      Bart Clemons That Wolfie helps immensely I own a black Prototype PRE. PAT. PEND. no trademark or patent numbers anywhere on my Wolfgang. It also has perfect intonation and hold perfect tune even if I wank on the bar or even press the bar so far that the strings literally fall off of the fretboard, when I let the trem com back up to pitch... Wolfie is still in perfect tune... they are Bad Ass...

      The thing people never talk about is the idea that a great deal of tone is in your fingers. Sure, your fingers won't give you high gain distortion, but it's the idea that the greats understand every small thing you do with your fingers contributes to the musicality of your playing: where you're picking, how you pick, the amount of vibrato. It's like steve vai says: a lot of work starts how you imagine your playing should sound, because as you spend time with the instrument and listen to what you're doing, your fingers will create what your brain creates.

    Its really cool of you to do this kind of stuff. For all the idiots saying its a waste of time, you should be yourself and not copy Eddie, well it makes some people happy to be able to copy something they like and if you learn enough of other peoples styles, you can incorporate them into what just might become your own style. I don't know why people have to be rude and say stupid shit instead of just shutting up. And so what if you didn't know what album unchained was on, who cares??!! Some jerk mentioned a one trick pony who made the same album ten times, what an ads, Eddie was a pioneer and as much as I didn't care for it, he moved into keyboards also. Sorry about this rant, I've just seen so many stupid comments today from people who don't know anything about what they are speaking of. Thanks again for taking the time to do this. Just to really prove my point, I'd like to say that I'm not really into Eddies style to point of wanting to sound like him, I prefer styles like Andy LaRoque and George Lynch, but I like to learn a little of all styles and appreciate guys like you who take time to help others. End of rant.

    I've been trying to do tapping and EVH tricks for years, but my sound was always weak and uneven. I just recently realized, and I've NEVER heard anyone mention it, that he probably uses a compressor to bring up the weak notes and bring down the louder notes, basically evening out the volume of everything. I also noticed you have a Compressor-Sustainer in your set up there, so am I right in assuming this is a huge part of being able to successfully play this stuff? If so, then isn't the compressor pedal just as important as those other three you mentioned? Thanks sir, great lesson and subscribed.

    • @UptempoMusicLessons
      @UptempoMusicLessons  4 роки тому +3

      Compression definitely can smooth out your taps but it comes at a cost; tone. A compressor squeezes frequency range so you lose high and low end making the tone not quite as fat. The amount of compression from a super loud amp on 10 like Eddie plays makes things pop out easier but I don't have the luxury to play on 10 here in my little office so I use an attenuator which is not the same so a compressor makes up the difference. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Pick Harmonic = Pinch Harmonic. Nitpicking here - Pinch harmonic seems to be the more common term, possibly because "pinching" is more descriptive of how the harmonic is achieved and you can play a pinch harmonic without a pick. Nice lesson, thanks.

    "Unchained" is from the best guitar album ever: "Fair Warning"...Eddie's hatred for DLR comes out in the music...And it's actually a Phaser with a slow sweep...He later introduced his own pedal with an "Unchained" setting for this. But just like life; it's all about rhythm and timing.

Been stealing his shtuff since 1978. I took lessons from Jesse Gress at Star Music in Allentown PA. He is currently playing with Todd Rundgren. I saw a go fund me for him. He is very sick with lung cancer. Please say a prayer for Jesse. He was one of the best guitarist nobody knows. He was the Editor for Melody maker I believe. I did the whole Clapton unplugged in NY book. It was spot on. one day the book was laying on the kitchen counter and on the top of it it said Transcribed by Jesse Gress. I had no idea. Search him on you tube and check him out . He was just so down to earth and kool .He would show you anything you wanted to see. If any of you guys has any spare coin, perhaps it could help a very ill good guy. RIP KING EDWARD We all miss you

    This guy really rocks and although I do not (yet) play the guitar, I do play drums and piano and have been a die hard VH fan all my life. Since Eddie and Alex come from The Netherlands and (both?) started their musical careers playing the piano, there might be some possibilities for me in the not so near future to make some first steps trying to play the guitar.
    PS I just stumbled upon this guitar hero teacher today and hope I will find similar videos about another of my guitar heroes, Tom Morello (and I am very happy to see HIM perform again in NL with Prophets of Rage in just a few weeks. Now it is just a matter of hoping, “praying” and wishful thinking to see if VH will rock again in NL.

