I have been missing these shows for some time. I use to watch them hack in the early 1970s.

I really enjoy seeing these old childhood favorites. It's interesting to compare the differences between then and now, especially in this episode. I visited Yellowstone only a few years ago and will likely never subject myself to the crowds and traffic again. It's still beautiful but even in the dead of winter, one won't see Old Faithful views like that in this episode thanks to the huge complex of buildings all around. Wildlife management has changed a lot since the days of the colorful collars but various roundups for culling and movement to other areas still occurs in the parks (I was speaking with one of today's pilots just this past year here in Wyoming). Coyotes are prominent in this episode but now it would be the wolf and grizzly population that would be hot topics. I was in my final year of high school when Marlin Perkins passed away and it was like losing a family member. Thanks for posting these reruns.

Does the park still move elk around to different areas as shown in the film? Or have the re-introduced predators to keep the population in check?

No they let them do what they want. Only the growing Buffalo herds are controlled. Buffalo that leave park boundaries are shot by local cowboys snd they get to claim the meat.

I used to work for the Bureau of Land management, park service and forest service. A few elk won’t kill all the low branches unless they are staying near the hot springs for open grass and warm water.
In that case the deer moose and elk would all overgraze but that’s only a small herd the others would settle in another valley in the winter

Those elk naturally migrate up into Canada and parts of alaska if they want then west over the whole intermountain region

In what years did Peter Gros work on Wild Kingdom? he words it here as "Co-host of the original Wild Kingdom" with both Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler, but that's not true. Marlin ended his run in 1985 and died in 1986. Jim Fowler hosted it from then until 1988 when it was cancelled. It says it was revived in 2002, did Peter host that version? The official Wikipedia page for Wild Kingdom doesn't even mention Peter at all...

Great question! Peter joined the WK team in 1985 when Marlin decided to step down because of his health. Peter was featured in episodes in seasons 24 and 25. He also was in the Spirit of Adventure series and then in two Wild Kingdom shows that aired on Animal Planet. While Peter and Marlin weren't in any episodes together, we consider Peter as one of our original hosts of the show.

@@wildkingdom Kind of pompous of him to come in for a couple seasons at the tail end and claim he 'co-hosted.' Makes him sound WAY more involved than he was. BTW Love these vids😍😍
