  • This was so difficult to choose because Eddie has so many awesome licks. Other contenders included various tapping harmonics from certain songs and Mean Streets tapping intro. More Van Halen coming soon...

    Cameron, Just a quick msg to say how much I like your videos, I started playing back in the early 70's and played for about 20 yrs before quitting. Your vids have drawn me back and I am having a blast relearning how to play again. I even bought a THR10x after hearing the sounds it can make in your videos. Keep putting them up, and I'll keep watching them. best part of my day. If only I had these vids back when I was playing it sure would have saved me a LOT of time figuring stuff out! Thanks

    Blown away yet again at by the ease you demonstrate these licks.
    I've seen your Q/A vids but I don't recall an answer specifically to this: any tips on developing that super fast Van Halen legato?

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  6 років тому

      ZombifyYourself Hi there. Thanks for your comments and and sorry for the slow reply. It's hard to give tips for legato in words without having a guitar in your hands but I'll try.
      1. Use your index, middle and little fingers.
      2. Practice repetitive patterns on single strings to exercise your fingers.
      3. And then apply these sequences to a three note per string scale.
      It's surprising how little Eddie use legato but instead uses the staccato technique in which he combines picking with legato. I use that more than legato :)

    Keep 'em coming! always look forward to your posts. How do like your 5150?

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  6 років тому

      Anthony Anwar Thanks so much Anthony. I very rarely use the 5150iii these days because it's so loud. On the flipside, the THR is faster, smaller, portable and I'm not as paranoid about it breaking as I am with the EVH. The EVH sounds amazing and I hear it is virtually bombproof but I think will always have an insecurity and small element of distrust when it comes to the robustness of valve amps. But valve amps just have a sound you can't get anywhere else.

      Theo Ravelo Fully enough I am not 100% sure. I do know that they have released a brand new variation of the existing THR10 range and they're apparently more realistic and resemble a valve amp really well

    Quick question about your guitar tuning. I've read somewhere where Eddie Van Halen mentioned that he tunes his guitars down to E♭ on all six strings.
    According to him it feels better, and sounds better. Do you use the same tuning method as EVH or do you set your guitars at standard tuning?

    • @JJGhostHunters
      @JJGhostHunters 6 років тому

      I have the same question!!

    • @johncooper9853
      @johncooper9853 6 років тому

      dan19630 depends if the songs are Roth or Hagar...

    • @johncooper9853

      Roth all tuned down in line with the originals

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  6 років тому

      Most of my guitars are either in standard tuning or half a step down. It does make a difference to how I play that's very true. In this video, Beat It and Feelin' were played with the guitar tuned down a half step.

      there was a guy on the net who had tabs for me wise magic along with just about every other song in the vh catalog. Nice in depth video lessons ed's using a trans trem on me wise magic same thing on summer nights & get up. The guy broke down me wise magic so it could be done with a capo in parts and with out

    • @CameronCooper
      @CameronCooper  6 років тому +1

      Mateusz Dawid Well I'm sorry I am not that guy. I don't use tabs for anything although I do know how to play Me Wise Magic. It's really hard though. You need a Fernandez sustainer and I believe a whammy pedal for a small section of the intro.

      Max Weisenstein Hi Max! Thanks for the comment, very interesting. Why would you expect the Brits to despise Van Halen? I'm just surprised that's all. :)

    • @johncooper9853
      @johncooper9853 6 років тому

      Max Weisenstein not sure why .... they are all a mix of Dutch and German haha ....seen vh with Roth and Hagar in 80s and mid 90s ..problem with vh is they are shit to their European fans and like taking the money from sales but rarely ever toured .... shame really

    • @slipshaft
      @slipshaft 6 років тому

      I guess maybe a stereotype. I dont know. I find some Brits to be pretty territorial and go figure an American band popular in Britain. I know it happens, but I wouldnt expect you guys to be preaching it. I also am quite surprised that you like a lot of the newer VH. A lot of their fans prefer DLR as vocalist only. I like everything as long as its Eddie! :)

    • @johncooper9853
      @johncooper9853 6 років тому

      Max Weisenstein no problem but it's actually inaccurate to say fans prefer dlr.... Hagar albums were very successful too ... dlr fans just shout louder haha .... like I said... I like both but there is no question that Hagar is definitely better live ... Roth lost it a long time ago live .... such a shame they can't at least record some more music ....vh are generally rubbish to their fans and give them next to nothing compared to other acts who actually appreciated those who buy the music and merch and tickets...
