Both Rabbinic Judaism and modern christianity have added to and subtracted from Tanakh. The New Testament is actually consistent with Tanakh but it is misrepresented by christian theological frameworks. Here's a brief explanation of how the text is actually consistent. Every covenant is eternal within the limitations of it's specifications. God's covenant with Adam was that He would send a redeemer. Period. In the meantime, Adam and Eve and all their offspring would have work distorted by opposition and childbirth distorted by pain, in order that we will recognize the value of His work on our behalf and the REST that we enjoy in His strength; and that we understand the pain involved in the spiritual rebirth that He provides. This covenant is with all mankind, that God promised to not leave us in our sin and let evil proliferate forever, but that He would make every provision necessary for salvation. Noah's covenant is specifically that God will not destroy the entire world with water, but allows for Him to destroy it by fire. The Abrahamic covenant is specifically with his physical offspring on one hand (with subset promise of salvation in this world that they will live out their purpose to live God's law as a light before all nations). However, Paul makes clear that Abraham has spiritual children as well (who believe and follow the God of Avraham, Isaac and Jacob) who are joined to that purpose as part of the commonwealth of Israel (Jacob) who will reign with Him. This covenant recognizes that God called and still calls His people out of the nations. (Abraham was formerly a Syrian, etc). Ephesians 2; Romans 11 and many more. The big question is WHY would 'Matthew' (or whoever wrote that 'gospel') cite a passage like Hosea 11, pretending it was about God calling Baby Jesus out of Egypt back into Judea after the death of Herod (etc.), knowing that ANYBODY who has read Hosea KNOWS it's about how God called the 12-tribed nation of ISRAEL out of Egypt -- even going on to chastise them for having "sacrificed unto Baalim, and burnt incense to graven images" (verse 2). WHY would 'Matthew' do something so patently ridiculous, so laughably bogus? It is plain to me, having read Joseph Atwill's book "CAESAR'S MESSIAH," that the true authors of the New Testament were propagandists working on behalf of the Flavian emperors in the immediate aftermath of the Jewish War which THEY had won against what had then been "mainstream Judaism" -- the popular form of it that had instigated the War in 66 CE. These Jews HATED Rome, and had come to believe that a Zeal for the Law on their part would be rewarded by YHWH by His helping them to conquer their pagan enemies, the same way young David was able to kill Goliath, despite him being a scary-looking giant. The winners of the War -- the Flavians who began a new dynasty ruling over the Roman Empire -- studied the writings of their enemies: the zealots, the messianic Jews, the ones who saw themselves as the Sons of Light in a conflict in which they supposedly COULDN'T LOSE, because YHWH was on their side -- obligated by the promises He had made to their forefathers to fight on their behalf IF they returned to His ways. The Romans undoubtedly thought their enemies were off-their-rockers. Willing to twist their own sacred scriptures into meaning something that the original writers surely never intended. Both Rabbinic Judaism and modern christianity have added to and subtracted from Tanakh. The New Testament is actually consistent with Tanakh but it is misrepresented by christian theological frameworks. Here's a brief explanation of how the text is actually consistent. Every covenant is eternal within the limitations of it's specifications. God's covenant with Adam was that He would send a redeemer. Period. In the meantime, Adam and Eve and all their offspring would have work distorted by opposition and childbirth distorted by pain, in order that we will recognize the value of His work on our behalf and the REST that we enjoy in His strength; and that we understand the pain involved in the spiritual rebirth that He provides. This covenant is with all mankind, that God promised to not leave us in our sin and let evil proliferate forever, but that He would make every provision necessary for salvation. Noah's covenant is specifically that God will not destroy the entire world with water, but allows for Him to destroy it by fire. The Abrahamic covenant is specifically with his physical offspring on one hand (with subset promise of salvation in this world that they will live out their purpose to live God's law as a light before all nations). However, Paul makes clear that Abraham has spiritual children as well (who believe and follow the God of Avraham, Isaac and Jacob) who are joined to that purpose as part of the commonwealth of Israel (Jacob) who will reign with Him. This covenant recognizes that God called and still calls His people out of the nations. (Abraham was formerly a Syrian, etc). Ephesians 2; Romans 11 and many more. Mosaic or Sinai Covenant: this covenant is impossible to say it has been dissolved because it's very specifications include the possibility of and provisions for divorce. Therefore, even if it were to result in divorce, it would be being upheld. Yet, despite the divorce that came to be through her whoredom, God established another covenant specifically so that He can still carry out His love and desire according to this Covenant: He came as a husband who would die, so that the bride could be married to Him. So this new covenant helps us desire to practice God's laws. He writes His law on our hearts by the Holy Spirit. It is interesting to note that Christ tells us that the 'new covenant is in my blood.' (Luke 22:2). This is because He is God's Word or Torah lived out perfectly in the flesh, rightly applied to the situations of life. When His eternal Word is central to our being as the core and foundation of our lives, our lives become eternal as the Word in us.

