    In my early days of amateur radio, I used the ARRL paper logbook. In 1996, I created my own logbook software application, built on MS Access. I used that logging program until a few years ago, when I switched to Ham Radio Deluxe. But there was another logging program I tried just before switching to HRD. I really liked that one. The logging portion of that program was superior to HRD. But HRD had the ability to control my radio, mimicking the buttons and knobs. But I found that I rarely ever used the rig control feature. I prefer to press buttons and turn knobs. So, I decided to go back and try the program that provides better logging features. In this video, I show the basic setup for my FTdx10. But of course it can be used with other transceivers. I went on to set it up for my FTdx5000MP as well.
    I conducted a poll of my Patreon team members and this program was a runaway favorite.
    At the end of this video, you will be able to see a listing of some of the supporters of this channel who made this video possible. S9+ (VIP+) denotes an S9 (VIP) member who voluntarily chooses to give over and above the amount for S9 (VIP) membership. They help me continue to produce videos even though most people do not contribute toward the cost of my mission. Without their support, I cannot bring my viewers uncensored content.

Visibility of premium content is determined by the level of membership you choose. The higher the membership level, the more content you have access to. VIP members are invited to participate in periodic Zoom meetings.
    Most videos are visible to the Patreon team members long before they are released for public viewing. Some videos are never released for public viewing. Yearly S7 (Executive) and S9 (VIP) members have access to the menu optimizations PDFs I’ve written for the FT-891, FT-991A, FTdx5000MP, FTdx101D/MP, FTdx10, and FT-710 AESS. Yearly S7 (Executive) members can receive one menu optimizations PDF while yearly S9 (VIP) members can receive multiple menu optimizations documents, plus my FT8 configuration guide for either the FTdx10 or the FT-710 AESS. Also purchased the full suite. Agree with above comment, many customizable options under the hood. Love the “link” to QRZ while logging if you want a peek at a page. Contest logs are wonderful and NO BETTER SUPPORT than you’ll find with N3FJP. ANY TIMEOF DAY/NIGHT!

    Yes sir, I have tried many logging programs and N3FJP is by far the best. It does have lots of bells and whistles but they are under the hood and not out in your face cluttering up the screen.

    I’ve tried almost all the windows based logging programs. None are perfect, but this is simple and reliable. I use CCUser to feed and filter DX spots to AC Log. Together they are very good.

    I bought the suite that includes the contest logs. I like it better than HRD and N1MM. When I tried HRD I didn't care for it. I do some of the state QSO parties but I am not much of a contester. The Field Day and Winter Field Day logs are great. KM4NHN.

    Hi Doug,
    I have HRD, but found the UI too cluttered. Was using N1MM+ for contests and would then upload the ADIF to LoTW. I'm now using ACLog and haven't looked back. Have used their contest logs, but haven't been active in contests lately. 73 WJ3U

      Don, I’m in total agreement about the HRD UI clutter.

    I have T32TT on 10 through 30 Meters, which is OK, BUT... if I want credit in LOTW I have to go to Clublog first which stinks. Sorry, not related to your video but when I saw T32TT it reminded me. Also, thinking if I'm going to get him on 40, I'm going to have to get up really early ;)

      I saw T32TT and TT32TT about an hour ago. But I had no propagation.

    So I guess one can't run both N3FJP for logging and HRD for rig control at the same time, huh? On mine I get an error about the COM port (access denied) on whichever program I try to run second (doesn't matter which of the two COM ports I select, either). Is there a way I'm missing? Disappointing if not...I like HRD's way of rig control but the N3FJP logger seems better...

    • @n4hnhradio
      @n4hnhradio  7 місяців тому +1

      I found myself never using the rig control. If I want to control my radio from a monitor, I could but a Flex. But I’m a button and knobs guy. So the rig control was wasted on me. You can have two programs polling the comm port simultaneously. Still, you can type a frequency into the Call field of N3FJP, press enter, and it will tune your radio to that frequency.

      @@n4hnhradio On my computer, if I have either N3FJP or HRD open already and try to open the other program, I will get a COM port error about "Access is denied" and then it says to check that the COM port is not in use by another program (which it is because the other program is open). Do you know how I set it up so that both programs can poll the COM port simultaneously?

    • @n4hnhradio
      @n4hnhradio  7 місяців тому +1

      I don’t think you can have CAT control from two sources at the same time.

      @@n4hnhradioThat's probably what it's trying to do now that I think about it.

      @@n4hnhradio There is a way to share a COM port between two different apps. I believe it creates a two virtual com ports and acts as a "traffic cop" between the two virtual ports and the physical port.
      Another way is for the application to use the HRD Rig Control API. WSJT-X will happily co-exist with HRD because it uses HRD to control the rig instead of a direct CAT connection. I wish N1MM and N3FJP would implement HRD rig control. I use N1MM for the CWTs and it's a pain to disconnect HRD and connect N1MM. Seamless integration would be nice.
