Chase Through Manhattan: where danger knows no bounds

“Chase Through Manhattan” is music by Richard Niles - a soundtrack to a noir thriller full of crime, passion, sex, and unpaid royalties. New York has been ravaged by a killer who steals people’s clothes so often, it is known as the Naked City! Police Commissioner Niles, a hard-bitten cop from the sun-baked Sodom of Hollywood, takes on the case with nothing but a working copy of Sibelius and a couple of crazy detectives. Dennis Karmazyn, armed with a cello that has played on 4000 film scores, hits the streets with his trigger-happy British partner. Clive Dunstall laughs contemptuously at the avalanche of notes Commissioner Niles throws at his smoking piano. “Ha, ha,” he snorts. “You set ‘em up, and I’ll knock ‘em down!”
The thrilling ending spells tears before bedtime for the crooks, and a fat invoice for the Commisssioner. Niles looks into camera, without blinking, inhales another espresso and grunts, “When you start chasing evil, you get TOLD - told to shove it by wise guys in limos and frails with gold records on their bathroom walls. Sure, there are gonna be more grifters with gold shoes, and more jazz babes willing to take their cash. To hell with the consequences, I’m going through with this - not just because it’s my job. Y’ see, a while ago, I made a promise to a goofy kid with nothing but a Washburn guitar and a dream”.
When it was over, Niles said a long goodbye and never heard from anyone again, except the critics. No way has yet been invented to say goodbye to them.