When I was a young kid at catholic school i asked questions. I was told to not read the bible and accept what the church taught. That started me on a lifelong search. Went through many churches. She didn't give one single example to support her argument, just a broad general accusation. I've never heard Tovia explain anything in a manner that changes the plain meaning of the text. His explanations always bolster the meaning of the text, and he always uses specific examples. And he always encourages you to look it up for yourself.

I think some christian patristics such as Origen would argue that the torah, writings, and prophets can be allegorized in accordance to truth or reality. In other words, the existence of the "plain reading" would not categorically contradict the allegory of wisdom that could be pulled out and the allegory would not attempt to explain the original text. This is not to prove the Messiah in Jesus, but a linking of ideas. So when you quote Paul that "they would have never crucified Jesus", it could make sense in this regard that the signs of the coming Messiah was veiled outside of the plain reading so that God's purpose would not be thwarted.

That is, to Christians their personal opinion on applying the text to things that the text is definitely not talking about proves that their beliefs are true. With all do respect to Rabbi Singer, you should cross check his arguments. He manipulates texts and presents deceptively. There are many responses to his claims by scholars who shine true light into his either ignorance or intentional claims. He has also been caught out numerous times with fabrication. Oh also deletes comments when someone counter argues to claims made. Dont believe me, scroll through the comments and you will see a trend. Ive had a few deleted personally.
I think that if it were possible to get Rabbi Singer and this young lady together (in person or by web conference) for a live debate it would accomplish two things: (1) Enable her to get the truth that it really looks like she is hungry for, and (2) demonstrate to all viewers that Rabbi Singer is not, in fact, lying about anything, but instead trying desperately to educate all of us (Jews and non-Jews alike) about the truth of the Torah.

