Total agree, and love your idea. That is probably the most relevant I.P. to the solarpunk aesthetic. Maybe start out with the waste land as a kind of 'this is a possible dark future, and transition to a recovering world (like in the credits) to not make it so depressing, and end in the solarpunk Tomorrowland to be a kind of 'this is what a bright future can look like, if you make it possible!'

Oooo a retro-themed Tomorrowland would really be interesting, maybe in the vibe of Paris but from the beginning of the Computer Era and the possible future? Go completely into the vibes of computer aesthetics, especially the green/blue motherboards can be timeless (especially since HP and Dell still look like they came from the 90s). A retro-future would be really cool, especially if they focus on computer parts and such. Maybe take inspiration from the Sci-Fi from that period, with either those Garish Colours (Tron OG), sharp edges and glass, or dark but with bold statements. I'd honestly adore something inspired by tech, but it would have to be refitted, not just an overlay. But that's the impossible dream, isn't it. Some bright neon colours with circuits everywhere probably isn't everyone's cup of tea oop-

This has all been said before but i don’t understand how LITERAL DISNEY doesn’t get that the only two ways to make tomorrowland definitively futuristic forever would be either to reference past ideas of the future like 80s retro-future, or steampunk, or *ahem jules verne,* OR you could look at the few aesthetic things and ideas that have always been futuristic like architectural minimalism and unnatural cleanliness, edit: and eco-sustainability

    • @duplexidemic

Something the creative directors of Disneyland wanted to in the 90s was do an "interplanetary showcase" entirely divorced from earth. There was going to be alien gardens, robot employees, alien ran attractions, etc much like an IP-less version of how Galaxy's Edge is now. I think that would of aged very well.

I think an interesting happy medium between OG Tomorrowland and your Solar Punk vision would be the future depicted in Meet the Robinsons! Granted, it takes place in 2037, which would make it outdated fairly soon, but it's bright and bubbly and grassy and already pretty heavily based on Tomorrowland (it's called Todayland, for pete's sake, haha) so you wouldn't have to change many rides to fit the theme.

To build on your Solarpunk ideas, I think most of the stuff in the land should be either electric or solar powered, and most of the food should be plant-based to really drive in the message of sustainability being the future.
Also you could replace the merch store with a store that sells plant terrariums that have models of different rides and lands (and they could charge extra for families to plant their own seeds in the land with a label, so then kids could learn about the importance of the environment, and people could have their own spot of Tomorrowland, because “everyone has a part in creating a better tomorrow TM”)
And instead of the Buzz/ Big Hero 6 ride, I think an original dark ride about Skippy from Alien Encounter escaping like an alien zoo into Tomorrowland (where its green and open and alien friendly!) could tie better into the land (and Skippy would sell a lot more plushies and merch).

Have the Peoplemover track run into a tunnel alongside TRON, recreating the old World of TRON tunnel. Bring the Lightcycle track out of the main building, and run its length farther into Tomorrowland, extending the ride time and utilizing empty space. House the extended track into tunnels with a 2-way mirror effect that would allow the public to see the cycles zipping by, but ensures the riders stay immersed in the experience without looking at the park. This could be enhanced with projections, lighting, and fans like Space Mountain that keeps the illusion of speed in certain areas. The main building would be smaller and free up space for another ride. Just saying.

Here’s a suggestion for your Space Station X2 restaurant idea: Maybe they can have robots deliver your food? Believe it or not, they have those at Hof’s Hut, and that’s just something a restaurant of the future needs!

I know this video is about Disneyland Tomorrowland but in WDW case if they just made all of Tomorrowland look like Tron, then I think they would be able to future proof the land forever

What would REALLY tie all of this together (other than a rug) is if you developed a storyline to encompass ALL the attractions that you mentioned so that the land feels more cohesive. Maybe it is a future member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, and all of the ride are different planets or encounters they faced on their journey. It needs a slight push from our journey into the future and take more of a fantasy/whimsical vision of the future that is rooted in reality...slightly. Well done

I really love all of this! I'm a huge fan of steampunk, solarpunk stuff so I can see this! It really harkens back to those older, future vibes of Walts vision and also giving it all the needed future vibes, while being good for the planet, which in turn is actively making a better future for everyone! This was so well thought out and amazing. Great job!

The “Solarpunk” aesthetic definitely reminds me of futuristic 70s sci-fi films, namely “Silent Running.” I think it’s the only way to go with Tomorrowland and I’m surprised they haven’t done some sort of retrofuturistic remodel by now.

For a dark ride I would do a track less version of Horizons from Epcot. Horizons was considered a sequel to Carousel of Progress and this new ride would be a sequel to Horizons. This would bring back a CoP to Disneyland while also taking it into the future.

If you are keeping the existing space Mountain building, you still have the tunnels for the Peoplemover, or retrofit it to support the Tron coaster passing through to extend the track. Still need a shop like Starcade, because Disney has to sell merch. Oh, and Skyway, gotta bring back a Skyway type ride!

