This was the line that got me out of collecting back in the day. I can’t afford to just up and buy 5 bots in one go so completing a full combiner was never really a possibility for me. Do you know what the antithesis of fun is? I’d say it’s 3/5 of a combiner making a flaccid attempt to look cool.
Or is it the most fun. I have tons of fond memories of not having a complete set of stuff and trying to make it work. When it's done, it just kind of goes and lives on a shelf.
I agree that Combiner Wars wasn't flawed but all the combiners were awesome has hell but now their all expensive such as Brawl being 136 dollars on Amazon
Yeah it's a flawed line that sacrificed everything else in the name of the gimmick. It's a Cool Gimmick, but the individual figures do suffer for it. Still cool though.
I'm glad to hear that I've gotten better. It hasn't felt like it, and a few people told me that I started at a level that was so polished that I didn't have anywhere to go. I feel like I only got faster at cutting stuff, and better at knowing what shots I'll need so there's less waste. Though my set up did improve with a boom arm for my microphone, and a better camera, though that changed very early on.

Combiner Wars Voyager Optimus is ROUGH, especially compared to Siege or even Earthrise. The best thing that can be said about him is that if you're willing to blow $50 on the Primo Vitalis upgrade kit, he apparently makes a pretty good MP scale IDW Optimus.... The best way I can summarize his issues is by saying that Transformers Energon Optimus Prime, the one that the fanbase mockingly dubbed "Fatimus prime" and is a blatant Megazord copyright infringement, does virtually everything CW Optimus does as good or better, at the cost of a bit of leg articulation.
Yeah I got the Jetfire, that that's a retool of. I like the mold alot, but I don't know that it works all that well for either of them. Like Jetfire is supposed to be a Space 747, and the seekers don't have the entire front of the plane on their backs.
I have the ko set of combaticons and my onslaught had the same problem as your hot spot where the legs couldn’t do the thing. It’s like that because there’s an extra cylinder piece inside his legs that prevents it from clicking into place, so I opened up the legs and cut it off, along with an extra triangle that’s not on the original and it works fine now.
I mean if you loved the Gimmick I can see how that line would slay for you. But if you don't then the constant compromises to meet the gimmick will drag it down.
If you watch that video again, where the graph that shows the completeness of the lines I own is, there is this sad little whips at the end, "BW: Why did you sell us?" As I grew up like some kind of idiot moron, I sold almost all of my childhood toys to buy new ones. Now I wish I just had the old ones back.
I was CLOSE to finishing Sky Reign, but I couldn't find Sky Lynx, and also with me being like 8 years old at the time, I pretty obviously lost several accessories
Ah Combiner Wars. I see plenty of Combiners, not so much on the Wars. Hasbro picked a perfect time to recapture my imagination. Bionicle finished up its first generation run. Hero Factory was shutting down and the Thrilling 30 reminded me that Transformers hadn't converted 100% to the Bayverse. First wave was brilliant. 