Every covenant is eternal within the limitations of it's specifications.
God's covenant with Adam was that He would send a redeemer. Period. In the meantime, Adam and Eve and all their offspring would have work distorted by opposition and childbirth distorted by pain, in order that we will recognize the value of His work on our behalf and the REST that we enjoy in His strength; and that we understand the pain involved in the spiritual rebirth that He provides. This covenant is with all mankind, that God promised to not leave us in our sin and let evil proliferate forever, but that He would make every provision necessary for salvation.
Noah's covenant is specifically that God will not destroy the entire world with water, but allows for Him to destroy it by fire.
The Abrahamic covenant is specifically with his physical offspring on one hand (with subset promise of salvation in this world that they will live out their purpose to live God's law as a light before all nations). However, Paul makes clear that Abraham has spiritual children as well (who believe and follow the God of Avraham, Isaac and Jacob) who are joined to that purpose as part of the commonwealth of Israel (Jacob) who will reign with Him. The big question is WHY would 'Matthew' (or whoever wrote that 'gospel') cite a passage like Hosea 11, pretending it was about God calling Baby Jesus out of Egypt back into Judea after the death of Herod (etc.), knowing that ANYBODY who has read Hosea KNOWS it's about how God called the 12-tribed nation of ISRAEL out of Egypt -- even going on to chastise them for having "sacrificed unto Baalim, and burnt incense to graven images" (verse 2). WHY would 'Matthew' do something so patently ridiculous, so laughably bogus?
It is plain to me, having read Joseph Atwill's book "CAESAR'S MESSIAH," that the true authors of the New Testament were propagandists working on behalf of the Flavian emperors in the immediate aftermath of the Jewish War which THEY had won against what had then been "mainstream Judaism" -- the popular form of it that had instigated the War in 66 CE. These Jews HATED Rome, and had come to believe that a Zeal for the Law on their part would be rewarded by YHWH by His helping them to conquer their pagan enemies, the same way young David was able to kill Goliath, despite him being a scary-looking giant.
The winners of the War -- the Flavians who began a new dynasty ruling over the Roman Empire -- studied the writings of their enemies: the zealots, the messianic Jews, the ones who saw themselves as the Sons of Light in a conflict in which they supposedly COULDN'T LOSE, because YHWH was on their side -- obligated by the promises He had made to their forefathers to fight on their behalf IF they returned to His ways. Anybody who has read the Dead Sea Scrolls knows that they were punctilious in their strict observance of the Torah.
But the writers of those sectarian scrolls did ONE thing in particular that their enemies in Rome must have found absolutely bonkers: they scoured through the sacred texts and deliberately PRETENDED that certain non-prophetic passages in books like Habakkuk and Nahum (for example) ACTUALLY WERE prophetic. They believed that their own current events -- the unfolding history centered around their spiritual/political drama involving their Teacher of Righteousness versus the 'Liar' and/or the 'Wicked Priest' HAD to have been foretold by the Prophets of old. So they went out of their way to take verses out-of-context and interpret them AS IF those passages were foretelling events in their own day. These are the so-called "pesher" texts found at Qumran.
When the Romans, having captured alive many of the fanatical Zealots and their sacred and sectarian literature, interrogated them and found out about this goofy way of 'interpreting' old books written centuries before, what were those Romans supposed to think of the mental gymnastics that those pesher-writers went through, to see THEMSELVES described in obscure passages from Habakkuk (etc.), a method of interpretation that helped to justify their own politically-motivated rebellious actions against Roman hegemony?
The Romans undoubtedly thought their enemies were off-their-rockers. Willing to twist their own sacred scriptures into meaning something that the original writers surely never intended. Thus, when it came to concocting a 'New' testament -- a new pseudo-judaic 'scripture -- so as to promulgate a bogus 'messiah' who would prove to be PRO-Roman and ANTI-Jew, the Roman propagandists working on behalf of the Flavians SPOOFED what the pesher-writers from the Zealot community had done.
THAT is why 'Matthew' takes a passage like Hosea 11:1 ridiculously out-of-context, pretends it's a divine 'fulfillment' of prophetic scripture, yet knowing full well that only an idiot or a fool wouldn't see it for being an illegitimate and bogus way of dealing with a supposedly sacred text. Those Flavian propagandists were only emulating the pesher-text writers, those 'interpreters' who weren't above twisting passages in the TaNaK to serve their own agenda. What was good for the Jewish goose is good enough for the Roman gander, one might say.
This bogus way of trying to use 'scripture' to interpret current events has never gone away, by the way. Anybody who thinks that the crisis in Ukraine is a prelude to Armageddon is guilty of the same unhinged prophecy-mongering that those poor oppressed folks in Judea resorted to, a kind of pattern-seeking that led to their brave yet doomed stand against Roman oppression. Every time the U.S.A. gets a new President, some evangelical minister tries to see if the new President's name can add up to 666 with gematria.
The Romans viewed the Jews -- i.e. those non-hellenized Jews who would never compromise on their religious principles -- as seditious fanatics. The war was costly for Rome, and it was a war they couldn't risk losing, no matter what. If the Jews were to successfully overthrow Roman rule from their province, then all the other conquered provinces would follow suit. Rome HAD to win, no matter at what cost. They put down the rebellion with the utmost cruelty.
And then . . . to punish the Jews for having DARED to take on Rome's might, the Flavians invented a religion that BASTARDIZED their sacred writings, purporting to present as an actual personage in history a parody of messianic expectations -- the 'christ' named Jesus. This fictional 'messiah' was placed in Judean history exactly 40 years before the events Josephus chronicled in his JEWISH WAR. Because the outcome of that war had already happened, the fiction set 40 years before it could present this 'Jesus' character ACCURATELY 'PROPHESYING' THAT FUTURE.
The entire New Testament was written by Rome, by propagandists working for Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian. The calamity visited upon the Jewish people trapped in Jerusalem during that horrific siege was seconded by the even greater calamity that would dog the steps of Jewry ever after, the institutionalized antisemitism brought about by the new religion which was designed to stoke hatred of Jews in the hearts of non-Jews. The central theme of this 'new' testament was that the God of Israel had ABANDONED those whom He had adopted as His "Chosen People" since the time of Abraham -- that the Jews had FORFEITED their status as God's Chosen People by their rebellion against Rome.
Christianity was a ghastly parody of Messianic Judaism (i.e. the version of Judaism that the Zealots favored, as opposed to the Pharisaic Judaism and the Sadducean Judaism practiced by Jews who were subservient to Rome) -- designed to be anti-Jewish, to portray gentiles as more righteous than Jews, to portray a Jewish Messiah who was friendly with TAX-COLLECTORS, because it's all about the MONEY, folks, the economic exploitation of the conquered provinces. Those tax-collectors -- themselves Jewish -- were like the Vichy in France after Nazi Germany conquered them, Frenchmen who aided the Nazis to carry out their agenda. No self-respecting Frenchman would ever consider a fellow countryman to be a Patriot if that man were aiding and abetting the depredations committed by their enemies. Any would-be 'messiah' who was seen befriending tax-collectors during the Roman occupation of Judea would be DESPISED by the Jewish masses, and rightly so. Virtually everything about the 'Jesus' of the gospels is an upside-down spoof of what the Jews had every reason to expect a 'messiah' to be.
Joseph Atwill's "CAESAR'S MESSIAH" provides the corrective lens that enables us to see the New Testament for what it really is: a spoof of Judaic religion intended to heap unending suffering upon the Jews throughout posterity. Religion was a tool to be used to further the agenda of Rome. He disproves, and that doesn't necessitate scolding, it is an invitation for people, and in this case for this young woman, to seek and learn the truth about things and to find her own place within the realm of truth, just like the rest of us. - Just my two cents. :)

