- Here are eight words you've told us you find hard to pronounce in English.
Watch some English learners pronounce them and learn how we say them in British and American English. It's a great way to improve your pronunciation.
You'll learn how we say: foreigner, athlete, climb, indict, dangerous, extraordinary, analysis, to analyze, and lure. You'll also get some practice with shifting word stress and tips on how to pronounce long words by backchaining.

Shire
Plymouth
Salisbury
I lived in Southeastern Europe for 4 years, they were confused about the pronunciation differences between (tough, though, thought, although)

No words r enough to compliment u.🤗🤗
Wow, thank you for these kind words Tanaya!
I'm trying mi best with this words friends!! Thanks one more time for your dedication. Please, make another one with 'uncomfortable' , it's sooo dificult for me to pronounce!! Even more complicated than 'comfortable' 🤦🏻♂️
Hi Alberto. We have made a video about comfortable that you can see here: www.simpleenglishvideos.com/10-difficult-words-to-say-in-british-and-american-english/ but we haven't made one about uncomfortable. I can see how that would be trickier. Maybe we should make a video about just these two words.
Great videos like always, and I have a few suggestions for the words! Brewery, cavalry, explicit, February, library, rural, specific, and temperature! That’s a lot but hope you consider one of them!
Ha! Oh these are great Sophie. I have a question. Are you a teacher who is teaching a lot of Asian students? I ask because there are lots of r's and l's here that are bound to cause some slips. Some of these words are on our list already but I am adding ALL the rest. They're great suggestions. Oh and we looked at February before: ua-cam.com/video/RJld_yfJ9qs/v-deo.html
Simple English Videos I am Asian but not a teacher, English is not my native language. (Japan) And in the past I had a lot of mishaps trying to pronounce these words! I have gotten better at pronouncing these words but when I talk too fast I tend to mispronounce it
Well, it was a great list. Thank you.
I'm a 47 year old Englishman. Why am i binge watching these videos.

We're glad you liked it Sorinela.
Thanks for this video. You both really helpful because of you it's easy to learn both American and British English. But I love British English because in India emphasis to learn British English as compared to american. British English is to be considered as Standard English in India...
So glad you liked it Ashish!
Why can't you hear a pterodactyl use the bathroom?
It's because the p is silent.
Let`s hear the word "worth" :D I really struggle with that one!
Hi Molly, this is Jay writing back to you. Vicki and I were just taking last night about producing a video with the different uses of the 'th' sound. So stay tuned :-) Thanks for writing to us and thanks for watching our video.

Simple English Videos
Thank you!
"Lure" second word on British English that new information to me, I'm happy to know it and try to spell it.
So glad we could help, Fey.
You are really lovely couple! ❤️
Thank you so much Martin. 😊
Great video, I've learnt more in this video than in any English class. In your next videos, please indicate stresses with an apostrophe!
Analysis: əˈnæl.ə.sɪs
Analyse: ˈæn.əl.aɪz
Hi Krenv. So glad it was useful. My favourite dictionaries indicate stress with an (upper line) apostrophe and it's the best way to do it in my view, so I get why this would be helpful to you. I've found that students don't always know that the apostrophe marks the accented syllable though, hence I opted for emboldening. But you're separating the syllables as well here which could be helpful. Let me think some more about this. Thanks very much for sharing this thought.
A few words I personally have known for ESL speakers; Fascination, Quagmire, lodge. Tricky differences like "drought" and "draught" and then "draft". Live vs live. Read vs read and lead vs lead. Just for fun; fish=singular, fish=plural, and fishes=plural and when to properly use them.
Thanks so much for these great suggestions Gentoo. :-)
I agree with Jay its easier
Hi Arturo. This is Jay writing back to you. Thanks for the support :-)
good
Thanks Ten minutes.
Thank you for this video. You are very nice! But I am mad at my English teachers. You see, I am from Lithuania and we in Lithuania, were thought that for example word "foreigner" should be pronounce like :"for-einer" and you showed "forenor". Climb we were tought like "climb" and you say it like "Clim" without b. Thanks
Hi Airis, ah yes these words are tricky and well done for spotting them. But never be mad at your English teacher. English teachers are always WONDERFUL people. :-)
@@SimpleEnglishVideos I am not mad. I am learning French language either. So I love my English and French teachers 😁
Vicky: “Are you ready to practice you English pronunciation?”
Me *a native speaker watching this video*: “Yes...Yes I am!!
