- Glickenhaus is set for a Motorsport return in 2024, participating at the nordschleife during the historic 24 Hours of Nurburgring. The American brand is famous for racing in the WEC and Le Mans with their SCG007 LMH, however, they also have been racing a GT3 race car at the Nurburgring. In this video I will give all the details regarding Glickenhaus’s return to Motorsport.

Quick add on here:
Glickenhaus also entered the Nurburgring 24 Hour event in 2011 and 2012 with a Ferrari P4/5 C. Although 2015, was the first time a completely Glickenhaus built car (SCG003C) was entered.
Correct. P4/5 C is built off of a 430 Scuderia.
How many street cars have they made?
Back when there was still something called the Geneva Motorshow, I talked to Glickenhaus and he told me he was ready to sell 300 cars with number plates that year. That never happened. And also... While he is an American, and Glickenhaus is an American brand name, all his cars are designed and built in Italy by a famous LeMans racecar company called Podium Advanced Technologies.
While its always popular to wave that flag and claim a small american workshop is taking on the big boys, not a single nut or a bolt is designed or built in America. I mean... There are no workshops or teams in the US qualified for this kind of stuff. And that includes "hypercars", such as SSC Tuatara, which is built by the same people in Italy, and F5 Hennessey which is built in the same way except in England.
The best entry ever in this 24 hour race was the Gumpert Apollo back in 2008.
They competed with a hybrid version of the car.
Really happy to hear Glickenhaus will grace the racing scene again. A shame they are no longer in WEC, even running 1 car in the Hypercar class would have been fantastic. For a small manufacturer, they really ran pretty respectably and their car was distinctive and a treat for the eyes. Glickenhaus helped get WEC and Hypercar to where it is now so I wish them nothing but good fortune for their contributions to endurance racing
Glickenhaus already graced the racing scene this past weekend in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS)
I wish they could compete at IMSA in the GTP class, but unfortunately, they don’t produce at least 2500 road cars a year
I think that rule you have to produce 2500 cars in order to be eligible for the endurance event to me Lamar hypercar should be an experiment class which means someone can build a hypercar race car I'm coming to the class as long as they are within the rules of hypercar if we get rid of these types of ideas how much cars you have to sell in order to qualify then what's going to happen is we will not see enough entries of hypercars coming into MSA or to wec but if it has a whole different set of rules compared to wec which means this is about the show of Lamar hypercar if you want to put on a show open the doors for chassis Builders to build a Lamar hypercar income and race but of course there should be a limit of hypercar Manufacturers on the grill
But how don't they make 2500 cars a year when Toyota sells 10 million a year
honestly, they should make that only applicable to manufacturers, while privateers should be exempt much like WEC
@@Wild_stream064 Toyota is not interested in going to IMSA at the moment. They are eligible though since they produce at least 2500 road cars a year
Because it's a small privateer brand that only makes sport cars for rich customers@@Wild_stream064
2019 was hell crazy. They were running P2 overall at night.
There was also the P4/5 Competizione, which was more like a redesigned Ferrari 430, inspired by James Glickenhaus' own unique Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina. They used it in 2011 and 2012.
Some info:
Their 1st 2024 races already happened. They competed in NLS races 1-2 in SP-X class this past weekend. P8 and P5 overall, the car is reliable, however it's missing a bit of rythm with the strongest GT3s.
The car was improving lap by lap, started race 1 with a best time of 08:20, and finished race 2 with a 08:02, just 5-6 seconds off the fastest lap.
Hoping the BoP will not slow them down at the 24h. In the past it felt like cars in SP-X class where slowed down a little bit too much so they can't compete with the GT3s.
So they lost.
@@s2korpionicthat is not losing in a race series such as this, dunce
Nice video as always, but they're not going only for the 24h of Nurburgring, they're going for the NLS season
UA-cam sim racing content creator Jimmy Broadbent will be racing in the nurburgring 24h in a BMW GT car. He and his team took a class win in a race there yesterday in the number 150 Bilstein BMW.
Did that include Super GT?
@@bpen2178 yeah, SuperGT and Misha Charoudin. They race in Sp8 (gt4) and not Sp9 (gt3) though
BMW M4 GT4 is the car btw, so they didn't race against SCG and other GT3s.
Great having these guys back.