Both Rabbinic Judaism and modern christianity have added to and subtracted from Tanakh. The New Testament is actually consistent with Tanakh but it is misrepresented by christian theological frameworks. Here's a brief explanation of how the text is actually consistent.
Every covenant is eternal within the limitations of it's specifications.
God's covenant with Adam was that He would send a redeemer. Period. In the meantime, Adam and Eve and all their offspring would have work distorted by opposition and childbirth distorted by pain, in order that we will recognize the value of His work on our behalf and the REST that we enjoy in His strength; and that we understand the pain involved in the spiritual rebirth that He provides. This covenant is with all mankind, that God promised to not leave us in our sin and let evil proliferate forever, but that He would make every provision necessary for salvation.
Noah's covenant is specifically that God will not destroy the entire world with water, but allows for Him to destroy it by fire.
The Abrahamic covenant is specifically with his physical offspring on one hand (with subset promise of salvation in this world that they will live out their purpose to live God's law as a light before all nations). However, Paul makes clear that Abraham has spiritual children as well (who believe and follow the God of Avraham, Isaac and Jacob) who are joined to that purpose as part of the commonwealth of Israel (Jacob) who will reign with Him. This covenant recognizes that God called and still calls His people out of the nations. (Abraham was formerly a Syrian, etc). Ephesians 2; Romans 11 and many more.
Mosaic or Sinai Covenant: this covenant is impossible to say it has been dissolved because it's very specifications include the possibility of and provisions for divorce. Therefore, even if it were to result in divorce, it would be being upheld. Yet, despite the divorce that came to be through her whoredom, God established another covenant specifically so that He can still carry out His love and desire according to this Covenant: He came as a husband who would die, so that the bride could be married to Him. (His Torah Law declared that no bride who left her husband and married another could be remarried to that husband; but would be free from Him if He had been faithful, by His death).
This provision of death and promise of remarriage is the Davidic Covenant and is certain and eternal and Messiah's second coming will fulfill it, as He reigns.
The new covenant is the first part of the Davidic covenant being fulfilled as Christ becomes king in individual hearts and we are loyal to His Law. But it is this preparation in the hearts of those who long for Him that prepares the way for His coming, not any earthly dominance, because scripture reminds us constantly that when He comes, He will (have to) destroy the wicked and literally rescue the suffering remnant who are faithful to His name.
The new covenant builds on the other Covenants; it does not replace them:
Hebrews 10:16
“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,”
Ezekiel 11:19; 36:26

