Chris - the thing I like about your channel is that the tips you offer are ones that I end up using most often because they are so simple and practical! Thanks for generously sharing this knowledge with us!
I remembered this video from a year or so ago and searched it out when it came time for me to purchase CA products. Evergreen content, Chris, and it's always useful!
I love the corner bracket idea. I've had the same issue in my shop and just ignored until now. Because I had no idea how to fix it. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for sharing and your editing time for us. I just ordered my supply of Starbond and I know it will come in handy on the menacing cracks that show up just when you're ready to apply your finish! Peace be with you!
Many thanks for always thinking of possibilities. The ideas might not be used today or tomorrow, but they should be stored in our memory for future use. I hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks to your videos I just bought CA glue. Got the 3 pack deal and used thin building a plexiglas 3 drawer holder that fits perfectly in one of our Ketchum cabinet shelves to hold vitamins, cold medicine, and various other pills. Thin worked great because it wicked nicely along the seams then hit it with the accelerator. Love your idea in the little brackets…..I’ll be using that idea! Tha ks Chris!!
Excellent video Chris. I met you in Skiatook and subscribed then and been a fan ever since. I was helping at the concession stand i also had my dog and had my camper setup out there. I wish we could do another meet up like that.
@@AGlimpseInside Thanks for the discount for starbond, just bought some. Also, appreciate all you do and thanks for sharing and bringing us into your shop! Love my hangars and 90 degree brackets. Keep up the good dad work too!
Not sure if anyone has said it here or not, but, you likely used Medium or thick CA Glue and formed an airtight seal around the edges... Bet this would work to pre-treat the edges of MDF to seal them before gluing, or, for Sealing the end grain of wood for any reason, like slowing the drying to stop or slow cracking/checking of the wood.. Although, a thick paint or thinned tar etc would be much cheaper for that particular reason...
Excellent tips, Chris! Thanks a bunch! 😃 But yeah, turners use CA as a finish a lot! Even for bigger pieces! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I always turned my nose up to the idea of using AC glue until I just gave it a try. I am pissed I didn’t try it sooner. I have now used a few brands and star bond is far better than most.
Good tips Chris, I've used a few of them myself ( probably learned them from you in a previous video! ). Starbond is great stuff. I haven't made very many pens lately and previous attempts to use CA finish have been hit or miss using another brand of CA. May have to give the Starbond a try! Thanks brother. :)
Be wary on CA glue is epoxy molds. I had a nasty reaction a couple years back where the two adhesives had an exothermic reaction and gave off some nasty fumes.
Great tips. Never thought of using CA glue as a sealer. On an entirely unrelated note - I went into Chipotle a few days ago, and while I was waiting to order, there was a kid standing on a nearby table waiting for the adult she was with to get their food. She was bouncing up and down excitedly (who isn't excited to eat at Chipotle?) and running the length of the bench, back and forth, and I thought, "Man, that kid looks familiar. Do I know her?" And just as I got to the head of the line it hit me - She looks exactly like Chris's daughter from A Glimpse Inside! Only a couple of years younger (this kid was maybe 3 or 4), and with dark brown hair. You don't have any relatives in Maryland, do you Chris? :D
No I don’t have anyone related to meet up there nor do I know if any family members that have a daughter that age. That’s pretty funny though. Thank you so much brother appreciate you being a part of the channel
I have a glass bottle full of acetone that I put the tips in overnight and that completely clears it up and alleviates any clogging. I should’ve put this in the video
Sanding those glues can be very dangerous. had a friend who was a cue maker and they were experimenting with CA glue as a finish. One employe had to be taken to the hospital. They scrapped the whole idea.
@@AGlimpseInside or freezer, either way. It won’t freeze until like -100C and the whole point is humidity is what makes it bond (the activator is basically water chilled by aerosolized butane). So keeping it out of humidity, like, say, in a freezer, will preserve it until we’re all long forgotten. (Edit: that’s why all that superglue in your junk drawer is rock solid garbage after 2 weeks)

@3:54 Boy, you're personality came through even on the very first one!!! You were born for this.
Great job on the water test! Good hacks for CA. Thanks enjoy your stuff!
Great informative video! I've used it as a finish with my pen turnings for years
I didn't use CA glue nearly as much as I have since finding your channel. The list keeps growing. Yet another great video man. Keep it up!!!
Thank you brother has always great to hear from you and I always appreciate the kind words
Enjoyed the video Chris! Hadn't thought of the corner bracket idea but that would be so helpful.

Thank you Brent I appreciate those kind words my friend
Bravo on the corner bracket!
Going to have to try Starbond. I've been an RC Pilot since 1988 and have used Zap and Bob Smith CA since then.
I need to start using these tips. Thanks.

Great video and techniques. Definitely will remember these in future projects.
Thank you brother always good hearing from you

I remember Jim, Such a great event hope you’re well buddy
And next week! Building out the kids room for new CNC! Jk. Great to see you doing well and needing more room.
I use CA glue and activator on wooden rings all the time. Great hardener for strength.
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Good stuff. I love CA glue.
I saw you all, in Skiatook! Moy is awesome! Great event!
He sure is

“Bumping bass shaking camera for dramatic effect” 🤣😂🤣
Yes using organic camera techniques mission accomplished

Love your work 👍

2:21 .. you know what else makes it easy, not using a 12" extension when you don't need it.. I too have had to learn that lesson!
The brackets were so close to the wall the 12 inch extension actually made it easier so the angle didn’t have to be so steep
i wonder the cost/ efficiency of using ca glue instead of 100% silicon which will provide equal results?
regarding the epoxy pour form.
I put rubbing alcohol in a squirt bottle to use as my accelerator. Much less expensive.
Had no clue this work I’m gonna have to try this. Thanks brother
I've used CA glue for years putting my remote control airplanes together. Never used accelerator. interesting though
Try coffee grounds to fill knot holes.......... more natural appearance than black CA
Regarding using CA glue & tape as double sided tape: isn’t it more cost effective to use double sided tape?
It might be but I don’t think so. Using just a couple of drops and not very much blue tape really doesn’t cost that much money
👍
I have trouble with the tips, they always clog up.what do you do about this? Rob
I have a glass bottle full of acetone that I put the tips in overnight and that completely clears it up and alleviates any clogging. I should’ve put this in the video
World of possibilities to use, wonder if it would work on plastic models
It might be a little tough to control but yes it will bond plastic for sure
I use Starbond and Gorilla brand CA glue on metal, resin and plastic models. For plastic to plastic bonds, though, a styrene cement is much better.
Every time I use activator it turns the glue white n looks terrible. Why doesn't yours.
Sanding those glues can be very dangerous. had a friend who was a cue maker and they were experimenting with CA glue as a finish. One employe had to be taken to the hospital. They scrapped the whole idea.
Anyone have any ideas on how to keep CA glue longer? I've heard you can put it in the refrigerator to stable longer...
Yes I keep it in my refrigerator here in the shop. That is 100% true
