Nah, the A-10 is more like a classic Strong Man where as the F-35 is the modern day athlete.

@@SquooshyCatboy its because its replacing the things we love with something we dont. Its replacing the godly a10, f15 and f16 (the three aircraft which are cheap and reliable for any situation) with something that is overly expensive and specialised. Its going to be another f111 where it tries to please everyone but pleases no-one. Pilots are a dying breed. My generation may be the last to sit in a chair with 50 buttons and a stick infront of us and the f35 is taking away most of the flight control goven to the pilot and making fbw to the extreme. Idk man maybe im just sad but i just want to fly for real in a real aircraft designed in a shed by two men in thier 20s
the way this guy uses the doggo that looks so confused like the cat that cant handle the flower is so good, it should be a meme template

No, the A-10 doesn't have a gun. The gun has an A-10.
*”Does he have a gun??”*
*”No, the gun has him.”*
The A-10 is a gun with a plane attached to it
In a way thats kinda true. The initial design idea was to build a plane around the gun.

Finally something wholesome on the internet! I love the Hog! I love in Tucson, AZ where Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is located where the Airforce's 355th Wing is stationed. They are responsible for the training and deployment of the A-10C.
I was born and raised here so my entire life I've had these hard with a over my head daily. Seeing their demonstrations at the local Air Show was awe inspiring as a child. that is in part why I decided to become a aircraft mechanic and restorer.
I don't think umentioned the "canopy" painted on the bottom of the fuselage. It gives the illusion of a canopy at range, thus making it hard to determine which direction the aircraft is traveling. Either being to, or from the Observer.

Maybe that's why I like the f35 so much, I'm the middle kid my parents keep forgetting at McDonald's.
I worked for the government back when the JSF program was going on in the 90s and early 00s. There was a lot of stupidity, nepotism, and bureaucratic incompetence that all fed into its ridiculous overruns in price and delivery delays.
My first in-depth experience of just how bloated, wasteful, and inefficient our government is.
Getting serious top gear vibes from this.... like hearing Clarkson at the wheel of an Audi R8.... yeah I remember 2008... the nostalgia.... keep up the good work mate.... looking forward to the next one!
Me, I've always loved the A-10. I was a crew chief on one for 2 years and it was the best 2 years of my entire career. The A-10 is what you could call the strong, silent type. It shows up, puts up, and goes home successfully. There's no fooling around with the A-10. When it's time to get the job done then the A-10 will do it and do it well. I sincerely hope it never gets retired.
As much as I love the A-10 for what it is, there’s a drive to replace it for a very good reason. A slow, non-stealthy low altitude attack aircraft is extremely vulnerable on any battlefield other than one with the Taliban as oppositional forces. If the enemy has anti air capability beyond that of RPG’s and DSHKa’s , then you’re boned. In a near peer fight with a modern military, an A-10 would get shredded by everything from MANPADs to enemy fighters, and everything in between. The only way way an A-10 could be used in such a conflict is if the US Air Force has complete air dominance, and has also eliminated any enemy AAA. Even then, the A-10 would still be vulnerable to MANPADs on attack runs. At the end of the day, the A-10 is a very efficient platform for CAS against a technologically inferior foe, but against a 21st century military it would be a liability.
As for the M14 analogy, you’re almost proving my point with the A-10. There’s a reason the M14 is the shortest serving main battle rifle of the US Army, despite having the full might of the Ordnance Corps thrown behind it. It’s weight, both of the gun and it’s ammunition, made it extremely cumbersome for an infantryman with a basic load. You mentioned the issues with the wood stock, though obviously that’s not relevant to modern M1A’s. The M14 was infamous for its unreliability in Vietnam, due to its many exposed operating surfaces allowing foreign contaminants to clog its action. The M16, even in its worst days, was miles ahead in terms of reliability. Both rifles are very accurate, so the only true advantage the M14 has over the AR-15 platform is its stopping power.
At the end of the day, the A-10, like the M14, served a purpose, but combat technology has passed it by. Both the A-10 and M14 are very cool pieces of equipment, and I’d sure love to own either (or both), but they’re no longer on the bleeding edge.
Maybe, but here’s the problem: we aren’t fighting peers anymore. To be blunt, we bomb ambiguously brown people. Stealth isn’t really important for that
Love your content dude! Man, your channel has blown up in the spand of 11 months! Crazy!