I didnt expect the 004c to rock a blue livery, but goodness me does it look fantastic
007LMH homage maybe 😊 (Light blue, French flag colors... Like in WEC)
Glickenhaus starts not in 2015 on the NBG! In September 2009, Glickenhaus announced his intention to race a new version of the P4/5 in 2010 24 Hours Nürburgring. The car, called the SCG P4/5 Competizione, would not be a conversion of his road car but instead an entirely new car with a Ferrari chassis, VIN and drivetrain, made under Glickenhaus's own car brand Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. In May 2010 however, it was revealed that the Competizione would in fact be raced in 2011, based on a 430 Scuderia. It would be built to FIA GT2 standards and raced by Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus in an Experimental Class under the direction of Paolo Garella, former Head of Special Projects at Pininfarina. Ferrari completely distanced itself from the SCG P4/5 Competizione project in 2011, refusing to sell the team parts for vital engine rebuilds between races. The car finished 39th in the 2011 24 Hours Nürburgring (after bursting into flames) and in 2012 won its class and finished 12th overall.
Happy and excited to see that They're back 👍
They are indeed back 👍
OMG, best news so far this year! 🤩
FANTASTIC, GREAT WORK . . . I LOVED your Hypercars 708 & 709, GORGEOUS WORKS OF ART with 3rd at 24 H OF LE MANS, FANTASTIC . . . Now Returning to 24 h at Nurburg . . . Fantastic SUCCESS ALL . . . Im still INTERESTED in you Race Cars you will Field . . .🇺🇸 Continued SUCCESS . . .
Still the best boutique constructor in hypercar era to date. Reliability, line up, it was just lacking a bit of development to bring the car to big names level. Leagues above Vanwall, and probably isotta (a bit early to say but considering their own line up i don't expect to do anything this year but solving reliability issues).
Love SCG. Have all their scale models. I actually thought their Hypercar was the best, most beautiful. Was really hoping a privateer would pick up a few of these beauties and ran them this year.
Btw that’s a very good line-up of drivers. I know of Com Ledogar from his GT Open days. Solid driver. Also I’m a Lance Arnold fan ever since he set the stick shift record with the Viper ACR on only his first try ever in a Viper around the Ring. Had it not been for those weak Kumho’s tires, he would have dropped the Snake into the 6 sec lap threahhold. This man knows the Ring. Looking forward to seeing SCG again on a track.
If they do manage to get their car homologated i wonder what team would take a chance and run them considering factory teams are forbidden in GT3.
Honestly i still love they still race
Excellent that Glickenhaus is back...!!! I love their persistence! It seems to be a great down-to-earth racing team with an enthusiast spirit for motor sport just like in the old days when sponsors were not so influential...
Being in the sp-9X class means they will be competing with a few other cars that are not homologated for SP-9.....maybe by themselves.....I can't recall.....( help in comments).
I like the livery even though they don't really have to score anymore "French" points. lol
they won't be competing completely by themselves in the SP-X class during the 24 hour race. It's already confirmed there will at least be a GT2 KTM X-bow competing, and possibly some more as well
Good to hear
I hope for them that the Nurbürgring event will be successful for them so they still can get sponsors and attentian. Love to see a team with such pure passion for racing
4:04 why its so slow? Its some kinde a longer racing ring configuration?
tasty looking cars. Great colors . great curves.
The Nurburgring 24 is part of a series of races the track runs known as the Nurburgring League Series ( in English). Two four hour preliminary races were held this past weekend. The Glickenhaus is slower than the factory GT3 Porsches, Mercedes, Audis and Lambos. They were not really competitive in the first race, but on Sunday they found about 7 seconds of lap time and qualified 8th, only 5 seconds down on the pole. The car finished either 5th or 6th in the race, about 3 minutes behind the winner over a 27 lap race of 14 plus miles per. Their race pace was 7-10 seconds a lap behind the lead cars on a 8 minute plus lap time.
There are two qualifying races for the 24 this coming weekend. I don't know all the rules so I don't know if the Glickenhaus already has a race spot locked down or if they have to qualify via the races. The 24 Hour race itself is on June 1 and 2.
The Nurburgring has a UA-cam site where all of the NLS races are live streamed and then on replay mode, as well as the 24 Hour. Anyone who has never seen a race may want to watch one of the replays to get a flavor for how special and unique the races are there. The 4 hour races had more than 90 cars entered and the 24 Hour will have over 150. The traffic with huge disparities in lap times and almost unfathomable closing speeds for the top cars is breathtaking to watch.