1 John 2:7-
Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard.
At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
As John reveals, the new commandment is that the Light of the world came (Jesus) and told us to be the light of the world.
The new covenant is not a new law, but the law written on our hearts, powered by His own Spirit living in and through those who believe.
The covenant is new, not the law. Just like if one marriage is annulled it doesn't mean the law is null and void.
The writer of Hebrews quotes Ezekiel and Jeremiah who both testify that the new covenant is when God writes His law on believing hearts by His Spirit AND causes those who are changed by His indwelling Spirit to desire to walk after His law.
Jeremiah 31:33
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Ezekiel 36:26-27
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your fleshand and give you a heart of flesh.
And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
So this new covenant helps us desire to practice God's laws. He writes His law on our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
It is interesting to note that Christ tells us that the 'new covenant is in my blood.' (Luke 22:2). This is because He is God's Word or Torah lived out perfectly in the flesh, rightly applied to the situations of life. When His eternal Word is central to our being as the core and foundation of our lives, our lives become eternal as the Word in us.

I enjoyed your explanation. You are well spoken and patient, which I appreciate. I think some christian patristics such as Origen would argue that the torah, writings, and prophets can be allegorized in accordance to truth or reality. In other words, the existence of the "plain reading" would not categorically contradict the allegory of wisdom that could be pulled out and the allegory would not attempt to explain the original text. This is not to prove the Messiah in Jesus, but a linking of ideas. So when you quote Paul that "they would have never crucified Jesus", it could make sense in this regard that the signs of the coming Messiah was veiled outside of the plain reading so that God's purpose would not be thwarted.

Scripture was written in a very simple way so we the people could understand. The idea of a trinity or a divine messiah is incredibly complex and doesn't mix well at all with the theology of the G-d of Israel. The time studying the scripture for what it really is can open your heart in ways you couldn't imagine. ✡️

With all do respect to Rabbi Singer, you should cross check his arguments. He manipulates texts and presents deceptively. There are many responses to his claims by scholars who shine true light into his either ignorance or intentional claims. He has also been caught out numerous times with fabrication. Oh also deletes comments when someone counter argues to claims made. Dont believe me, scroll through the comments and you will see a trend. Ive had a few deleted personally.

I think that if it were possible to get Rabbi Singer and this young lady together (in person or by web conference) for a live debate it would accomplish two things: (1) Enable her to get the truth that it really looks like she is hungry for, and (2) demonstrate to all viewers that Rabbi Singer is not, in fact, lying about anything, but instead trying desperately to educate all of us (Jews and non-Jews alike) about the truth of the Torah.