"They might even ask me to fly the F-35, but I'd probably rather defect."
I almost died when I heard this and I couldn't agree more.
Definitely the best videos ! You’re killing it ! I can’t wait for the next episode
I live near an Air Force base and A-10 warthogs roar over my house all the time, The Air Force also has quite a few B-2s and it’s really cool to see it fly over the town I live in
This rings to me and reminds me of the harrier of all it's models and just it's story over its life time
My dad was in the Air Force and he would co-ordinate the A-10s for attacks so I always loved the A-10. He would tell stories and show videos of them destroying buildings and killing the bad guys which was epic. It may be chunky and wide, but for a good reason. Also your channel has come a long way and I will stick with you through it until the end!
“Ya know what can’t be hacked, bullets”
The thing I love about enjoying something is that you don't have to be embarrassed about not knowing something about it. You should be excited to learn more about what you love.
I clicked on this expecting to hear “welcome back everybody” but.......nothing lol. I’ll be waiting. I swear my GF is going to stab me if she hears me walk around the house saying “welcome back everybody” one more time😂. I said it nonstop for 2 days a couple days ago, I love it it’s F N great😂
That speech about being replaced really resonated with me after losing my significant other.. almost brought a tear to my eye.

when the a10 eventually gets replaced something that they dont ever think about it the morale equation of the jet sure if they find something that out performs the a10 ill accept it but the sound of that gun will make any NATO soldier having a bad day on the ground perk up and cheer
They just need to make the Arma 3 A10
You actually managed to answer a question had about the a 10, the question was how the aircraft deals with the recoil from that massive freedom launcher, well done good sir

To whom it may concern
‘BRRRRRRRRTTT’
"To whom it may concern" would be used when firing a long-range missile over the horizon.
When firing an A-10, each bullet is signed "To those meatbags over there".
Having been on the ground in the Middle East during some of the hardest fighting, I can tell you this much. When the A-10's showed up, everyone relaxed a little bit. The buzzing of the GAU was music to our ears. Often times, all you found after a gun run was teeth and shoes - that's it. God bless the A-10.
Did you know that the ammunition on the A10s gatling gun doesn't use conventional propellant.
Cant remember what it's called but it uses a special chemical that doesnt coat the cockpit in soot while it's under fire.
Another fact is that the thrust that the nozzle makes on the gatling gun is equivalent to 1 of the A10s engines, and because of this, the gun has to be shot in short bursts.
The GAU thrust actually exceeds the thrust of a single A10 engine by a bit.
@@tadferd4340 10,000 lb of force. So a good 11% more
So it originally used a double base propellant, that was later modified. I know there was a change to the double base long time ago that drastically reduced soot. I found a patent for a nitramine base propellant but no further info. So my assumption is it's still using a rework of the original double base propellant.
It looks like the main cause of soot was the primer/ignition of the main propellant. They changed the ignition method and drastically reduced the soot.
Also, they installed window washer systems back with the soot problem. Dunno if those are still a thing.
Found this forum post.
------
What I can say for sure is this: the ammunition used by the GAU-8 system features a propellant-- smokeless gunpowder-- that actually shows up sometimes as surplus military powder and is sold to persons such as myself, who reload firearms cartridges...
The pull-down version used by USAF is known as WC-870, and it is manufactured in a powder plant in Crawfordville, Florida, that is owned and operated by General Dynamics. About two weeks ago, I had a guy offer to sell me 8 pounds of the stuff for $10 a pound-- which is very inexpensive compared to the canister powders sold to the public... like, 1/3rd the price or less...
Up until 1992, a powder-peddling company known as Hodgdon used to sell a canister version of the powder which they marketed under the name of "H870"... being as this powder is good for propelling heavy-ass, depleted uranium-type projectiles, it's not such a big surprise that H870 was being sold in the civilian market as a propellant to be used with heavier magnum rifle cartridges such as .300 Win. Mag. and on up...
The powder worked "okay"... but it was never anybody's favorite because there were other powder types that out-performed H870, and more, the H870 powder was some of the dirtiest-burning shit any of us ever saw... and so Hodgdon yanked the product in '02, seeing as nobody besides the Air Force seemed to be using much of the shit anyway.

My father flew for the USAF and served in Iraq and Afghanistan he was originally assigned to an A-10 squadron I forget the name of it but he first flew some jets and then cargo he helped fly platoons and every time I hear him talk about it it always puts a smile on my face. The reason why I tell you all this is because well when I’m older I either want to get into Army Drones or well flying jets at the speed of sound but until I’m not old enough I just have to wait. Thanks for reading!

