- Arbroath is a charming coastal town located in the council area of Angus, Scotland, which has a special place in Scotland’s history. Arbroath Abbey, established in 1178 by King William the Lion, is a historical landmark and was once a major religious centre in Scotland. The Declaration of Arbroath, a pivotal document in Scottish history, was signed at this abbey in 1320. This significant document was a letter sent to Pope John XXII in 1320, asserting Scotland's independence from England. It is considered a cornerstone of Scottish identity and an important symbol of national pride.
Arbroath harbour dates back to the 12th century, and has played a significant role in the town's growth and prosperity. Today, it is a popular spot for boating, fishing, and enjoying scenic views of the North Sea. The town is famous for its traditional smoked haddock dish called "Arbroath Smokie." It is prepared by hot-smoking haddock over hardwood, which gives it a distinct flavour.
Located around 11 miles off the coast of Arbroath is the Bell Rock Lighthouse, which is one of the world's oldest surviving sea-washed lighthouses. It was built between 1807 and 1810 by engineer Robert Stevenson and is still in operation today.

Thank 😊 you SO much. my grandmother Barbara Garland was born here on September 28, 1897 and I have never visited. God bless you. No trees but beautiful cosy cottages. The Abbey ruins should be more famous they are reaĺly impressive
