- This was so difficult to choose because Eddie has so many awesome licks. Other contenders included various tapping harmonics from certain songs and Mean Streets tapping intro. More Van Halen coming soon...

TONE, STYLE, FEELING
You own these riffs!
Thank you so much! :)
He is such a cool guy and amazing player... rock on dude!
Arthur Martins Thanks so much Arthur! :)
Cameron, Just a quick msg to say how much I like your videos, I started playing back in the early 70's and played for about 20 yrs before quitting. Your vids have drawn me back and I am having a blast relearning how to play again. I even bought a THR10x after hearing the sounds it can make in your videos. Keep putting them up, and I'll keep watching them. best part of my day. If only I had these vids back when I was playing it sure would have saved me a LOT of time figuring stuff out! Thanks
wayne hendren Hi Wayne! So sorry for the slow reply to your truly awesome comment. This makes me feel really warm inside I'm so glad you're inspired by my videos. It's comments like this that keep inspiring me to carry on and keep recording. Thanks so much. Take care :)
It's cool hearing Spanish Fly on electric for a change.
Just wanted to say- fantastic guitar playing- of all the guitar players to be watched and listened to you are by far my favorite. Right in the sweet spot of every thing that says ROCK!! Keep up the good work I know how much time you put in- so thank you. It's appreciated!! Love my Charvel as well :-)
Michael Dickman Hi Michael. This is a really awesome comment, thank you so much for the kind words. This means an awful lot! :)
Fantastic as usual. Glad you're on break from uni, we're getting tons of vids.
You are 100% locked in and perfect. Awesome!
You're an amazing player, Cameron. You're a good teacher, too. I really appreciate your passion for guitar and for Eddie Van Halen.
Your playing amazes me! Merry Christmas!
Roger Philabaum Thanks so much Roger! :)
Respect! Sick playing
Ahhhh this is do ridiculously awesome!!!!
great as always!
great job !!!
Your the man brother love how you play Eddie so freaking good
Hey brother, just found you on YT. Great content, great presentation, no BS or dumb stuff. Keep the EVH stuff coming. You have great chops!!!
Blown away yet again at by the ease you demonstrate these licks.
I've seen your Q/A vids but I don't recall an answer specifically to this: any tips on developing that super fast Van Halen legato?
ZombifyYourself Hi there. Thanks for your comments and and sorry for the slow reply. It's hard to give tips for legato in words without having a guitar in your hands but I'll try.
1. Use your index, middle and little fingers.
2. Practice repetitive patterns on single strings to exercise your fingers.
3. And then apply these sequences to a three note per string scale.
It's surprising how little Eddie use legato but instead uses the staccato technique in which he combines picking with legato. I use that more than legato :)
Pure talent dude!
Hi Cameron....thanks for your rockin' tunes. I wish you a nice X-mas!
Thank you very much! I hope you have a very Happy Christmas also. Take care. :)
Dude you are killing it.
TheUmbrella141 Thanks so much :)
Great video !!!
Another great video Cameron! THANK YOU for dissecting that lick in Feelin' that runs up the open B string! Pretty sure the 'official' tab for it is wrong, and I could never figure it out by ear!
1VHFan You're very welcome. Have a very happy Christmas
Great Sound Man!
Francesco Angelini Thanks Francesco :)
i am being taught ! much obliged.
Awesome!! Thanks brother! Have a great Christmas too! :D
Thanks so much. I hope you have a very happy Christmas! :)
I'll be on the look out for your EV 'Pound Cake' solo version !!!! My favorite.... 😆😁😊🎸🎶🎵🎼🎶
Cam, I just discovered your channel and love it! I have a couple of questions. Do you buy all of your Charvels, or do you have them sent to you for demo purposes? Also, I'm really struck by your playing. Do you have any tutorial/lesson videos?
Keep 'em coming! always look forward to your posts. How do like your 5150?
Anthony Anwar Thanks so much Anthony. I very rarely use the 5150iii these days because it's so loud. On the flipside, the THR is faster, smaller, portable and I'm not as paranoid about it breaking as I am with the EVH. The EVH sounds amazing and I hear it is virtually bombproof but I think will always have an insecurity and small element of distrust when it comes to the robustness of valve amps. But valve amps just have a sound you can't get anywhere else.
Hi Cameron, I recently discovered your channel. Good work! Love your playing and the Charvels. Am I right in thinking you are somewhere in the Manchester or Sheffield area (video trips to Sounds Great, Cheadle and Rich Tone, Sheffield)? Are you in a band yet?
Martin Allcock Hi Martin. Thank you very much for your comment. I am not in a band currently. I live in a town just outside of Manchester. :)
I gotta stop watching your videos,I am going broke,HaHa!!I bought 2 Charvel Pro Mods, and just got a Yamaha THR10X because of you....awesome little amp,and the Charvels are crazy good for the money....now if I can just make them sound as good as you...Happy Holidays!!!
Scott Peters That's awesome Scott thank you so much. Don't worry, I know you will :)
Great work! I'm waiting for you to go for Nuno :-)
Outstanding video, well done Cameron! Do you mind if I ask what guitar pick you are using in the video?
I AM Z I am using a Dunlop Tortex 1.5m, the white ones
Cameron Cooper thanks for your reply Cameron. You're a super guitar player and I'm trying to learn as much from you as possible. Have you ever considered creating an instructional course for Udemy.com? There are other UA-cam channels run by guitar teachers who have created courses for their followers to take. It might be a good option for you if it is of Interest. Cheers and happy holidays my friend.
first sub for me in like two years...very nice
Thanks man for this video ... I am from Instagram🇺🇸
You sound absolutely amazing Cameron. Will the Yamaha THR series get updated soon, you think?