4 of one team and 1 of the opposing team. Enough to put together a combiner, but a complete. And when wave 2 came out that missing piece came weeks later so you'd buy the other. It was the marketing saavy of a crack dealer. It's one strength was that the molds were so all-purpose you could make dozens of combiners from the components. But that was also its weakness. A bad mold stayed a bad mold and created a lot of apathy in later waves like 7 and 8. Helicopter: I liked them. Alpha Bravo was a predeco of Blades and Vortex. I wish they had retooled this mold for Blast Off Harrier: it simplicity saves it. I renamed the CW Blast Off, into Lift Off. A fighter jet makes sense in that combat group so I approve. F-14 and F1 race car: I wish they were used 1 or 2 molds more and the Sports Car/Sedan used 2-3 molds less. Pick up Truck: Not bad. Back when these were $11 or $12 USD it seemed like a good value. The workhorse of the line as it was used for tanks, APC, jeeps, ambulances and drill machines. Lambo: Lucky you look pretty. Car mode is good. Robot mode is ugh. but we got Breakdown vs Sunstreaker. Sedan: I didn't hate the sedan at first. Nor the 2nd or 3rd time used. 5 was my limit. After 5, I didn't care. And the Stunticons took 3 of those slots already. I just got sick of the sedans. The other bit of marketing I started to respect, but then hate was the 6th member. The Aerialbots, Stunticons, Protectobots and Combaticons got a six member to fill in for an absent #5. When you could order them only I thought that was brilliant. It added something new, but left the original recipe available online. But it only works if the originals are available. Groove and Blast Off were easy, but Slingshot and Wildrider were impossible to find. Another dropped ball Hasbro. But those are my memories of the Combiner Wars.
Yeah, I was and into the transformers for really long time largely because of the bay verse myself. Honestly I never thought of that before, but it would have made a good blast off. That was all very interesting, I never got to experience combine are wars of myself in any meaningful way. So it was very intriguing to see your reaction to it.
It had some cool stuff but a lot of it felt cheap (but not Earthrise cheap). The Rook mold, esp. the Swindle variant, was a highlight of the line though.
@@PerspectiveEnd Don't get me wrong, Im not a big fan of any of the other limbs either (I now look at my CW Sunstreaker with disgust knowing that the Earthrise version exists), buuuut the hench proportions of the Rook mold just hit me the right way, and the ranges on its limbs are well above average. It's just a fun and solid figure to mess with, and on top of that my Swindle variant has no qc issues whatsoever. Plus, as Vangelus pointed out back in the day on his review of Rook, you could plug the Combiner Wars hands onto his fists to give him comically large boxing gloves.
My Sky Reign's limbs: Groove, Afterbreaker, Wreck-Gar & Streetwise. Yeah, never been a big Protectobots fan, so, I sold off Hot Spot & First Aid. I attached Blades to my Superion (Alpha Bravo broke). Rook I'm planning to retool/repaint into somebody else. Haven't decided who yet. Probably a Decepticon though.
I think Moon Racer and Nova Star look fantastic as Sky Reigns legs. They are so clean, and they color match him so well, it just makes him sleek. Yeah, can't say I've ever been impressed with the Protectabots. First Aid is really the only one I care about and that's because of the IDW comic.
Wait a sec... that nemesis prime for the power of the primes has a red starsaber the armada one used in the episode where he was introduced... So why didn't hasbro make a recolor of that starsaber and give it to legacy armada starscream? They also gave that same sword to the siege nemesis too. Infact all the accessories are the same then the power of the primes one.
I was able to pick up an inferno at TJ Max for 5$. Only regret is I haven't found anything else to form with him. I might have to go the ko route. I wish I could support, but like you said they don't make it anymore. On the wingspan ( and pounce ) I mostly picked them up for my 4 year old who loves transformers ( really good at following directions and not brute forcing ) because we have the g1 versions and hey, can never have too many transformers.

