Good comparison. Each brand has their own characteristic. Even the cheap 7artisans can work great in certain type of shoot. Here is a tip on which intensity to choose. In Commercial/Film production we use different intensity for different focal length. Example, 18mm-35mm = 1/2, 35mm-85mm = 1/4 and 85mm higher = 1/8. And it depends on your likings too, the intensity could be higher or lower but the general idea is the wider the lens the higher the filter intensity. Good content! Keep creating!

Man! this review was soooo good! I think I'll give the 1/8 Haida a try, looks a bit more vintage to my eyes. And yes, you made the color cast of each one much distinguishable. Nice job, really.

Excellent comparison! I’m currently using the Tiffen Glimmerglass 1, and though it’s nice, you barely notice it unless there’s lights directly facing the camera. I like the Haida ¼, and will pick it up for the more dreamy, and artsy shots.
Been trying to get my hands on the glimmerglass! How long have you had it? I'm thinking it would be a great addition to my kit
@@VictorLaforteza I’ve had it for 3 months, and have used it for both work, and personal projects. It doesn’t smoothen things out like a mist filter, so sharpness is very apparent with sharper lenses, and it definitely doesn’t bloom like a mist filter. If the lens is facing the right spot, then you will see blooming highlights, with reduced contrast and saturation.

Fantastic content, as a photographer who's just started to play with filters, I'll probably try out the 7artisans as it looks like for the price point, it does hold up quite well.

Absolutely fantastic video! Only thing that I would have liked to see added to the comparisons would have been the K&F Black Mist 1/8th and 1/4th, because their price has me leaning towards them over the Tiffen. Any advice on how well the K&F's stack up against the Tiffens? PS - Just subscribe :)
I've heard that the K&Fs are somewhere between haida and 7artisans. Not sure if there are any colour casts but it should be easy to fix in post. All in all I think most pro mists are good but if you need consistency, the tiffen wins.
Can you do a review on the NEWEER filters? Such as the VND, Black Mist, even the mattebox filters? I feel like nobody talks about these gems, and they are amazing products that are relatively cheap.
Pretty convinced for Tiffen but not sure if I want 1/4 or 1/8th still!! Worried 1/8th won’t give me enough of the affect to justify. Great video as always thanks!!
Thanks Erick! I find myself switching between them a lot of times depending on the scenes but it’s totally normal to prefer one to the other. Some people like 1/4 more and some like 1/8 more! It’s hard to decide 😅😅😅

I have a tiffen 1/8 mounted in my lenses and for most part it stays there.
Hey Victor, love your work. Is it possible to add an ND filter onto of the pro mist filter?
Yup!! mist first and then ND last. Just be careful though it can produce ghosting for certain scenes!!
@VictorLaforteza I'm confused.First mounted on the lens is ND filter and in front of it the black mist filter?
Do they change the tint of the lens ?Or they are 100% neutral ?For me is very important the color reproduction,for example my ND or my Polarizer have slightly different tint,which i do not like.
They’re not 100% neutral. You can check out the samples. I did not change the WB / Tint on it so you can see the slight difference.

Tiffen 1/4 stood out more for the effect it was after, but the touch / subtlety and necessary tweak for any shot is the Tiffen 1/8.

nah, It's a mix of the sun being brighter (was tough with sunset light changes quick in camera) and the focus shifted.

It's a total waste of money to buy these filters because you can reproduce the same effects in your video apps like Premiere Pro and After Effects. The results are exactly the same, and since you do all the manipulations on an adjustment layer, you can have the best of both worlds by keeping your video without and with the Pro Mist effect.
That’s correct but I wouldn’t go as far as total waste of money. Sometimes efficiency can be accounted for. If you add the effect on all your footage, your render times will be longer especially if one person doesn’t have a super fast computer. If you use a filter and just do basic grades, you can easily deliver the product without worrying about the export render slowing down. Also imagine doing a few revisions and you’d have to export multiple times, that time adds up. There’s pros and cons to everything. But if time isn’t an issue, I could totally see where you’re coming from. Flexibility in post is definitely a powerful thing.

It's actually similar but not the same. I did a test myself. How would you get the bloom from light sources out of the frame in post for instance?
Also less post processing is more quality of life if you ask me
