Great first look at the Arturia Mellotron V! I loved the sound demos and how you explained the features in detail. Can't wait to try it out myself. Thanks for the awesome video!
I have the free UVI Mello, sounds also great and no need for the Arturia-one when you just want the Mellotron. But here you can change and tweak more and that makes it interesting. Everytime I hear this Mellotron-sounds, I think of old italian zombie movies like Voodoo/Zombi 2.
i had them all, but this one nailed it!!! there is no better plugin. might be my fav pligin ever. and i am a modular guy. i record sound from this into my morphagene and everything i pick sounds and they all sound fantastic!
At 11:26 and a bit beyond, what I hear is an octave, but what I see on the keys is NOT an octave. Why is that? Please answer. I am considering buying this software to add to my Arturia collection and that doesn't make sense. Was the original Mellotron set up so that hitting a D and A produce the same note???
I can’t wait to play with this, I picked it up last night because it’s on sale for existing collection 6 owners. I love that you can add your own wave file and tune them as mellotron sounds. Very cool tool!
I prefer the G-Force M-Tron Pro. Arturia have failed to understand what recreating a vintage machine is about. For starters, the 8 second tape limit defines the way the machine is played. If I wanted a shitty sampler, I'd have bought a Fairlight.
@@photonoasis664 My Mellotron is a current M4000D model. A beautiful thing which fills me with joy. You want to hear how awesome it is, listen to the stuff on my channel.
Das schaut doch sehr vielversprechend aus! Besitze bereits das geniale M-Tron Pro von GForce was ich immer wieder gerne für meine Tracks einsetze. Mellotron ist zeitloser Zeitgeist!
good spot..!! that echoes is spot on.!! If i recall.. thats a piano hitting a tape delay on the original, so essentially.. the same is goin on here! sounds awesome!
Does it recreate the random pops and clicks in the mellotron's attacks and the unstablility of the speed, or is it just another mellotron sample player with added FX ?
hierbei handelt es sich um eine komplette Engine wo man selbst Samples einladen kann und zu eignen Mellotron Sounds designen kann, keine reines Sample Library Instrument wie Refills oder so ;)
So wait, the original mellotron worked by having samples of every note recorded on every length of tape... does Mellotron V only have 1 sample per track that it then pitch shifts?
thanks for your comment. Both are great instruments but you must know both are different. Arturia has a Mellotron engine with which you can load in your own samples and transform them in these types of sounds. The SampleTron or M-Tron Pro however uses only samples or is basically a rompler.
Since the last 20 years, one has seen various Mellotron re-incarnations, re-hashed samples and loads of emulations of the much revered piece of equipment. However, thats the business of Hauntology. The business of retro-futures. These synths are regressive, offering nothing new but marketing gimmicks and old staple technology. Emulations for haunted folks who desire something from the past, with aspirations for some future which may never arrive.
@Open Window Not really. A piano, violin, sitar, guitar etc is real and has a tangible value. Also is bound by traditions and knowledge. Unlike these rehashed, haunted copies of some by-gone era. Folks who worship such technology are what Jaques Derrida explained in his essays titled Hauntology. Learn a real instrument instead of wasting time buying crap software perhaps.
@@Charlesbabbage2209 Sadly he is dead. Gladly he left behind a good legacy to read and understand, mass culture, retro-fetish and hauntology. Mellotron or Killaton, most brands are here to encash and not progress.
@Open Window My point is not about any hardware or software base, nor about which is better or authentic. That is best left to the realm of nerds, because popular music does not care one way or another. Who's "we" as you claim we disagree,? What i said is based on facts. Most synth brands, use retro-charm and fetish to grab your attention .. It is product of hauntology used to market their products. Many even do it without realising, because the retro-rat-race has been on for almost 10 years now. From Mellotron to the most obscure soviet synth has been rehashed. It was not the case in the 80s or 70s or even 60s - because there was no prior culture of synthesis or electronic sounds. Now however we have to do with retro-fabricated, rehashed and haunted remake of synths, to feel all good and quality. Hope you understand the cultural reasons behind the economics. Your actually close-minded, almost religious to use branded goods and feel good about it. Carry On! Lets keep hearing and making the music in any case..

Thanks very much, beautiful sounds of the 70's.
One of the most beautiful sounds I ever heard were generated by this beautiful machine.
That vintage piano sound is amazing

Mellotron is legendary
So much character. Inspired already.
Sounds sweet like early Tangerine Dream.
The soundtrack to my childhood in a plugin
I am here for this here for Mellotron also now.
Say what now?
Very interesting choice of words.
Does this have any of the preset looped grooves found on the original hardware?

I wish the UVI Mello still had a free version available
Based on the what I’m hearing here I feel this is a slightly more realistic sound than the M Tron Pro. This sounds slightly grittier and organic.

How much was your upgrade price?
It was 199.00.
I want to hear king crimson now!
I got this after a Crimson concert in Fla. haha But this is my fav instrument, next to the marimba, love this software.
This is really gonna be a choice catalyst for the future of music..
I won't lie, the Redtron samples sound better to me. Arturia took away the wonderful resonancy edginess at first listen.
Listen here to an original one: ua-cam.com/video/N07-YAKtRAw/v-deo.html
(ignore the dumbhead in the black shirt....)
Agree.
Just take the effects off. It will sound like the original

great video - thank you
I have a Mellotron but I need this. Great job! 👏👏
Not saying this to be funny, but it still works?
I ask cause the original article was notoriously prone to failures, right?

@@synthanatomy I wouldn't tell a soul
Why does this app limit the duration of a note to the same 8 seconds as a real Mellotron? There are no tapes to run out.
If it’s based on the original tapes, that’s how long the samples are.
@@BullyMaguire4ever I ended up buying a Mellotron 4000D.
Will this work in ProTools As an instrument
yes as an AAX plugin

It does the instability pretty well
Yeah. Halfway through a gig a tape randomly snaps.
I like it!
Does Mellotron V read sf2 soundfont files - or sfz?
nope only classic .wav files
@@synthanatomy Thanks for the quick reply.
Probably because you can only load three samples
9.45 v mellotron: strawberry fields
are all the editions worth the $199 upgrade price?
Depends on your taste. If you are upgading arturia usually has upgrade specials for 99$.
@@highthai7 Their upgrade price is $199. Seems pretty steep.
@@gatorgoforth3097 yes it USUALLY is 199$.
No. The CZ is crap, the NI FM8 walks all over their DX7 and this Mellotron is a pale comparison of the MTron Pro
