  • Today I'm sharing with you my recent Spring Makes for 2023! I'm sharing what worked, what didn't work out so well, and one remake that I finally decided to tackle. I'm reviewing New Look, Butterick, and Simplicity patterns, whether or not they are good for beginner seamstresses, and some funky fabrics I found at my local fabric store (including a fabric that reminded me of Versace : ). Plus, I'm sharing the trial and error of being a new sewist and deciding to remake a collar in one of my first sews ever! Happy sewing and creating!

Great video. I like that you've included the challenges that you've experienced. The details of the fabrics and where you purchased them are helpful. I'm also impressed with your self drafted make. I've sewn off and on for many years whenever I could squeeze it in. I find it very gratifying. I hope you continue creating pieces and videos.

Hi! Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. There can be so many ups and downs with sewing, I figured, why not just showcase that? ☺️ I agree with you, it is such a gratifying experience. Looking forward to sharing more pieces, currently working on a dress I can’t wait to share (and wear)! Happy sewing! 🧵🪡

Everything looks lovely! Always interesting to watch people whose style and aesthetic is different from my own, generally speaking, to get inspired. I have a few of the patterns you've mentioned and your versions are very pretty. Well done!!

You have a great eye for picking beautiful fabrics! I just got Vogue 1939 to make a blouse for my sis for Christmas. Inspired by a piece of fabric I found a Goodwill. Thanks for all your inspiration!

Did you make the blouse you are wearing in this video? And I agree with you, a square neck is so flattering.

I didn’t make this one-it is a dress I’ve had for awhile 😊 and yes to the square necks, very flattering!

Thank you so much Caroline! And I’m excited for you! Sewing has been so much fun (frustrating at times😆) but I really enjoy it. I too saw that sale at Joann’s this past weekend and also added more patterns to my collection! 🤣 Happy sewing! 🧵🪡

You should take a look at the "emmablouse", it's a free pdf pattern available online. It's super easy and has the flouncy sleeves you like. I changed the neckline on mine and added shirt tails on the front and back in an alternative gingham fabric. It ended up too short for me. Sooooo I improvised to make it longer because I liked the original knit fabric for the top. I figured it was a goner anyway so why not try to fix it.
Turned out to be one of my favorites. Isn't that always the way of mistakes.

Just looked it up! Definitely going to have to try it-along with so many other cute patterns available on there. Never heard of that site but love the styles. Your top sounds awesome! Can definitely relate to the mistake turned favorite or “I like it better now!” experience 🤣 thanks for the pattern rec!

Thank you for your video. Your garments look fabulous. I'm just about to start the Simplicity S9477 top. How did you find it for size?. Im trying to find out if it was true to size, or did you find it quite big? Im between a 12-14 usually, so I'm probably going to do the 14 -16 and take it in if i need to.

Thank you for your kind words! I found it to run a tad big but honestly, it works for this top because it’s meant to be flowy. Flowy always looks pretty especially depending on your fabric choice. Like you said, you may have to take it in a bit to get the fit you like, but I think your plan sounds good! I hope this helps!🧵🪡

your projects do not look like a real beginner made them. I am impressed that you are drafting your own patterns. Try using a tissue paper layer underneath the silky pattern pieces. You tear off the paper after you sew. Also. Hand sewing saves my butt when the machine work just using cutting it. Basting also helpful. Take your time and don’t try to use shortcuts until you have the basics down pat.

All great feedback! Apart from sewing in home ec many years ago and watching my grandmother sew many more years back, I have been surprised and happy with this sewing journey! Frustrating at times but overall so much fun. Thank you for the kind words. Definitely going to try using tissue paper to sew slippery fabric--great idea. 🌻
