  • This is Houston Airport's above-ground elevated train that services all five terminals on the sterile side of the airport. There are four stops: Terminal A, Terminal B, Terminal C, and Terminals D/E. The round trip on this train averages about 12 minutes and only seems to be busy at the C and D/E Terminals.

    At my brother's college graduation, we had a man saying the statements in English and a woman translating it to Spanish. It reminded me of this train.

    I had to use this to get from Terminal A to Terminal D to go buy some CAD at the Currency Exchange in Terminal D before my Air Canada flight out of Terminal A. Luckily I had plenty of time to ride there and back and get a meal before my flight.

    Nice video. I live here in the Houston area and fly out of IAH frequently. Glad you go to ride the train during a slower period of the day. Often it can be like a sardine can with so many flights coming and at once during a busy "bank" as airlines call it. BTW, I am frequently in Denver, I love it there!!

      TexMex Traveler I always try to ride without a lot of people, better videos that way. I'm not always lucky though. Cool that you visit Denver often, it's not as big as the cities in Texas, but there's still some neat things there. I'd like to actually see the city of Houston sometime, I've only ever been to the airport.

    Once arriving at a certain terminal, is it easy to find if you have a connecting flight leaving from a different terminal? I read it’s on the 3rd level but are there plenty of signs directing you to the Skyway?

    • @ElevatingDenver
      @ElevatingDenver  Рік тому

      The signs that direct you to other terminals will try to direct you to the Skyway train as well. It is upstairs on the third floor, just take the escalator or elevator up when you see the signs and the station is right at the top.

    You can really see the technological difference between systems that use Bombardier Innovia 100 vehicles at their airports (i.e. Houston, San Francisco, Atlanta) and systems that use Innovia 200 or 300 vehicles, like Dallas or Phoenix. Because the technology in the 200-series vehicles is much newer and the tracking system that keeps track of every train’s exact location is more accurate, the trains line up with the platform screen doors much more accurately and efficiently.
    With Innovia 100-series vehicles, the train slows down to about 1-2mph once it’s within 2 or so feet of the stopping position to be lined with the PSDs, and then coasts at that super slow speed for a few seconds until it’s lined up with the platform doors. However, even with this conservative braking approach, the trains still fail to perfectly line up with the doors, although some systems (Houston) seem to be worse at lining up with the doors than others (Atlanta).
    In contrast, the Innovia 200-series vehicles have a much more efficient braking curve when approaching and stopping at stations. They slow down to a full stop in one smooth run, without coasting at a slow speed to line up with the PSDs like the 100-series vehicles do. Additionally, they’re much better at lining up with the platform doors, and they’re faster at it as well. These little details just go to show how the vehicle-positioning technology used in Innovia systems has improved quite a bit from the 100- to the 200-series vehicles.

    • @ElevatingDenver
      @ElevatingDenver  2 роки тому

      You know, that's definitely very true. The door line up is awful on the 100 series. I've seen times where it's been as bad as halfway across the opening misaligned. In terms of the Mitsubishi Crystal Movers, those seem to be very accurate as well.
      It's very similar to how elevators have changed as well. Older elevators had multiple travel speeds for traveling and leveling, whereas some newer ones have completely linear acceleration and deceleration. They are now much faster and more accurate at leveling.

    I am watching this because I am going from Salt Lake to this airport and then to Amsterdam which it looks like I will need to travel from A to D likely. I have 4 hours and 15 minutes so should be plenty of time but good to see what I need to do.

    • @ElevatingDenver
      @ElevatingDenver  2 роки тому +1

      You'll have plenty of time to get from Terminal A to Terminal D. The train ride itself only takes about 5 minutes and trains arrive every minute or two. It's within the secure zone, so you won't have to worry about going through TSA again either. Just so you're aware though, this train is the only way to transfer to other terminals from Terminal A, as it's the only one not connected by walkways.