If they aren't providing there is nothing amoral about getting your product from people who aren't even hurting their business now. Hey those seem like prime little kid transformers. I do have the wingspan, and it's ok, it's great that your kid is into Transformers. All kids should love this stuff.
I bought the KO Protectobots too, and Groove is also my least favourite. His comboner is way too tight and his head fell apart and won’t reconnect together. At least he’s just in leg mode most of the time. The moment I get a Rook though, Groove is going in the accessories tub

No issues with first aid or Blades, and unfortunately one of hot spot’s thighs is missing the notch needed to hold his thigh in place in combined mode so it just has to stay in place via the power of friction. Overall for about half the price of the official guys at store price, not bad. I might have to get an official hotspot though just for Defensor
I only just started collecting and I want a combiner wars devestator but I was only 10 and my dumb kid brain didn’t even know what combiner wars was. Only combiner wars figure I got was Air Raid. Also he came with a comic book, was that normal because I’ve never seen any reviewer bring up comics in that line?
They did recently rerelease the combiner wars Devestator, like just earlier this year. And there are not the state you can find on eBay, so it's not a lost cause if you want to get one.

perspective trust me those 2 had a thing for each other and unlike what you mentioned about noble and nightscream in your roasting video they both kind of made sense i mean when the mayhem squad was rampaging on cybertron alpha bravo help offroad to recover and both were found by toxitron and when they merged to wreckage both knew the anger and hatred of wreckage so both agreed to get killed alpha bravo killed offroad and alpha bravo was killed by toxitron ( side note: toxitron is nothing like impactor he was just confused by his hatred on the decepticons for using him and he did not want to be a beast since he was found in the sea of rust he was used by shockwave and he was so strong he almost killed jetfire he told impactor that he is questioning his existance and impactor just didin't cared and told him to just joined he didin't cared if toxitron was out of controlled he just wanted to stop mayhem)
The helicopter mold looks like a spaceship. Especially the white one. I mean, what helicopter is so long? This is a spaceship with missiles on the side and a spinny thingy on top.
I made combiner wars prowl not a fo former by removing the backpack car peice then removing the fake chest then sanded the place where the fake chest was connected to then place down the back peice to the front and i used a wire or a pin to connect the neck back into and it turned it into no longer fo forming but looking fat
What makes you say that? I think the Mirage is clearly Mirage, even if VERY stylized. At least he's not like Dino from the movies. Who everyone keeps telling me was apparently Mirage.
@@PerspectiveEnd Feet are the spoiler, arms form the sides of the car, and even though it doesn't have the front as the chest at least it isn't a faux part for literally no reason. No really, Siege Mirage had all the engineering in it to allow the chest to fold up to be part of the vehicle, but they just didn't for no real reason.
So despite featuring him in the thumbnail, you never said your opinion on devastator. I mean from what you have seen, I want your opinion of both the team and devastator without the upgrade kit. Unless you are gonna make a vid on him for W.T.B(what’s the best for short, really hope you use that acronym one vid) devastator or constructicons. I ask mainly because after eying him for years but unable to get him I missed the original release window and eBay and Amazon sold him at like 300 to 400 usd. And then he was reissued at Amazon at original price, and now he will be arriving in the mail(or at my door because I doubt he will fit in the mailbox) tomorrow on 3/2, and I am stoked. And I have heard the complaint that devastator is to big, but honestly I think most of the combiners are too small, I feel most of the combiners should have been around devastator size. I unfortunately never got my hands on one. I've seen other reviews. Im not all that impressed by what I've seen, but then again I do have what everyone considers the best Devestator on the market, and I am Horrifically unimpressed by that one, and if I could do it again, I'd rather spend the lesser amount on the combiner wars one.

And I have gone on long enough and I don’t know why I write incredibly long comments and I hope it doesn’t bother you.

And it is surprisingly stable, and also looks amazing when posed with my other figures like my earthrise hoist and grapple, almost perfect scaling with other figures for me. I should say that I don’t have masterpiece level of standards, so take what I say with a grain of salt

never had combiner wars apart from one legends class paraglider decepticon recolor. so from what I see the entire line is a bunch a pretty meh figures who can combine, also almost all of them are retool of other moulds. fun if you hvae the right team, underwhelming in everything else.
As someone who was there, I can say it was repaint city. The only combiner I fully completed was bruticas. Most of the figures after wave 2 were repaints. The devastator was neat,but it doesn’t scale well at all. The new combiners are dumb, sky lynx looks dumb, the prime looks dumb. And I hate what they did the the teams in the comics and show. So in all Worse than earth rise, nothing but repaints and nothing but disappointment
Looks shitty. Studio 86 dragged me back into Transformers and the new toys fulfill my decades old desire to have full teams of the first 2 waves. Sadly, core guys are expensive and there are many holes in the lineup.

I hate the Head Master Gimmick my self, but when I gave TR a Try I found that the engineering was actually shockingly good. Some of those TR figures are still amazing right now. And then with Siege we saw a massive uptick in quality and design. Hasbro can still put out some awesome stuff, sure it's hit or miss but at least the misses come cheap. 3P is awesome, but I got space in my heart to enjoy both.

