  • In this video I take a look at a true relic from the past. I bought this second hand for 50 cents. So what exactly is this thing?
When I was a boy (and well into my teen years) I was a frequent customer at Radio Shack. I still miss that place. For an electronics geek like me, it was paradise. I loved looking at all the gear, wires and gizmos that lined the walls. I had no idea what most of these things did, but I wanted to learn. I bought my very first mixer at Radio Shack, not even sure how to use it. But I was determined to learn.
Keep in mind this was long before the internet. So I could not look up videos on how to use this gear. I had to learn on my own.
The device I am featuring in this video was a tool that people could use when listening to their TV or radio. Home entertainment was very much still in its infancy. Gear was much more primitive at that time. This device comes right from that era. It might seem kind of laughable today, but at the time this would have been viewed as a very useful piece of technology.
As I have mentioned before, I am a big fan of thrift shops and second hand stores. I can find the most unusual and fascinating retro technology in these places. I never know what I will stumble across, and that is always very exciting to me.
Were you a big fan of Radio Shack? Did you buy lots of stuff there? What are your memories of Radio Shack? Did you ever use or own this device? Please feel free to leave a comment!
On this channel I post videos relating to retro and vintage technology. Things like cassettes, CDs, old cameras, laser disc, radios, TVs, DVDs, home recording gear, microphones, mixers, synthesizers, drum machines, video games, and so much more. If this is your thing, please subscribe!
