    Quote of the day: absolutely gorgeous 🤣 Where else besides Mood do you shop and find fabrics online?

    The pivot and slide method is a great way to fit. You choose the size based on a different measurement. Nancy Zieman showed the method on her show Sewing With Nancy and it can be found in her fitting books. When I wanted to try out the method, I checked out the books from my local library. After my first successful project, I was convinced and bought the fitting book for my personal library.

    With the big four patterns Always follow the "finished garment measurements" instead of the size measurements. If theyre not on the envelope at the bottom they're usually on a pattern piece inside.
    Also ... ⅝ seam allowance is very forgiving if your sizing down. I always size down on the big four. And ALWAYS check the finished garment measurements on Indie patterns online or the free ones.
    You should also get some sheets at a thrift store or purchase cheap $1/M or yrd fabrics in volume and make a toile' (practice garment) that you can get the sizing correct on before starting the actual project. Then try the practice garment (one size down in your case) on inside out to check the fit. You don't usually have to do this too often. Once you figure out the usual ease on the drafting for the particular pattern brand your using...your good to go for other projects from this pattern design in the future. And just remember ⅝" seam allowance gives you room for extra ease when sizing down because the standard on Indie online patterns is usually ¼"-⅜"... So ⅝"standard for the big four, gives you about an inch+ of ease in many cases.

      Very helpful! Great feedback here, thank you. I did find some beautiful vintage fabric (curtains actually) at my local Goodwill a few weeks ago and practiced sewing those patterns up which really gave me good insight into correct sizing. Such a process of trial and error but so much fun! Thanks so much for leaving such a thoughtful and helpful comment!

    Hi, nice job ! I get a lot of fabric from Fabricmart. There are always hits and misses. Sometimes, I will make a trial with a fabric like an old sheet or fabric scraps for a size check. Before I cut into a special fabric. Best of luck 🪡🧵

    I love buying fabric online. I do not like the selection at JoAnn stores. A lot of online stores show their fabrics being handled, which is very helpful. I like the last piece you showed the best.

      Hi Tammy! I agree with you completely. The videos of how the fabric moves are so helpful. I definitely can see myself making many more purchases online! It really opens up the fabric selection.

    Just found your channel! I’m brand new to sewing and like that you’re somewhat new but ahead of me bc I find the really experienced sewing videos too intimidating. I’m excited to check out mood fabrics. Question regarding your mashup: have you found any patterns with a boat neck style top? That’s the neckline that flatters my body so I’d love to try mashing that up with other bottom patterns. TIA!

      @dineincreativity  Рік тому +1

      Hi Margo! Welcome🌷Glad you are enjoying my channel! Hmm..I can’t think of any boat neck style tops off the top of my head but I definitely recommend you flip through one of the big four pattern books that are typically available at Joann fabrics to see what you can find. There are so many great styles to choose from. Happy sewing to you! 🧵🪡

    You have absolutely beautiful colour sense. Checkout the fold line for Indie patterns. Big four are a pain in the but because there is usually at least an inch and half ease- that’s why they don’t fit well 😖

    • @dineincreativity
      @dineincreativity  Рік тому

      Ahh an inch and a half!! That makes so much sense. I finally sized down with the big 4 but still find myself having to take the pieces in..this is so helpful to know. It's on my list to check out indie patterns for sure. Thank you for the kind words and info! Happy sewing! 🌻

      @@dineincreativity yeah they kind of help us out by always giving a wide fudge factor. Plus a 5/8 seam which is the largest seam allowance. The nice thing is it allows for nice seam finishes. Indie patterns typically use 3/8 and the garments fit! Leaving no room for error. All the suggestions below are 😎 sometimes I just toile the part that must fit the body. I would recommend Thoughtful Creativity she has a video to draft your own bodice. Once that’s done can overlay it to pattern and figure out how well it will fit (minus) seam allowance 😊

    Measure the pattern pieces before cutting and then you will be confident of the size you are cutting.

    work up a muslin prior to cutting the good fabric and alter as needed. it will save you heartache even though it takes some time
