This is the best version ever,I remember I got this tape on O' Connell bridge in Dublin,a guy that sold all concert and demo cassettes. I was dissapointed when it came out on its official release a few years after.
@@stephen_mangion there's a bad obsession demo from 1986 max and it's izzy who sings and sings like shit on that particular demo doesn't sound like this at all because it's Axl, the voice Axl uses here is similar to patience and civil war
So beautiful. Axl’s voice always gives me goosebumps. He’s the legend. Even tho i’m 19 now n couldn’t get to experience these at their time, i am so glad they are still with us. I saw them last july in vienna w my friend. It was the best time of my life. I picked up a bass because of Duff Mckagan, and I never gave up because of Axl Rose. God bless all of them.

@@YesJustTia That's about right. I believe he was 23 when he wrote the lyrics for this. Izzy, who wrote the music, was probably already 23 as well. They were the oldest when they joined the group. Slash and Steven were just babies. They were probably both 19 in the very beginning.

This version came close to being included on the Appetite release, but they decided to wait and keep it for a later album. It's a shame. The final version released on UYI was typical of the overproduced music we heard from many bands during that era. The irony is that what appealed so much to people about Guns 'N Roses' music during the Appetite era (even up to the original release of Civil War in 1990) was the raw, emotional sound and lo-fi production quality. It was so counter to what was being heard on the radio and on MTV at the time. I remember thinking at the time that these guys were the real deal. It was the perfect marriage of punk, hard rock, and garage... Live at the Ritz (1988) is absolutely legendary.
@@DamnTheFullMoon I also own that box. almost hurt my back picking it up the first time. it's the demo they shopped to major labels in their earliest days
This version is much more Hanoi Rocks which is how Izzy originally conceived it. Listen to dont you ever leave me hanoi live in marquee and that intro they put out is dont cry. Even in this version he speaks in the middle of the song as in the theme of the 85 version.
Am I going to have to buy one of those? A vintage 12 inch vinyl to get this? Or do I have to look for this Japan version? Or do I have to buy the huge package of cd'sc, vinyls, etc. they sell on the GNR website to get this? Thanks for any info!
I had this demo along with November Rain, Jumping Jack flash , Heartbreak hotel in 88 , I lived all the way down in Tasmania Australia and got a copy from overseas through tape trading. I was actually disappointed with the Use your illusion version as I LOVE this version, especially Axls voice . It was awesome to be 13 and having these unreleased songs on a demo, You thought you were in a small special club that had access to songs no one knew about.
Yeah, you know ... I have heard that it used to be easier to get demos and tape trading living overseas than it was living in the U.S. Lucky you! Yes - I hate saying this about Shannon Hoon - cause he was a great guy and super talented. But, this song, to me, just sounds better with one person singing it. Sure, a little back up, but Hoon and Axl basically sing the whole thing together, you know? And i always felt that it sounded ... too busy that way? Or basically, what I didn't like was that I wanted to hear Axl's amazing voice. And no disrespect to Axl or Shannon Hoon or to Slash, because I know they all loved it that way. I just always thought it would have been good to do a version on UYI that was just Axl and then another version with Shannon Hoon. But - now I know I can actually buy this version. I didn't know that I could. I figured out I could buy the single that was released, which is similar, but not this one, right? Do I have to buy the special edition to get this one? The 1985 demo version? Cause it is NOT the one on the single that was released, correct? Thanks so much and I totally agree that this one is the best. But I think they all have their merit. Just a matter of opinion. It is just if you love GNR and you love Axl - you love Axl's voice. So of course you want to hear it as much as possible, right? Rest in peace to Shannon Hoon and no disrespect to him or to anyone in GNR, especially Axl and Slash who i know loved it that way!
So you had a bootleg of one of the shows? Maybe one of the Roxy shows? I know they sang heartbreak hotel and Jumping Jack Flash at one. It was one of my fave shows of theirs. I love them on JJF!!!!!!! And their take on Heartbreak is great!
Kinda woulda been cool to hear axl do more stuff in this super clean baritone. I mean, it shows up here and there on other songs, but this is kinda different.