Hey
I flew an A-10 for several years. I thought our base was being attacked so I went out and strafed a rusty tank, a Honda Civic and a Tyrannosaurus. The boss smelled alcohol on my breath so I never got credit for the dinosaur.
These are my 3 favorite airplane books:
- Scream of Eagles by Robert Wilcox
- Going Downtown by Jack Broughton
- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
The way you describe the A10 as an analogy to body types, makes it sound like the Danny Devito of aeronautics, and that has done nothing but make me love it more than i already have
“The A-10 just speaks to me on a personal and philosophical level.” I have never heard anything so relatable in my entire god damn life. The A-10 really is just a dream of a plane, all of it is so perfect when you think of it.
This is officially the best video on UA-cam, best channel too! Love how you really put effort in it, and talks from your heart, while other people just would have rambled about specs, saying it’s slow and so on

I remember when I was very young, I went to an airshow and they had an a10 there, and I just loved it and I’ve loved it ever since
I 100% agree with everything said in this video about the A10 Warthog. Ever since I first saw this plane, I had a deep sympathy for it that I could not explain. It was just so different from all the other planes that I had seen before. And such a special one, so good at what it's made for. I just love it, and your video perfectly captured how I and supposedly many others feel about this beautiful plane.
Very nice video! I watched it all. I am a BRRRRRT Fan. I hope the Roog can get those big paws on little switches when he needs switches switched in a pinch.

Awesome video! I LOVE! The A10... Always have... Ive researched the heck out of it... But the one thing I had no Idea about.. Is the TITANIUM bits surrounding the pilot... THAT is amazing!

The end really got to me. But regardless yes. Nothing would be more soothing as a boots on the ground soldier than the low whir of those engines soar overhead and know if you run into anything heavy or dug in you got that beautiful bird to keep you safe.

The A-10 is such a kickass plane, and that reference to the M14/M1A is on point
I never knew your videos were so personal
This just really makes you think
How a video about an A-10 also turned into a motivational speech. Legendary
The A-10 will never be replaced because of how efficient it is at its job and role on the battlefield. Going hand in hand with its survivability against enemy fire.
This series is a UA-cam gem that is just perfectly executed! There is an obvious air of hard work, talent, and most importantly passion that comes out through the clips. While I know that there was a template to begin with, it is evident this took some focus. The editing spot-on & the general timing is as well. The most impressive display of talent or is the commentary. It is just perfectly romantized with a precise amount of humor added in at just the perfect time, just as it was done by the originators of the style. So as stated before, these clips are very impressive, & I hope the Top Gear creators get to see these one day.
Mr. NoDak sir, thank you! I wish I could offer more than kind words with a "like, comment & subscribe", but alas this is the internet. I hope you receive this digital handshake.

Loved the little gunny tribute, semper fi, carry on RIP GUNNY
The A-10 is a beautiful aircraft in my opinion. The kind of plane that you can give a few shiners and will always get back up and square off with you time after time. The big brother we always wanted when the kids picked on you on the playground. I would choose an A-10 hands down every time to fly, for plenty of reasons. Yes of course the payload, survivability, and and huge F’n gun haha but also about making sure our boys on the ground have the support they need to kick ass and make sure that they can do it tomorrow and the next day.
Sorry for the long winded comment. But I 210% agree with you in every second of this 13:04 minute video. Absolutely top notch content, I truly enjoy your videos. Keep it up
I've had the ...."pleasure" of firing one of the full auto m14's and the tip I got from my grandfather about it was, if your gonna fire it on full auto hold it sideways so the recoil sweeps the area (he was in the army in the mid 50s)
"It's not sexy" Take that back... Take that back right now.
the F-22 looks like the older sibling who keeps policing the other children
Just as this plane can do wheelies, It made me do my own feelies
NoDak....you earned a lot of respect for me. I was on course for going to the Air Force Academy but bailed on that. Besides with poor eyes, bad lungs, and an overworking brain, flying wasn’t much of an option.
Wouldve chose the A-10 100% of the time.
Even was told by a retired f-15 captain not to pick the A-10 seeing it was “outdated”
I gave him a look and he moved on.
Dang it I’m late. I slept too much. I just woke up. Ok let’s watch this epic video :). Also have a Great day NoDak and keep up the Great work:)!