    I love that you covered tapping, but that last bit was not tapping. Those are right hammerons and making this distinction would help explain the technique better to beginners as well. You are just executing a hammer on with your right hand. Kudos on covering some actuall tapping though, it's rarely covered and a whole generation is unaware of this technique due to the " newspeak" definition that has run rampant.

      Thanks for the kind words and for the comment. I have heard that argument before about right hand fretwork, but the only fly in the ointment is that all tabulature programs call it tapping, signified by a "T," so that is what I go with. Anyway, I hope you are having a marvelous holiday and all the best for 2020!

    Hi up-tempo, I apologize! Maybe I was a little bit off the chain.I'm sorry that I got a little frustrated trying to learn from your site, and when it is as important as Eddie Van Halen licks. I should have been a little more patient. It is hard to use the controls on UA-cam sometime to keep up with what you're doing.I apologize again I didn't know that you had the tabs on the the descriptions below. Next time I guess I should look before I leap. I'm sure it's a lot of work trying to put a package together like up-tempo, and it probably takes a lot of your time. And it's good that someone like you, that takes the time to try to help others. You're a good man for doing that. When I started learning to play the guitar back when I was 18 we didn't even have tabs and we certainly didn't have You Tube. It was even hard to find music books that were in tabs, and unfortunately I don't have a very good ear for music. I remember buying the first Van Halen album back when they first came out. I've loved Van Halen ever since. I apologize again and thank you up-tempo fo giving me an opportunity to do so.
    Thank you again
    And keep up the good work.
    Todd P.

      Hey Todd, no problem my friend. I could understand how frustrating it would be to not have tabs for this. Thanks for taking the time to comment, for the kind words and for watching. All the best!

      I’ve got the same guitar. I bought it NOS. But the trem doesn’t stay in place. The thumbscrew comes loose. Do you guys have a nylon washer in there or so?

    Great job and Thank's, Subscribed cuz i need more and your sound is right-on. Do you know what pickup they use?

    • @UptempoMusicLessons
      @UptempoMusicLessons  4 роки тому

      I think that the pickup in the Peavey Wolfgang is designed by Peavey and EVH. It is a humbucker. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!

      Fair warning is my all time favorite album. Lots of really cool stuff on it. Push comes to shove, mean streets, dirty movies, more serious stuff you didn’t see on other albums.

    Yes, most definitely the way Eddie holds his pick, seperates him from the majority of Guitar-Players.. I myself try to copy this.. ( lol,,, So, So Hard..You gotta have that Loose wrist ).

      Thanks for the kind words and for watching! I am using a Soldano HR50 through a Lead 1960 Marshall cab. Kinda good for aping Eddie's early 90s tone.

    EVH pretty much upstrokes all his double stops in the studio. Do that and all your stuff would instantly sound more EVH like. It's really noticeable on the intro of Unchained and Panama. It does make a difference.

    Hi again UpTempo,
    I apologize again, and thank you for being understanding. That trait is a good sign of a good teacher, to be somewhat patient with students.
    It's not my place to tell you how to run your business, but I thought I would share some other websites that I go to. They're not perfect but it's easier to follow these guys in the way they present their lessons. And here they are.
    UA-cam.com/bernthguitar and
    UA-cam.com/scottpauljohnson
    Maybe they can give you so ideas. But if not I'm sure you'll do just fine.
    I love the way you've mastered Eddie's playing style, it's really fun to watch you play. No doubt!
    Thank you again for your lessons, I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy learning from you.
    Thanks
    Todd P.

    The first thing I want to talk 'abote' is how you didn't know what album 'Unchained' is on (Fair Warning maybe?); haha just kidding brother...seriously though dude; I am not very easily impressed but you have every single one of The Man's licks/tricks down COLD...awesome playing and great presentation; keep it up man...blessings to you always eh? ;>