I'm soo late on commenting and perhaps it will be future generations that will see my post but here goes. Thank you for this insightful and well thought out reimagining of tomorrow land. In the 70s when I was a kid, I loved imagining how we would live in the future. Back then everything was brand new, highways, Disney World and shopping malls. Then came the microwave wow, we are living in the future. I did a model of a modern house of the future and as an 7 year old, i modeled what I could find to use. I remember taking a sponge painting it white and sticking furniture tac's into the side and then took yarn and weaved a pattern around each tac. In my presentation I called this a machine that made our clothes. As we see on the jetsons for example anything can be giving a ridiculous futuristic spin. I never had the opportunity to visit the Monsanto house of the future, but I would imagine that it too had futuristic fluffery on display. This is what I wish they would bring back. An ohmage to what we thought could be and what we thought was already in development. I love floor plans and models and i can spend hours looking at the detail. I've seen in pictures the models they build for new parks, why couldn't we make one that is interactive, futuristic (perhaps modeled after Tomorow land itself), and incorporate 50 visitor workstations so that each programed action would not interfere with someone else's. I'm talking more than just a locomotive layout, perhaps building lighting a fog machine that blows air current through the wind turbines and How cool would that be, retractable roofs, rockets blast off and so on. This leads back to the idea of hands on, which after working in a children's museum I would not recommend only if the kids only had access to buttons and not the models themselves.

As much as I love the idea for a fun Tomorrowland Lagoon, I still 100% stand by that the space from both that and Autopia should be sacrificed to FanLand for an expansion, a la MK (or rather, whatever France and Tokyo have going on). If anything, it could play into the whole idea of TL anyway: living together and with the land instead of spreading out and destroying it. Win-win!

Turn Start Trader into Tomorrowland Trade Port. Sell cool little gadgets and toys, "imports" from other lands, and its own merch, and turn the Star-Cade into something more virtual reality or a playspace with overhead projectors that are interactive so parents can go tucker out their little ones.

  • @bk6605
    @bk6605 2 роки тому

Bravo. I like it. I would suggest a virtual reality dark ride of some kind. Since that is a future tech right now. Maybe flying car or jet pack simulator attraction. And a ride that would take you via a ramjet or scramjet to the edge of space and allow you a brief visit to another Disney property's gift shop before returning to Disneyland. Or a Star Trek style transporter that by your choice send you to “Disney World” or “Disney Shanghai” etc.

Disney should consider the motor bike coaster that is on the Mardi Gras Carnival Cruise Ship to replace the People Mover or Autopia in Tomorrowland. Disnay can lay these tracks all throughout Tomorrowland. This new attraction along with that newer exterior for Space Mountain and completing it all with the Tron Coaster. The original Disneyland will have a top notch Tomorrowland.

Excellent! Exactly what I've been thinking for years. We need this! We demand this! Keep Space Mountain, keep Monorail. Bring back the People Movers, that will settle everyone down, (I'm a huge fan too). Bulldoze the rest. I also like the white and green Solar Punk idea too. I think it looks great. I also like that you're channeling Walt. Trons a must, don't know much about Big Hero 6, but the ride sounds good. I like the restaurant idea too. We're going to catch Flac over Autopia but I agree we need the space. Now we just have to sell it to Disney.

An idea: run the whole land’s electricity by harvesting piezo-electric energy. Think about it: how many tens of thousands of steps are taken every minute the park is open? If placing piezo-electric pedals every five or ten feet across the pathways is too much, then maybe concentrate them around the entrances to attractions. Set up a dance floor and let that be a pedal-rich environment, and tell people they’re helping to run the land by dancing! Or dedicate a terrace to a floor that makes music and lights up at every step. Fun with physics!

Suggestion for the Starcade: remember that weird old one-off arcade at the exit of Pirates with games designed and built by imagineers?
That. Do that. But with today's tech. Some screen-based games, but also some practical stuff and, of course, some VR. Make it a showcase for imagineers' game/ride/show prototypes, constantly evolving, with installations swapped out every 6 to 24 months. Popular attractions could become full-scale productions elsewhere in the land (maybe that extra Autopia space). That would make the Starcade potentially the most futuristic (and future-proof) attraction in the land. Just a thought.

Make the Pizza Planet an actual Pizza Planet from Toy Story. Put the robots at the gate, add in all those cool ticket games (chest burster wack-a-mole, the claw) and turn it into more of a chuck e cheese kind of place. Bonus, you could hide Buzz and Woody anamatronics all over the restaurant in the nooks and crannies. I have dreamed about this place ever since watching the movie back in the 90s.

My thoughts on Star-Trade is that we would have to make it Toy Story themed since Astro Blasters is gone and by that point we’d only have Woody style attractions, I’d say just move the Star Command store to that spot but change the color scheme so it fits in with the rest of Tomorrowland. (This also gives the Big Hero Six ride a little more room.)
My idea for Star-Cade is based on how they did an exhibition for Brad Bird’s tomorrow land, probably something that documents the history of Tomorrowland over the years, so at the very least it shows how far we’ve come from the original 1979 version.
For the rest of Autopia, I’d put a Wall-E ride since the movie’s themes fit so well with the aesthetic of this Tomorrowland. I don’t know if it would be a coaster or a dark ride or a simple walk through but what I do know is that Wall-E NEEDS to be here.
I noticed the Tomorrowland Theater wasn’t mentioned so I’m gonna throw a more “out there” idea for it: each day it plays a different Disney and Pixar sci-fi movie including “Captain EO” and “Honey I Shrunk the Audience”. I imagine it serves a similar purpose to the PeopleMover, I.E. an attraction for people to go on if it’s too crowded.
My final idea is a thing involving Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland movie (Since the Tomorrowland in the movie is also kind of solar punk) that’s kind of like the Phineas and Ferb/Kim Possible spy hunt thing where putting a Tomorrowland pin/Magic Band in a specially marked spot would cause something to happen. This includes opening a door that houses a Tomorrowland version of the society of adventurers (Probably called “The Sculptors of the Future” or something). The room would probably be a treat to fans as well as a place just to chill out in.
