For years I used wood glue mixed into a loose paste with clean sawdust, CA glue is my go to now because it is so simple. Another great video, thanks! Have a greatly blessed day.
Hey Matt, great video, as usual. A good tip for filling those cracks I saw in the woodworking community (don't remember who) is to put a shop vac on the underside of the board after you apply the glue (before the accelerator) to draw the glue all the way through the wood. It works great. Keep up the good work!
While I haven't tried it yet, I saw where one guy used his shop vac on backside of board to "pull" the glue into the crack. Looks like it should work. Great video. Am glad I found you (not that your were lost, lol). I love all of your suggestions/advice and plan on using them extensively. Thanks for all you do.
The seat of a rocking chair that has been in my family for many, many years has split. I've tried many things on the top surface but nothing has worked. I finally had to fasten the two split pieces together on the underneath side. I wish I had known about this product 2 years ago! Thanks for showing how it works.
This is a great way to revive wood we have in storage! After a couple of years subjected to the variation in temp and humidity. This could be a good way to reclaim lumber that could be thrown out!
Hey Matt, CA works well when gluing small pieces and you don't want to nail or screw. A drop of CA on one or two spots and wood glue on the rest and shoot the accelerator on the adjoining piece, the CA will bond and hold until the wood glue dries.
Just thought you might like this tip for thin cracks. I sometimes us a vacuum on the underside to suck the glue deep in to the crack, this also works with normal wood glue. Cheers from Australia.
CA glue is great for all things you mentioned, but another good tip for you is you can use it as a “clamp” too. Add wood glue to whatever piece but put a couple of drops of CA glue in there. It will hold your piece (if small enough common sense applies to this method) while you can move on about your project until the wood glue dries and adds the proper strength. Hope that helps. I use that method when building dice towers.
IMO those so-called "imperfections"/knotholes/cracks gives wood character. I recently used Black CA glue (without the accelerator) on a project. After gently filling the cracks with Black CA, I placed gold flakes as an inlay. When the glue dried, I used a soft paint brush to brush away any of the gold flakes that did not adhered to the glue. I'm definately not an artistic person but when I finished, the black CA glue really made the gold flakes stand out.
Super glue ( aka CA glue) has always been my best friend with wood working. Especially for smaller projects. Like in a miter joint. It drys faster than wood glue, so you have to test fit your pieces first and be absolutely sure that you are ready to put the two pieces together. I have also heard that you can use a light spray of isopropyl alcohol to use as an accelerant to dry CA glue. I'm actually getting ready to test this out.
@@marydurbrow8722 not on some super glue it doesn't. I have also heard that people who repair cracks or chips on vehicles that are mainly made out of carbon fiber ( and fused together with epoxy resin)...they will use baking soda to make CA glue to cure really fast.
Great video as always Matt, love these quick/informative videos but really miss your furniture making idea vids....but either way just keep on kicking out the great videos 👊😉👍
Starbond looks like great stuff and is fairly inexpensive. I recently had cause to use epoxy though. I did some research. They say CA clue has a low shear resistance, whereas epoxy has very high shear resistance. That was important when I attached wood knobs to 1/2 inch steel rod. Epoxy is also better for filling very large holes. You can even put stuff into it or dye it. It does take longer to set up. There is a place in your heart for both CA glue and epoxy. Different stuff for different stuff.
@@731Woodworks More epoxy info. You can get large quantities of epoxy relatively cheaply. I'm talking quarts or gallons. It is used for bar tops and other things. You can even cast shapes or create "river" table tops where you fill a large gap on a live edge slap with resin which looks like a river. See Evan and Katelyn, who use Total Boat. It can also be dyed and the dies or pigments as they are called, are $15 to $20 and you get about 20 colors. The world of epoxy resin is a whole nother world! Not sure if you or your viewers would want to venture into it, but you could fill larger holes and do creative things with it. Just an idea. CA glue is cool though and is really fast. I like the brown that you use.

I did a video a couple years ago about using rubbing alcohol as an alternative CA glue accelerator. Its a lot cheaper than commercial accelerator and tends to work pretty well with any regular ol' super glue but I've never used it on the specific product you're demonstrating here, but id be curious If isopropyl alcohol would work on it as well or if maybe because of it being pigmented, would somehow prevent it from working in some way. I may need to do some further experimenting. Great video as always though brother. You're never anything but a class act my dude. Keep up the good work. Take care!
Great video and I appreciate your time sharing, although I would like to ask if you had much luck using it after doing some Shou sugi ban work. Like brad holes that some of the torch work burn out ?
Use ca glue aka super glue with baking soda and it forms a interesting waterproof material that's as strong or stronger than carbon fiber. Also you can make your own accelerating spray with a spray bottle from dollar tree distilled water and 2 table spoons of baking soda . Any super glue is CA glue. Buy 1 to 3 second dry if you need a quick hold. If you dont them purposely buy the 30 second dry time which ever is cheapest. If you need thick filler glue then just add talcum powder til it's as thick as you want as well as any dye for color. Spray with your homemade accelerator and your good. No need to buy expensive ca glue. You can get 25kilos of it from over seas for 20 bucks
Hey Matt love the videos and very informative. Have you done a butcher block or cutting board video? What type of wood would you suggest if you have? Very helpful thanks what do you think of gorilla wood glue. I use that on all my wood projects when I put two pieces together with pocket holes as well and it's super strong. Thanks
Wondering out loud if using CA Glue instead of plastic wood would be easier to fill screw holes on flat surfaces? Obviously not as easy to fill holes that the glue can't stand up in but in some cases maybe it would be preferred?

Not sure about super glue but CA glue can dry near instantly with the accelerator. Wood glue I think is stronger at bonding wood together.