I was trying to put together Optimus Maximus, but I couldn’t get Prowl at a good price. I had to get Fireflight.

My Sky Reign's limbs: Groove, Afterbreaker, Wreck-Gar & Streetwise. Yeah, never been a big Protectobots fan, so, I sold off Hot Spot & First Aid. I attached Blades to my Superion (Alpha Bravo broke). Rook I'm planning to retool/repaint into somebody else. Haven't decided who yet. Probably a Decepticon though.
I think Moon Racer and Nova Star look fantastic as Sky Reigns legs. They are so clean, and they color match him so well, it just makes him sleek.
Yeah, can't say I've ever been impressed with the Protectabots. First Aid is really the only one I care about and that's because of the IDW comic.

I was able to pick up an inferno at TJ Max for 5$. Only regret is I haven't found anything else to form with him. I might have to go the ko route. I wish I could support, but like you said they don't make it anymore.
On the wingspan ( and pounce ) I mostly picked them up for my 4 year old who loves transformers ( really good at following directions and not brute forcing ) because we have the g1 versions and hey, can never have too many transformers.

Nice, I did kind of want that one, but the underside of the altmode kept me from going out of my way to get one.
I bought the KO Protectobots too, and Groove is also my least favourite. His comboner is way too tight and his head fell apart and won’t reconnect together. At least he’s just in leg mode most of the time. The moment I get a Rook though, Groove is going in the accessories tub

@@PerspectiveEnd Streetwise has a lot of colour bleed but is otherwise fine. No issues with first aid or Blades, and unfortunately one of hot spot’s thighs is missing the notch needed to hold his thigh in place in combined mode so it just has to stay in place via the power of friction. Overall for about half the price of the official guys at store price, not bad. I might have to get an official hotspot though just for Defensor

I only just started collecting and I want a combiner wars devestator but I was only 10 and my dumb kid brain didn’t even know what combiner wars was. Only combiner wars figure I got was Air Raid. Also he came with a comic book, was that normal because I’ve never seen any reviewer bring up comics in that line?
They did recently rerelease the combiner wars Devestator, like just earlier this year. And there are not the state you can find on eBay, so it's not a lost cause if you want to get one.

perspective trust me those 2 had a thing for each other and unlike what you mentioned about noble and nightscream in your roasting video they both kind of made sense i mean when the mayhem squad was rampaging on cybertron alpha bravo help offroad to recover and both were found by toxitron and when they merged to wreckage both knew the anger and hatred of wreckage so both agreed to get killed alpha bravo killed offroad and alpha bravo was killed by toxitron ( side note: toxitron is nothing like impactor he was just confused by his hatred on the decepticons for using him and he did not want to be a beast since he was found in the sea of rust he was used by shockwave and he was so strong he almost killed jetfire he told impactor that he is questioning his existance and impactor just didin't cared and told him to just joined he didin't cared if toxitron was out of controlled he just wanted to stop mayhem)
The helicopter mold looks like a spaceship. Especially the white one. I mean, what helicopter is so long? This is a spaceship with missiles on the side and a spinny thingy on top.

I made combiner wars prowl not a fo former by removing the backpack car peice then removing the fake chest then sanded the place where the fake chest was connected to then place down the back peice to the front and i used a wire or a pin to connect the neck back into and it turned it into no longer fo forming but looking fat

Man the repaint of Dragstrip makes a more accurate Mirage than the fully devoted Mirage figure. That's sad.
What makes you say that? I think the Mirage is clearly Mirage, even if VERY stylized. At least he's not like Dino from the movies. Who everyone keeps telling me was apparently Mirage.
@@PerspectiveEnd Feet are the spoiler, arms form the sides of the car, and even though it doesn't have the front as the chest at least it isn't a faux part for literally no reason.
No really, Siege Mirage had all the engineering in it to allow the chest to fold up to be part of the vehicle, but they just didn't for no real reason.

