  • This is a successful attempt to repair an Integra DTR-40.3 experiencing a notorious problem on 2011-2013 models of Íntegras and Onkyos where you lose audio and network control. No special tools required, took me less than 1 hour.

    Repair Tech here..
    Integra stuff is very good I own a DTR R1.1 myself and it has operated flawlessly without issues and I bought it refurbished too. Integra decided to forgo using heat sinks on the chips to save money. They knew about this problem from the drawing board and it ended up costing them even more money. Be sure and put a Heat Sink on that chip and check all the other chips with a thermometer so it won't happen again and make sure you have enough forced air cooling in your rack and you won't have these problems. I'm glad you were able to solve the problem. No need to bake your board next time.👩‍🍳

    You are pointing at the wrong chip. The chip you point at doesn't even need a reflow solder as it has exposed pins. The problem is the the smaller chip above it which uses a ball grid array soldering, which requires reflow since the contacts are under it.

    • @muchomorelektron6599
      @muchomorelektron6599 10 місяців тому

      It requires replacement with newer revision without factory flaw, not idiotic reflowing which fix for few weeks. More idiots read and watch that kind of idiotic repair methods and then after few reflows boards is garbage and AV also because boards are not available. Stop destroing good AV you F MORONS!!!

    The DSP chip on onkyo receivers over heats and desolders it's self from the hdmi board. Best way to fix this is to use a heat gun get the solder to remelt. After the fix is done you will need to attach a heat sink to the Dsp chip to prevent it from over heating and aslo get a cooling fan...

    It's so unfortunate about some of the integra models because they are wonderful units. What's really crazy is that their support service seems to have disappeared when they started having the hdmi issues.

  • @zeeebrenn

    The chip you pointed to was most likely not the problem, but rather the BGA chip behind it. QFP chips dont desolder themselves. Secondly, you have absolutely zero clearance above the receiver in your rack, leaving little for heat to escape, heatsink or not. Hence, this will likely happen again...

    • @djfredmiami
      @djfredmiami  4 роки тому +1

      You are right, it's the BGA chip. But i do have 1U clearance in top of each receiver and rack fans circulating air. This problem will happen regardless of rackmount, it's a series defect unfortunately

    Hi DJ, You need to put a heat sink on top of the DTS Chip. You can buy them on Amazon and probably Ebay. Some of them come with the adhesive on the back of them. Look on the Onkyo fix for no sound here on UA-cam and they show you which chip it is. It's on the right side as you eere looking at it and l think it says DTS on the top of it, l think it only small msybe 5/8" square with a gold piece in the upper left corner. If you dont put a heat sink on it, it will just keep happening.

    • @needsmoreclipping
      @needsmoreclipping 3 роки тому

      Wroooooooooong. It has been shown in other videos that using a heat sink on top of the DTS chip does not help. I mean, why would it when warming it up is actually what makes it work again? Keep it cooler does not help. At all.

    • @fadyalam6712
      @fadyalam6712 3 роки тому +1

      @@needsmoreclipping sorry mate, you are very wrong. The chip gets hot, not enough to melt the solder but after time, the solder dries and cracks, reflowing remelts the solder completely and fixes the crack joints. Keeping it cooler helps keep the solder in good condition and prevents further cracking.

    worked for me on onkyo tx-nr616. fails while stuck at home because of covid, of course....
    symptoms: no sound input, no network, can hear relays but not in the right timing... heating the dsp chip with hair dryer allow the receiver to startup correctly.
    added heat sink years ago, and two 12cm low speed computer fans extracting on top of case. the chip never really overheated, most of the time 30°, not more than 40 maybe 50°c max, but it fails anyway.
    simply putted the board 9' in pre heated oven at 180°c. not more not less.

The funny thing is that my blu-ray connects to the receiver normally. Only tvs get mute.
