I just found out you're married (through the comments), and you are one of the most sweet (not suit) and adorable couples I've ever seen. I hope you always be happy.
Keep up the good work.
Wow, thank you Hosseyn Shanbeh Zaadeh!
You can do
"Choir" and "Chaos" sound nothing like they spelled.
Hi Minh and thanks for this. We have looked at these words in our other videos. Hope you liked them/
My students pronounce the 's' in 'island'... They find silent letters perplexing and keep on asking me why there are silent letters in the English language! I just tell them that this is the way English is! Any other more convincing answer than this one? Thank you for this amazing video :)
Oh great example Ahmed! Thank you. Maybe we should make a video about silent letters.
Try researching the etymology of the word. In the case of island, the original form had no S. In Old English it was īegland (īeg meaning watery). In Middle English it was iland/yland. In the 16th century the spelling was changed to island because of the influence of the word isle. Isle does not have the same origin as island though. Isle comes from Latin, insula. That's why the S is there but it's not pronounced.
Same feeling with you sir
There's two parts to it. The easier part is that English borrows heavily from other languages. You may be reading a word that's French, and being pronounced and spelled properly in French, with an English accent. At some point, English just stopped translating. If we can say it, we'll use it. For example: chauffeur, pronounced show-fur. Then to make it fun, we do that with lots of languages and come up with lots of different ways to spell the same sound.
The second part is time. The easies example is simply that when people speak quickly, they tend to run syllables together or drop difficult letters or skip suffixes, even though if they spoke slowly they'd say it properly. Over time, the easier pronunciation becomes normal, but the spelling stays the same. The videos below are of Americans making fun of ourselves for this.

Tell them that you would be offended if they pronounce them the same way you would if they pronounced the silent "h" in your name.
A video lesson worth melting for. Make English waves with Simple English.
Thanks Mollie. Great to see you, as always.

I think “sour” is a word from Germany because we say „sauer“ but it’s pronounced the same way. That’s really interesting. Also the word Doppelgänger or Kindergarten is completely German 😂
You're right Please stop t Series. It's an old German word. www.etymonline.com/word/sour#etymonline_v_23926 And yes, we say doppleganger and kindergarten all the time. :-)
Thank you for all of your sauerkraut!
But German and English come from the same family of language that's why words like Guten Morgan und Good Morning are so similar. I think sour would be a fairly old word due to food being sour in nature. Maybe it is maybe it isn't a didn't look it up lamo.
@@madmaster8304 Guten Morgen * :)

Thanks for sharing that. One of our favorite dishes is sauerkraut. :-)

We're very glad you did too Mari. Thanks so much for watching. :-)
I find the word "Through" very difficult to pronounce
Ah yes. I think we might make a video about words that end in '-ough.' Thanks Philibert.
Simple, (I don't remember 100% of it) I also hear that some Americans are starting to have cot caught blend where they are starting starting to blend words like that and pronouncing them the same.
Th-roo. Throo. Through.
Urgh I just hate that word. And then there is: though, through, thorough, thought. It is just impossible.
TheBarser What is your native language?
I love this kind of ur videos😂
We'll try to make some more this summer Katarina.
Could you make also a video about British accents? I've been watching a series (Supernatural) where they have characters with American, British and Scottish accents, and it's very amusing to hear.
Something I notices about Scottish pronunciation was the word "dead" being pronounced as "deed". Any thought on that?
Oh I love a Scottish accent. I can't do one I'm afraid but yes, they pronounce dead as deed. I think my favourite British accent is Geordie, but I'm afraid I can't do that either. I'll keep my ears open for some accents we might be able to include in our videos.
I almost know all of those words in English as my 4th language but I just love these adorable humans,
Big respect From Afghanistan ... ❤🇦🇫
Oh and big respect to you for speaking 4 languages, Humayoon. That's wonderful.
Oh ini menyenangkan😍
Glad you liked it MarKo. :-)
"Sugar", "umbrella", "tree/three", "water" and "time" are just some simple yet often mispronounced words where I am from. They often sound like "soo-ger", "um-ber-re-la", "tlee" (same for both words), "war-tur" and "tum".
Thanks so much for these great suggestions Huai, and also for explaining what can trip people up in Singapore. Very helpful!
You are very nice, I like your videos :)
Thanks so much Dbcj Jcjtd.:-)
