an interesting thought experiment is that you used generally different strengths for each filter. It would be interesting to compare with the same "strengths" and see how that changes your thoughts.. for me, I really enjoy the cinebloom when I call for it- it's primarily called on when I really want to just have "a look".. obviously exaggerated, but it gets a look. Great for music videos. but any other time, I'd LOVE to have the glimmer glass and black satin, they did indeed look nice.
This is the first time I’ve ever guessed correctly each time in one of these kind of videos. I think the Tiffen filters have the most natural look and it’s very noticeable.
I use the glimmerglass 1/2 for daytime. Gives a subtle diffusion and halation, good for all situations. And I use moment cinebloom 10% for nighttime. Just gives a better look to nighttime light sources than the glimmerglass. For really distinct dream like effects, I use the prism lens fx dream 1 filter. If I want a smokey haze effect, I use the smoque 2 and combine it with glimmer glass 1/2 to still give a subtle halation to light sources.
Appreciate the comparison but these are so close it's a great example of how easy it is to get hung up on gear. Like of you shot a film with any of these I wouldn't say it was bad
Your clips for the glimmer glass change. At 5.16 the glimmer glass is the more desaturated shot but at 5.38 its the more saturated shot. Do you know which is the mistake?
It would have been interesting to see the 1/2 Glinmerglass compared with the 1/2 Black Satin-from a contrast and smoothing perspective. I’ve heard a few people saw Black Satin bakes in grain? Have you noticed this?
Thank you so much for the time to make this review, it was the best comparison I've seen so far with great points on each filter's strong and weak points. Keep up the fantastic work! :-)
awesome comparison. Just wanted to add that each lens also reacts differently to each filter. In terms of colorshift these values wont change but other stuff might.
Yeah that’s true man. I actually forgot to add the lens information for each of the tests but will pin that comment now. But you’re correct man, thanks for the comment
Tiffens promist looks so good. Its than Cine Look. No wondern, on every arri, red or bmpcc, even a fx3 is a Blackpromist 1/4. Absolutly normal that we see the cine look in that.
This is such a good video. I have a Sony A5100 (oldie but a goodie) and I often wonder what filters to use. Can I get these kinds of filters for a Sony Mirrorless lens?
Do you have any thoughts about the cheap alternatives? like the DIY diffusion filter, specifically the hairspray and a uv filter? hoping you will answer this or make a video of it. thankss
I was a bit confused watching another UA-cam test comparing the different Black Satin filters and it almost looked like the 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 had the same or more softening as the "Black Satin 1". I was considering buying the Black Satin 1 for my go-to minimal softening effect filter but now not sure. Your thoughts? I want minimal diffusion as possible and if I want more diffusion for a more obvious "look", I'd add that in post. I will be using this filter for all footage taken with my iPhone 14pro because over-sharpening is baked into the footage.
You are absolutely right JC. Black Satin 1/2 for the win, 2nd choice BPM 1/8. The Black Satin absolutely has the highest degree of control as it doesn't flare out the shadows as much. I sure wish tiffen made a grade step between 1/8 and 1/4 BPM.
Here's a question that every time I find a video that talks about the fusion filters no matter if it's for video or stills I have yet to find someone to answer this question correctly as I've used many diffusion filters I need to know what do everyone else do to control flaring one of the coolest things about the fusion filters is how they bloom the light which I think is awesome but it also gives a lot more flaring and some situations so I wanted to know what do other people do to keep the flaring down to control it to maybe even eliminate it.
I appreciate that a lot, thank you. And as you were the first with the emoji comment... Congrats on winning the giveaway! Let me know your instagram so I can grab your details🤟🏾
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The lenses used:
- First test and third test - Sigma 35mm F1.4
- Second test - Tamron 35-150mm F2.-2.8 (85mm)
Excellent comparison! I especially liked that you showed the results anonymously before biasing the viewer with the product names.

Very well done . I’ve owned the black promist 1.8 I’m thinking of trying glimmer glass
BLACK SATIN 1/4 STAYS ON MY CAM
Appreciate the comparison but these are so close it's a great example of how easy it is to get hung up on gear. Like of you shot a film with any of these I wouldn't say it was bad
Definitely the Black Satin 1/2 👍🏻
As cinebloom user I can recognise it really fast, it's the one who fks up the entire image lol

Curious to know if anyone have idea what diffusion filter used in Stephen Spielberg's The Fabelmans.

Great test! My no 1 in all rounds was Glimmerglass 1. Do mostly still photography.
Searching for reviews of diffusion filters I came across your channel. Great video you have a new subscriber.
I picked Glimmerglass 1 as my blind pick each time... although I really like the Black Satin 1/8... I guess I know what I need to do! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for the time to make this review, it was the best comparison I've seen so far with great points on each filter's strong and weak points. Keep up the fantastic work! :-)
Glad it was helpful!
I think u need all depending on the time and climate of the day.
I agree with your test. The satin and glimmer glass look good
This is just i looking for... Black mist 1/8 one more subscribe!
Thank for the review. I like Glimmerglass and BlackSatin 1/2. Probably will go for the BS because of the slightly better contrast.
awesome comparison.
Just wanted to add that each lens also reacts differently to each filter.

Excellent comparison... and you are incredibly likeable! Please keep making youtube content.
Your my hero!
bro.... THANKS! If you had the option I would donate a couple bucks. Great video

Thank you so much for this! I picked black satin every time, solidifying my decision to purchase. Appreciate the high quality side by sides!

Interesting another UA-camr I follow did a comparison with Glimmer glass and Satin, and he said Satin gives a slight green shift.
Appreciate you putting the time into these filters. Seems no significant differences. Massive help that is to know. Keep up the great work.
Great comparison, but the tests moved too quick for me. Side note: great presentation voice. Defo subscribe.
You sir are one of my favorite African American photographers

What filter do you recommend for wedding Photography?
Great video and breakdown!
Thank you!
If you want to buy the black satin , which degree is the most worthwhile?
In your previous test I thought Tiffen Black Pro Mist did the best with diffusion and contrast retention.. Cinebloom was/is more than I want.
Sweet vid!
Great comparison, perfect executed.
Very helpful, thanks! 🌸😊💜
Crazy good comparison
1/8 for me
I hadn’t realized it on first watch but in the first two sections of this video, the warmth is distinct between filters. Great video!

I use the glimmer glass 1/8 for real estate

That's definitely something I will look into, thanks for bringing it to attention
When I am doing a couples shoot. Photography wise. I either take it off when shooting directly into the sun or add a lens hood / my hand :)
Great video!! loved this tests. Very useful! Thank you mate
Glad you liked it!

@@JusttJC Anytime man! I'll send you a DM!
Realised I can't DM you haha, @louiswello
Please stop using wide lens for talking. use some 50+ mm
why…?
The amount of diffusion changes when you change focal lenght.
