block 50 and F/A-18 are the only options for the 9X Anyway… I have a very very strong feeling that the F-15A and the F/A-18 are coming soon. Like by the end of the year or beginning of next year. We’ll see…
Can't champion the PL-8/Python 3's enough - especially valuable is unlike most other IR missiles, they have the continuous pull and energy to actually do proper off-bore shots on maneuvering targets. Can really sneak up on people.
I’m so bad about dumping all my speed in delta wings while looking around. Really wish there was a button you could press to limit the instructor to only pulling a certain amount of Gs so I could pull U turns without spamming W to keep my energy.
Because it dumps speed using massive AoA. The 104 doesn’t have ANY AoA basically, so it keeps going fast, but can’t dump speed like the J8 to turn. 104 also has a elevated tail section, where J8 has a centerline tail section. If the 104 could have massive AoA, it would block airflow to the tail.
irl J-7E never had the capabilities to carry PL-8 due to the increased weight of the missile compared to PL-5, though there's a better variant namingly the J-7G or so which has all the bell and whistles you would want on a nimble fighters with HMD sight for PL-8 and a proper PD radar
@@shikikanaz4624 There are actually all aspect variant PL-5EII, basically functionally equivalent to AIM-9M, but apart from the export variant mainly on board JF-17Blk I/II, there's not solid proof that they still use it on their domestic J-7 airframe. Especially all those remaining J7 airframe are set to retire in very soonish future
it helps the missile *tracks faster* to that target. and honestly to me always radar-locking ur enemy is a great practice when u use radar missiles later on, and radar missiles in this game rules.
It also helps because (especially with large fov IR missiles) it’s very easy for the missile to accidentally lock someone else which can be a hassle because then you have to drop the lock and relock the intended target
I am usualy not one to backseat game, but seeing you lock everything on radar on a jet that doesn't have radar missiles even though (in the video) it obviously makes it harder for you to lock enemys is actively painfull. The one big advantage IR missiles have is not giving a RWR warning when launched. I don't know why you would handycap yourself.
Despite the visual similarity, this isn't a copy of the Su-15. The original J-8 was kindof an amalgamation of design elements from half a dozen other aircraft, and it evolved from there.

to add to the pl-5B, it seems to love to ignore flares and just outright target jets. Its super durpy but quite good fun on the J-8B and the J-7E etc

you can burn up to 1.4 1.5 mach and ride it out in 100% and it looses speed very very slowly and will kinda ride mach 1.3 very odd
So what about SARH AAMs? Has a good radar, but for what?

I went into a little more detail about the development of the J-8 generally in my review of the J-8B
They could have copied the mig23 but decided to instead incorporate the nose and intake elements from the 23 and leave fuselage mostly the same. Probably less work and adequate performance for an interceptor
I don't really like the looks of the fishbed and strapping two of them onto themselves doesn't really help it, but the cockpit is nice I guess
