Love Craig just teleporting in to drop some straight facts
Sam Collins, from my point totally rules F1 tech journalism. Total refreshment on the F1 scene. A very likable TV presenter with a distinctive hair style to. I didn’t know this interesting detail why the back opening is sometimes asymmetrical.
Fully agree. We have not seen this level of technical detail so condensed and presented so well before.
@@TheGabe92 Miata as a profile picture? _I see you're a Man of Culture as well.jpg_ ; ) ...
Yes, these series are awesome
It is technical and displays to the average person too. 👍
Sam Collins has been a great addition to the F1 team, I always enjoy his analysis.

TV Tech Talk is just the best. Sam is great as always. Explaining design choices and engineering solutions used by the teams is what makes Formula 1 so special!
Thank you for using the word “exacerbated” in a video
Lol
Is exacerbated not a common word?
It's manipulated.....
@@marktaylor865 It is. Dunno what people have been smoking
I don't think people should exacerbate in public, but maybe that's just me

Sam is goated
"It is quite interesting to take a look inside those holes."👀
Wep... take easy there, this is a tech talk.
It's actually fascinating to see teams change the body work for each rounds but sadly for next year not so much.
It will happen next year bud
Teams always find loopholes with the regulations and FIA accepts or rejects some of them. So we will be seeing some updates to the bodywork on specific circuits.
Alpine's approach seems to be best performance for quali then dial it back when overheating in the race and become a moving chicane as overtaking isn't great in Hungary
Is That Even allowed? Normally the only bodywork that isnt fixed after quali is the front wing height.
Ummmm... Parc Fermée?

Alpine will be fine, that huge air intake above the pilots head must be enough to cool everything + even more 😂🤦♂️
Not with Ocon's head filling it 😂
Do they have a bigger intake than others? I can't see any difference.

Leaving the opening small and opening the rear creates low pressure which provides even further cooling effect from the temperature drop of the low pressure air

nice IWC big pilot :)
Excellent presentation, thanks
Sticky uppy bits!
Cool video. I'm sure if they made everything symmetrical that there would be a lot more weight due to hoses from side to side. Things like that.
Love these talks
1:07 I see what you did there
Red Bull for instance instead of the cooling system prefers crashguards to prevents merc & HAM strategies.
Do you think the drivers notice the asymmetric back end when they drive around

I like how Sam accidentally said Renault until he realized that team is rebranded, so he said Renault-powered Alpine.

Strange that nobody mentioned the Meredith effect...
If the yield is about 40%, at 1000 hp, you have to dissipate about 1 MW of thermal losses?
its above 50%....but the batteries arent happy at high temps, so you need more cooling for them than you would for a engine, and as they operate at a lower temp they dont cool as effiecently (less temperature difference)
@@specialingu Ok but I would like to hear or read more numbers about each component and need.
@@dDoOyYoOuUtTuUbBeE Sam used too write in or be editor for race car engineering magazine, think he still is maybe something there
Idle curiosity:
All the cooling is basically passive. I would imagine 'cooling' could also be improved by using fans rather than opening bodywork, indeed the speed of a fan can be varied in response to requirements. I imagine a 'fan' inside the bodywork would be hard to rule as an aero device.
Why not? Is this something to do with Brabham?
its not allowed. for demo runs they fit fans though :)

If the bodywork is unsymmetrical, would it cause imbalance in the aerodynamics performance?

@@MrAvaneita they said it didnt effect anything.... but my gut says probably would at low speed or when static, when moving the extra heat probably gets transfered to the air so makes little difference
