The Leftovers and The Americans are both phenomenal shows and it kills me that more people watch them. They're both very well written, very well acted, well directed, etc. I freaking love Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, they are fantastic together. And the leftovers is so damned thought provoking, deep, and mysterious. I've been saying for a while that the Americans is the most criminally underrated show on TV. It kills me that no one I know watches it
I think leftovers is to disturbing and unfunny and unetertaining for most people, i personally hate the show for this.

Migalors Darwin sadly can’t agree. I love how much the show has despair and lost there is in life because it makes aspects of living more precious and meaningful. We need to suffer to truly live and this show displays that beautifully. It shows all sides of life in an accurate way ( minus the fictional premise)
The Americans really is fantastic. It is one of the best shows ever created. The fact that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves bothers me aswell. At least some critics love it, but the show deserves more recognition from the TV Academy. Plus Keri and Matthew should be winning every year, but they don't even nominate them each year as they should.

I agree, The Expanse is amazing from visuals to story. And it feels new which is hard to pull off with a genre that is so popular.

Johnny Z It got mixed reviews in its first season from critics and a lot them didn't return. At least Dexter kept critics watching long into its terrible later seasons.

When I first say the title of the video, the first TV show I thought of was "The Leftovers" and was pleasantly surprised to see it at number one.
The Leftovers is the most underrated show EVER. Fantastic acting, directing, production, screenwriting, hell- even the soundtrack is great!

There´s a good bunch of British (the best), French, Italian,.. series, but USA usually forget there are life out its frontiers.
Elena Diego Marcote Actually brand Pitt, snoop dogg and Ron Howard love the show. It's apparently very popular in America, even Cillian Murphy has said “It’s fantastic that Peaky Blinders is globally recognised and somehow has universal appeal.”

I watched all five seasons of Ray Donovan in the last few days. Season five is so heartbreaking
Rectify is one of the most emotionally evocative shows I've ever seen, and it's criminally underrated. More than any of these shows. The difference is it doesn't have any big names to attach to it and Sundance isn't a network that would buy native advertising here. It's a real shame it's left unmentioned here. :/

I 100% agree with Ray Donovan, The Affair, UnREAL (especially) & The Knick. Same with Angie Tribeca, Love, Vice Principals, Taboo & Billions. Even Homeland has become somewhat under the radar lately the last 3 seasons IMO. Yes, it’s critically-acclaimed and very popular but after that mess of Season 3, it has picked itself up & regained as still one of the Best TV series out there but I rarely hear anybody talk about it anymore.

Mozart ITJ and the Expanse are must watch TV. I know it's technically over, but I've watched Justified at least half a dozen times all the way through and it never gets old. I haven't talked to a single person who has seen it.

I was gonna post this. It is probably the most highly underrated series i've ever experienced! Black sails is very close at #2. Holy Balls both of these are required instant viewing in my book. Season 4 of HaCF is AMAZING!!!!

Rahul Mahajan I'm happy to see some HCF fans! Heartbreaking indeed. It didn't hit me at first that he was going to die at that moment, until the final shot of him looking at a younger Donna. The thing that really struck me hard was watching Joe's reaction. He and Gordon have been back and forth over the years, but through it all they became close friends and dreamed together.
The Leftovers is my favorite television show of all time. Granted I have some classic shows to catch up on, but I know what I like and I kow it will be REALLY tough to top it.

Don't know how popular it actually was but no one in my circle gave it a chance. Shame, it was on par to GOT, I'm my opinion. Fantastic writing and cast.
The knick is a 10/10, the problem is that its more than a certain that they will not continue this serie

Never was a major Soderberg fan but The Knick is a masterpiece in anyone's book. Even Clive Owen's half assed NY accent can't break it's spell, and the final "this is all we are" moments are the stuff of legend!

Dirk Gently, Timeless, Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Peaky Blinders, Shameless (US), The Good Place, iZombie, Hit the Floor, Black Sails, The Musketeers.
Kingdom starring Frank Grillo absolutely belonged here, one of the most natural dramas on television, with an electrifying performance from Jonathan Tucker. Sadly, didn't find a large enough draw to make it past the 3rd season, small solace being that the season 3 finale isn't terrible as a season finale, but there was definitely more to tell.

Rantan Plan Its provocative in the US. People in America want to remember the cold war in black and white. That America was fighting for good and Russia was the Evil menace.

I have Russian roots and I was born in the US, and I definitely agree with you. There are always two sides to a story, and one of the things that I love about the show is it's ability to challenge the majority's idea of a significant part of world history.
Rantan Plan you know, for how good it is, I think it can be considered underrated when you look at some other shows airing that are destroying it in the ratings.

Two series that definitely should have been on this list is TURN:Washingtons spies and Hell on Wheels.... those shows are so underrated..

The premise was amazing but the execution was terrible.
1st season was good, 2nd sucked sooo bad
I remember watching the very first episode of the leftovers on HBO when it first started back in 2013 and I was completely captivated and it really hurt when I would really try my best to try to get people to watch it and no one will listen. FlashForward four years three seasons later and people are barely coming around. It’s just a shame it didn’t get the love it deserves when it needed it.
Never have I agreed with the #1 selection so much. The Leftovers is one of the best shows you came watch, period. And the soundtrack is just haunting and amazing.

Gotham! Seriously, people have given it so much crap, but I discovered it on Netflix and I have loved this show to bits. It's over the top and gonzo in its approach, but it's well crafted, well acted and never boring. Totally fun pulp entertainment!

Halt and Catch Fire is definitely the most underrated show with the most underrated genius actors ever. Also, although more known because of the book and subject, The Man in the High Castle is the greatest show of modern television, yet, still underrated as hell.

Leftovers was the best show I ever watched: I cried and laugh a lot, and the end simply blew my mind away... but it's that kind of show we can't suggest to everyone... it's about spirituality above religiosity, hope above faith, forgiveness above redemption, and it is not (it's complex and I think each one have his/her own experimentation). Few seasons was as amazing as was its second season (I could compare with the third season of Dexter).

Gotham is vastly underrated but not quite to the extent of the shows mentioned in the video.
Even though the makers of Gotham didn't follow the actual history of the characters, they develop quite a good plot not forgetting the cast.

Trust me being a Canadian and Schitts Creek being a Canadian show. It has alot of people watching it. Funny and original. You should also have mentioned a show called Murdoch Mysteries another show which is overlooked and amazing.

I highly recommend "The Expanse" to any sci-fi fans. I binge-watched the first season after seeing the reviews and reading articles saying it was one of the best shows no one was watching. I almost immediately fell in love with the show. The cast has a good dynamic, the show isn't overly political, the special effects are done well, and there's a good balance of action and drama. The real selling point is the technology shown in universe. Little touches like mag-boots used in micro-gravity to cool ideas like a drug being used to combat the effects of high-gravity stresses are carried throughout the series. It's an ensemble cast where it feels like every character really does have a role to play, and you're invested in how their story pans out.
Great job, this is one good list! People forget, there is so much good stuff out in the world of television aside from the eversame _Game of Thrones_ nonsense and the 1.000.000 episode of the _Grey's Anatomy_ mainstream. Well, it's all about network and promotion, isn't it?! By the way, _watchmojo_ , how annoyed are you yourself about the omnipresence of ads in UA-cam clips?! And the most ridiculous part here, we have all heard about PayPal, that collaboration is about ten years late! 🙈
