Just recieved our r34 after having watched all your videos while waiting.. When i turned the car on i saw the aircon controller cycling through the time and was like.. " I know how to fix thatm" My son was most impressed... Thankyou so much. Now... to find the gearbox flush video...
Awesome vid mate. My R34's clock has been doing the exact same thing like yours for a couple of years now and haven't bothered to fix it. Then all of a sudden my AC has been playing up recently and I stubbled across your vid and I changed out those tactile switches to the same Jay Car ones and it now works :) Thanks! Nice to see another local from Perth working on R34's. Let me know if you need to know anything about the RB :)
Hey Johno - thanks watching man and glad it's help you fixed yours. Hoping to get this thing looking decent enough for cars and coffee so might see you around.
Check your battery as my r34 clock was running up till my battery finally died and once I changed it the clock has been spot on. So might be a indicator that your battery is on its way out mate
Battery is pretty good on this one, I'm pretty confident it was the buttons as removing them fixed the problem instantly and I've had no issues whatsoever since. Thanks for the tip tho - might help others.
Great video. I had already watched before we bought our R34. When we got out and found it had the issue I know just where to go. Question . Did you come up with a solution for the buttons that were coming off?
Glad it helped. For the buttons, the only solution was to replace them - you can still get some of the buttons new from Nissan (use Amayama to order) but it's the luck of the draw as to whether your broken buttons are still stocked or not i guess.
Great step by step by step tutorial. It’s hard to find videos like this one. What model of double din radio from Pioneer is that? Looks really good, and does it come with the harness for factory plug and play? Does it also come with the out side frame to cover the gap? Thank you in advance.
Sorry mate have been taking a break - frame gap cover i had to buy separately, not too expensive. Definitely not plug and play although you can buy adaptors. I didn't as someone had already cut my loom for the old head unit - model number on the head unit is DMH-Z6350BT
Just got a used climate control unit and the backlight comes on but the display itself doesnt show anything. if you tilt the unit at a certain angle you can kinda see something. Wondering if you have seen this or know if this can be fixed?
Hello. I have a similar situation where the both the hour and minutes keep increasing and all the climate control buttons wont do anything. Would you assume this is the same situation?
Time going up continuously does usually indicate that the time buttons are "always on" - that's the basic issue with the controller because it can only read one input at a time, so when the time button is always on increase it can't tell when you hit the other controllers. Good chance it's your issue.
@@TheBuildRoom following up on this. My issue is exactly what you show in this video. I ended up just desoldering both time buttons and the climate control reacted immediately. You saved me a ton of money since these climate controls are super expensive now. Thank you!!
Just bought them from eBay although they weren't the best quality/fit - have a search on Facebook R34 forums - there are bunch of people that sell full kits that are confirmed to fit so if I was doing it again that's what I'd do.
The bulbs on the lcd backlight come on with ignition power, not with the parking lights like the buttons do, you may want to try your led globes again they were probably fine. I have the same type of leds in my buttons and lcd.
Yeah i did try all of that, only realised after I released the video that I didn't show the right section in the vid. The small ones definitely didn't work but I think that may actually have been because they were too tight and didn't touch the board contacts once wedged in there. I have some new style ones on order.
@@TheBuildRoom did you get the lcd light up with the new led lights? Do you possible remember what type of lighs did you get for the lcd? I need brighter ones for my car. Thank you.
@@makaveliba4243 it's not pink in person, the blue backlights mixed with the lcd give it a little purple hue on camera but in person it's just a clean blue.
Great vid! With these cars getting older and more stuff being unfixable i hope some genius is able to design and sell a swap in unit that uses a raspberry pi or similar
Thanks, hope it helps. Luckily i think these ones are just at the point before everything got hard with Canbus, so just a case of swapping out failed components on these ones. Feels like this sorta stuff will be much harder on newer cars when the time comes.
Mine are just plastic, not wrapped or genuine CF. Are you looking to see how to get them off to wrap them or looking to see how to get the aftermarket ones to fit?
Im not mechanically minded at all. Do you think a mechanic/auto electrician would do this or theyd sting me for a new unit thats a ticking timebomb also. Trying to sell my r34 but the aircon not working in summer is a big con.
Can't get new one so no way will they hit you for that, I think if you took it to a auto elec they could probably do it pretty easy. Really easy fix just show them the video ;)
The LCD globes are driven by a current amplifier to control the load, and seemed to run around 5V to bias the amplifier correctly. If the LED globes you bought were meant for 12V, the amplifier won't turn on. You could try something smaller (3V), but to do it properly you'd also want to consider changing some resistor values on board.
Hmmm that sounds like it might explain a lot - next time i have it out i'll try some different options. I'll measure the voltage with 2/3 of the globes in then if they're actually 5v i'll try to source some of them. Cheers for the tips. 👍
@@TheBuildRoom keen to hear how it goes. I started repairing these units just before you posted this video, so when i get my hands on another I'll see if i can recommend a particular type of globe.
Lol - it was quality work - thankfully i think I've almost replaced all the other work that was done. Gonna have to paint the front end i think too - its embarrassing.

Do you happen to know where to buy the defrost button? I can find all buttons except that one.
Maybe I missed it but what are the 6 bulbs? T3/ T4?
Very well articulated video mate. Subbed 👍🏼
Thanks, and welcome aboard!
Did you figure out why the display led didn’t work?

Hi witch led bulbs do you use for the buttons on the climate control please

Where did you buy the leds?
Just off eBay - they weren't anything special - if you check the skyline facebook groups there a few people that sell full kits.
@@TheBuildRoom great! Think my GTT will need them! 😊
Question where did you get the silver frame?
It's a stock one I cut to fit the head unit then painted.
@@TheBuildRoomalso mind me asking how your LCD is pink?

Do you have a part number for the new switches and LED lights?
Yep - 19:54 and 27:24 - globes is the type not a part number as they were just cheapies off eBay so didn't have meaningful part numbers.
Great tutorial, ive got bulbs on the way to sort mine🙂
Good luck with it - let me know how you go with the LCD globes 👍
anyone got a park number or link for a whole climate control unit
I don't think they're available anymore - if you go to amayama you can see all the part numbers

Anyone with the part number on the aircon vents?
68750-AA100