Theo Ravelo Fully enough I am not 100% sure. I do know that they have released a brand new variation of the existing THR10 range and they're apparently more realistic and resemble a valve amp really well
Cameron Cooper oh wow! Are they still named thr10x for the high gain model? How do I distinguish the new versions? I'm gonna get one as soon as I find one. Thanks Cameron. :)
Theo Ravelo The new THR10 models look no different, they just have just been tweaked a little bit. On the face of things, they look exactly the same.
Cameron Cooper Got it. I'll be calling my local music shop. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks. :)
👍👍👍THR best too
Dam...!!! Ur good.. 🎸🎸🎸
Unbelievable. You Rock! and your just a kid!
Very good my frend
You played EddieV pretty damm well. Which is your favorite guitarist of these 3: Eddie, Steve Vai or Joe Satriani ??!
Too lazy to read through all you great comments so asking what amp and effects are you using for these? Sound great!
Tommyrox Mullenix only a thr10x
@@yonikup2865 Wow! Sounds awesome!
Tommyrox Mullenix ya somehow he makes it sounds amazing. I owned the amp and even tho it was ok it didn't live up to my expectetions. Great amp never the less.=) he has the best tone from the amp i have ever heard from any video on the internet
@@yonikup2865 I totally agree!
Feelin is an amazing solo
8:10 Haha man you sure make it look easy
I have an Ibanez S series guitar and i constantly have trouble with the floating bridge. Based on my experiences with Floyd Rose systems i feel like theres no medium. ITS either really good and excellent or really piss poor to just ok. How do the Floyd Rose's on your Charvels add up?
Almost Black excellent on both the charvels and evh
Almost Black Hi there. The Floyds on the Charvels are awesome. :)
Quick question about your guitar tuning. I've read somewhere where Eddie Van Halen mentioned that he tunes his guitars down to E♭ on all six strings.
According to him it feels better, and sounds better. Do you use the same tuning method as EVH or do you set your guitars at standard tuning?
I have the same question!!
dan19630 depends if the songs are Roth or Hagar...
Roth all tuned down in line with the originals
Most of my guitars are either in standard tuning or half a step down. It does make a difference to how I play that's very true. In this video, Beat It and Feelin' were played with the guitar tuned down a half step.
My all time favorite solo is Me Wise Magic. Don't know if you take requests but it's really hard to find a decent cover anywhere
I love that solo too. The Wolfgang he used to record that song had a sustainer in it from what I know. I will definitely look into it because I really like that song.
there was a guy on the net who had tabs for me wise magic along with just about every other song in the vh catalog. Nice in depth video lessons ed's using a trans trem on me wise magic same thing on summer nights & get up. The guy broke down me wise magic so it could be done with a capo in parts and with out
Mateusz Dawid Well I'm sorry I am not that guy. I don't use tabs for anything although I do know how to play Me Wise Magic. It's really hard though. You need a Fernandez sustainer and I believe a whammy pedal for a small section of the intro.
You should learn the solos to Secrets, Push Comes to Shove, and One Foot out the Door. I bet you'd fine a lot of cool licks in those solos.
zackvanhalen They're great solos I love those. :)
what is the pickups of the guitar?
What kinda effects where you using in this?
Connor Johnson I am using just a Yamaha THR10X :)
Did you record this with 5150?
Good God how many Charvels do you own *you got skills* JJG
Lots of people say Eddie was a better guitarist with Dave, but, I say he was a better musician with Sammy.
Listen to enough of Eddie’s playing, and you’ll realize it didn’t matter if it was Dave or Sammy 😉
7:17
amaze the employees at the music store with Eds repetitive tapping, smudging and smearing, then segue right into "Smoke on the Water"
If you had the cam closer to the fret board I wouldnt feel like im trying to learn it from mtv
I know! A lot of time has gone by since this was made. I've learned aha
@@CameronCooper can you redu this video? These are great licks!
@@shoppersplace I might do actually but I'm not rushing. I've got other stuff to film and teach before this. Plus I'm bored of doing Van Halen stuff at the moment
Steel panther next.............?
Hes done that one I think
Nic Wilson no that was riffs not licks.
sup
Elias how da u know
about what?
I can barely reach a 12-15 stretch forget 12-19
Cameron is this a hobby for you, or do you play guitar for a living?
Chris Strobel It started off as a hobby but I do get a little money from it now.
Oh my god. Cam Eddie died!
What? No I'm the one? :(
Wilbeerthoven It's a great riff but none of my favourite licks are in that song
WTF
Go figure a Brit talking and playing VH! I would expect a lot of British folks to despise VH!
Max Weisenstein Hi Max! Thanks for the comment, very interesting. Why would you expect the Brits to despise Van Halen? I'm just surprised that's all. :)
Max Weisenstein not sure why .... they are all a mix of Dutch and German haha ....seen vh with Roth and Hagar in 80s and mid 90s ..problem with vh is they are shit to their European fans and like taking the money from sales but rarely ever toured .... shame really
I guess maybe a stereotype. I dont know. I find some Brits to be pretty territorial and go figure an American band popular in Britain. I know it happens, but I wouldnt expect you guys to be preaching it. I also am quite surprised that you like a lot of the newer VH. A lot of their fans prefer DLR as vocalist only. I like everything as long as its Eddie! :)
Max Weisenstein no problem but it's actually inaccurate to say fans prefer dlr.... Hagar albums were very successful too ... dlr fans just shout louder haha .... like I said... I like both but there is no question that Hagar is definitely better live ... Roth lost it a long time ago live .... such a shame they can't at least record some more music ....vh are generally rubbish to their fans and give them next to nothing compared to other acts who actually appreciated those who buy the music and merch and tickets...
