What is it REALLY Like to Be Married to an Indian Man? 3 Foreigners Share | Ep. 72 | Invisible India

- Hearing others' perspectives always brings out new perspectives. I interviewed two other women who are married to Indians who bring various cultural and linguistic background to their stories. Sheida is from Iran living in Canada. Parneet is French, living in Belgium.
I asked the various questions to bring out these women's thoughts and experiences:
1) Things you enjoy about being married to an Indian
2) Your favorite thing about Indian culture
3) One challenge of being cross culturally married.
Hear their thoughts, opinions and be exposed to different cultural perspectives.
Find Parneet @paris_punjabexpress and Sheida on Instagram.

I'm also married to a Indian man. We have been married nearly 18 years. I love Indian food, particular Channa Masala. I am totally accepted and feel loved by his family.
thats so wonderful. i'm so glad you found this channel. My full audio episodes can be found on apple podcasts, spotify, google, wherever podcasts are found!
Lucky, many aren’t aloud to marry outside their caste let alone their culture, plus normally they’ll get forced to get married by arranged marriage by 35.
If you end up falling in love and their family won’t accept you, you’re in for a lot of heartbreak 💔
I've just come across your podcast and really enjoy it - thank you! My husband is half Indian (South Indian & French) but presents very Indian. I was raised in an Indian ashram in the US Midwest, where I learned Sanskrit at school, yoga and meditation and was more. After 30 years of marriage and 3 kids (who grew up going to temple etc) we're unpacking and reinventing the aspects of the culture that most resonate with us. It's wonderful exploring this with other TCK's and multi-cultural families. Much love from Iowa!
Dear Jessica Ji, it's really Gud to know that U r in India for long back 16 years, and married to Abhishek ji 12 years ago. When two different cultures understand, respect and meet together, then life is just like Immortal nectar....
Thank you for the compliment.
@@IndiaWithJessica Ma'am do you do Chhath pooja.
Your indianess is greatly appreciated 🙏
Thank you for your honesty Jessica. I love you and respect for your honesty.

I agree with most of it what you say 😂 indian culture families like to be involved with things happening with the family members at the same time my parents gave me n my sister the freedom to choose education/ profession/ partners though the last one wasn’t as easy as I said here. These days parents are more open to choose your own partner/ moving abroad for education/jobs.
Haha last segment, beta beti nahi le jate hain. 😂 you are just spot on about it .
yep. my mother in law is the best!
I never knew you were married to a Bihari. As a Bihari, I have mixed feelings. I always imagine foreigners finding it difficult to adjust to the backwardness of bihar in particular and india in general. I am not concerned about cleanliness or etc. But in general the Indian people arent mature enough to adjust with different skin colors. Hope you stay beautiful and happy eternally. And I hope you find India as a pleasant surprise everyday.
keep watching. :)
Suggestion ask them to first give a good introduction background , show the couple's photo, years of marriage, and kids, and how they met, what they do for a living? then p
Proud be indian boy ❤❤
I AM MARRIED TO A INDIAN HUSBAND FROM KENYA. I AM A PONIA/NAGI TRAINED WIFE.
awesome
Yeah a lot of pressure on studies skewed to just textbooks and no other activities as such(New curriculum passed recently).Still French person talking about child's mental health 😅 -eventhough they have a good education system
ya
Indian man will always respect you as a spouse. This is a relationship of 7 lives, not of 7 years only(US statistics of average marriage). So girls date India. Indian parents are very open minded like west. If son or daughter decides to marry person from different culture they will advise you pro and con; advise you to adjust; advise you to learn language and custom of your would be spouse. Hey, at end of the day, we all behave the same way.
Most Indian parents won’t allow them to marry outside their culture at all???
The Indian man I know his parents won’t budge, only want him to marry in his caste so 🤷🏻♀️
Not at all
Indian like equally foreigner
We believe in " Vasudevam kutumbakam"@@shellpen7326
@@shellpen7326 It’s true that many Indian parents prefer their children to marry within their culture and caste, as it helps maintain traditions and values they hold dear. They often believe that this ensures a shared understanding of customs and expectations. Additionally, some parents may worry that a non-Indian partner could feel overwhelmed by the complexities of Indian culture, leading to potential conflicts or misunderstandings. It's all about wanting to protect their children and ensure a harmonious family life, even if it may seem restrictive to others.
I would like to know your story of dating an Indian guy.
@@Pain-zd5uo No, it's not just doing marriage within caste. But also there is " honour killings " just gur marrying other caste person.

जेसिका जी आपका बहुत-बहुत धन्यवाद
Welcome
What I am curious about it is: are they obligated to go on with the arranged marriage? It is okay to call it off before the wedding? What are the grounds to cancel it before it happens?
who do you mean by "they?" Indian people in general or foreigners married to Indians?
Indians in general. They have to carry on with the arrangements their families do or they can get away from that without scandal? @@IndiaWithJessica
@@ach4049 Um ..Indian here , um In arranged marriages partner is chosen by parents and my parents are also a product of it . Well ultimately your parents search for partner but they search until you pick one . They kinda keep providing u with options until u pick . Hope it answers your question
What are the expectations of your family/inlaws?

Jessica your accent is the most American accent I’ve heard
Any girl wants to get married... Indian men available here...😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
good to know, but still indian women are the first choice for most indian men who would have settled in say west.
Lol who told you that?
Yeah but ,glad to see Indian men are changing their preference now a days . Foreign women are better in every possible way .
@@coffin789-if9pl It's true that many indian men are still prefer Indian women even though many better options available . But its changing though , including me I was so patriotic few years back , But now i'm dating a slavic gurl . Never been this happy with a Indian girl . I hope indian men start dating foreigners .
Jessica do you have an Indian citizenship? If yes, was it difficult to procure one? How easy/difficult is it for a white American national with no Indian national to get an Indian citizenship? Also tell us, have you ever faced active or passive racism in India?
I talk about the racism in India on Episode 9 "Being White in India" - feel free to check that one out.
The other stuff, I don't feel comfortable commenting on in in public forum. ;)
@@IndiaWithJessica I listened to the entire podcast…thanks for sharing…I could understand it from a foreigner’s perspective …that was very informative…thank you

You know it's very hard to leave your home country and settle in some other country. As of now you live in India but do u ever feel like returning to the USA with your husband when u both grow older or when your children start earning their livelihood?
If I were in your place I would surely want to return to my home country. Just saying.
its possible. lets see what happens.
@@IndiaWithJessicaDear Jessica ji, isn’t it more likely you’ll have a better family support system in your old age, particularly from your children? Just wondering 🙏😊

And i think every south asian should marry foreigner girl..
Girls are interested come to india we are willing to get married..atleast we are educated clean from any kind of addiction.
Yesss💖
Sometimes i feel arab people are the best atleast they care their women..and their pride
So atleast white people are not great they are like a average indians.
There is a difference between care and dictatorship Mr. Austin, you won't get it about my India. We care/respect our women.
This women do not show that in india, woman can not easily marry as per her choice. She even got killed for doing Intercaste marriage, thats called honor killings. This American woman could easily marry out of her religion, but in India woman can't marry out of caste within same religion.
3-4 crore female foeticide happened in India, still happening.
This American woman is getting all the views for her white skin, because indian loves it.
Arab people do NOT respect women at all!!!Unlike what you said they are so misoginistic! They only love respect their own women NOT foreign women!