So despite featuring him in the thumbnail, you never said your opinion on devastator. I mean from what you have seen, I want your opinion of both the team and devastator without the upgrade kit.
Unless you are gonna make a vid on him for W.T.B(what’s the best for short, really hope you use that acronym one vid) devastator or constructicons. I ask mainly because after eying him for years but unable to get him I missed the original release window and eBay and Amazon sold him at like 300 to 400 usd. And then he was reissued at Amazon at original price, and now he will be arriving in the mail(or at my door because I doubt he will fit in the mailbox) tomorrow on 3/2, and I am stoked. And I have heard the complaint that devastator is to big, but honestly I think most of the combiners are too small, I feel most of the combiners should have been around devastator size. Sorry for the essay long comment but I got a lot to say.
I unfortunately never got my hands on one. I've seen other reviews. Im not all that impressed by what I've seen, but then again I do have what everyone considers the best Devestator on the market, and I am Horrifically unimpressed by that one, and if I could do it again, I'd rather spend the lesser amount on the combiner wars one.
@@PerspectiveEnd I know there are better third party devastators out there, but I also don’t want to spend like 500 dollars or more for a complete set, and while very flawed, it will save me a lot of money to get the combiner wars reissue, I also feel combiner wars will fit nicely in my collection of main line figures, I only go into third party territory if I feel I absolutely have to, like with my insecticons, I got the mmc ones because I feel legends sized insecticons is too small for me. And I have gone on long enough and I don’t know why I write incredibly long comments and I hope it doesn’t bother you.

@@PerspectiveEnd now owning it, and having it in hand, it is Huge, the only figure I have that even compares in size is the studio series devastator. And it is surprisingly stable, and also looks amazing when posed with my other figures like my earthrise hoist and grapple, almost perfect scaling with other figures for me. I should say that I don’t have masterpiece level of standards, so take what I say with a grain of salt
I don't care if he's flawed. I don't care if he's not G1. I don't care if he doesn't fit in with the arial bots.
I will get Alpha Bravo if I decide to get the rest of the arial bots just to spite the people who hate him for not being part of the G1 team and I will give him the love and care he deserves but never got

I have no problems with Alpha Bravo, though I do think it's dumb that once again people put a lot of favor into him just because he was defying the normal order of things.

I think you can combine factions on a combiner, but only if the core component is decepticon. After all, bombshell will do what he does.

never had combiner wars apart from one legends class paraglider decepticon recolor.
so from what I see the entire line is a bunch a pretty meh figures who can combine, also almost all of them are retool of other moulds. fun if you hvae the right team, underwhelming in everything else.
A line for sure propped up by a gimmick, but at least it's a fun Gimmick.
As someone who was there, I can say it was repaint city.
The only combiner I fully completed was bruticas. Most of the figures after wave 2 were repaints.
The devastator was neat,but it doesn’t scale well at all. The new combiners are dumb, sky lynx looks dumb, the prime looks dumb. And I hate what they did the the teams in the comics and show. So in all

Looks shitty. Studio 86 dragged me back into Transformers and the new toys fulfill my decades old desire to have full teams of the first 2 waves. Sadly, core guys are expensive and there are many holes in the lineup.
Combiner wars was not great, but Titans Return was pretty cool.

I skipped this line, it just didn't appeal to me, titans return was kinda good? again the gimmick , it was silly that everyone in the line had it? its a pass for me, i'll save up to collect more Masterpiece. Those two line completely turned me off from further buying anymore Hasbro transformers ......
I hate the Head Master Gimmick my self, but when I gave TR a Try I found that the engineering was actually shockingly good. Some of those TR figures are still amazing right now. And then with Siege we saw a massive uptick in quality and design.
Hasbro can still put out some awesome stuff, sure it's hit or miss but at least the misses come cheap. 3P is awesome, but I got space in my heart to enjoy both.

I always wanted the Unite Warriors Megatronia. I mean her naming convention made no sense. The Combined form should have been Mega Empress, and the leader should have been Megatronia.