The 24 Hours of Nürburgring is not part of the 2024 Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie calendar.
actually they even started some years earlier than 2015 with the p4/5 competezione
True! I just recently found that out because before recording, there wasn’t any info I could find that mentioned that the car participated at the Nurburgring event. Likely because it wasn’t completely a Glickenhaus built car. However, now that I am aware about the entry, the next time I mention Glickenhaus’s history at the Nurburgring 24, I will mention the car!
I am very excited.
What homologation rules allow for this car to compete as a GT3?
Hey! Can you do a 24 hours of the ring quantifying explained video?
It already raced last weekend at the Nurburgring
True!
I wish I could drive there cars in Gran Turismo 7
Go SCG!!!
Awesome to see them back, but why don’t they field a WEC entry in the LMGT3 category instead of hypercar? It’s significantly cheaper right?
I need to look further into exactly why they aren’t producing a LMGT3 effort, but I know one factor is limited space. Other manufacturers such as Audi wanted to join LMGT3, but there wasn’t any space
They need some road car producing numbers I think, to be able to homologate the car
@@Calibra95 I’m pretty sure the car they’re racing at the Nurburgring is a GT3 car, so it has the production numbers required
@@mrsoisauce9017Nope. They're competing in the SP-X class, which is for special homologation cars that doesn't fit in the other classes. This car is more on pace with a GT2 car.
@@dieCROCS04 Oh. Aight then. My bad, bro
Is that 6.2 liter engine a Chevy?
Chevy-based one
I'm glad the Nurburgring 24 happens, but I'm not a fan of the coverage. It's so difficult to film and consists of mostly onboards or helicopter shots. That's fine but I feel it doesn't give the crucial viewpoint compared to the cars around it. That's all.
Dude, the Nurburgring is huage.
They need to start producing cars for them to get bigger
Sometimes I keep forgetting that this manufacturer makes actual cars besides race cars. 😅
I would like to be excited about them returning, but I can't, although I try. Racing one car is a huge disadvantage in many ways.
So, it's running a Chevrolet V8?
They definitely have a great design department 🤔
neat
They can get back to WEC with GT3 Racecars and challenge big manufacturers .
Well they can't since they don't have a GT3 car. To be homologated they would need to build like 200 road cars and 10 GT3s for a few years. I'm not sure if they can do that.
Clayton house what's going to return to the Nurburgring no matter what because that's where they made their race program there so going back to Nuremberg is where they want to be if they cannot make success in wec but the fact is they didn't have enough money backing to continue their program is the reason why they pulled out of wec so if you cannot get sponsors to back you then your program will be hard to sustain out of pocket which is the case
In English please?
I wish they could join IMSA 😔😔
Me too! It would be a dream come true!
Luca at Podium and Joest racing run a tight ship. The chassis and engine are very strong and SCG knows endurance...
Wish them success.
👍👍👍👍
I wonder if they could return to Le Mans in the future in the GT3 class.
Glickenhaus💪
The underdogs 💪
The GT3 is as similar to its LMH; THEY ARE SMEXY!
No mention of the 2011 car 😢
Tbh while doing my hours of research on the matter before recording, there wasn’t any info I could find that mentioned that the car participated at the Nurburgring event. Likely because it wasn’t completely a Glickenhaus built car. However, now that I am aware about the entry, the next time I mention Glickenhaus’s history at the Nurburgring 24, I will mention the car!
I dont get it. There is someone making a car out of nothing, or are these guys rebranding some other cars?
It's a brand new car made in house by SCG which is also under going normal road tests for road car sales.
@@peng9179, looks like they copied a Ferrari. Doesn’t have a proper style.
I will continue to be a Glick hater. Jim is just so off putting, I can't support him.
I do not like the guy's attitude and arrogance myself, but he is a passionate man who never made a rare hypercar just for the rich kids to collect together with the dust in the garage.
Every rare exotic that this guy made has raced somewhere somehow.
I'm following them on X/Twitter. They're doing great things with the 004.
Glickenhaus' performance at the hypercar segment was just absolutely pathetic, to put it nicely. An absolute embarrassment.
Wouldn't be surprised if their SP car would suck just as much compared to other brands.
Oh, and to all the GH fans and apologists? Cope and seethe.
wow, your just a troll arent ya.
You’re the edgiest guy you know.
"Super" - "Hyper" such silly names. No shes not just a model... shes a "Super" model. LOL!
You don't really make sense.
