This is the best video for how to get faster at 5x5, I was trying to get fast at 5x5, but I just couldn’t, I looked at other videos on how to be sub 2 and none of them helped so I just gave up 5x5, I think that I might get back into because of this video, great work!
Since you're taking requests, I have two: 1) how to teach someone to solve using mirIS - this method only uses inverse sexy and its mirror, so it's great to teach someone new IRL because you don't have to write down a bunch of algs and explain notation etc. Just going over how it works and how to explain it to a non cuber could be very helpful! 2) It's a long shot, but a "concise" Heise tutorial would be amazing. Just an overview of how it works like you did with Roux, I'm sure it would get lots of people into it! Incidentally, your tutorials are literally the best. You've recently motivated me to learn BLD, get back into 4x4 and now 5x5, and to start dabbling in Roux. Thank you
Really Helpful J perm! I had no idea of these cases for the centers....I definetly improved at least 20 seconds with watching this keep up the good work man
7:50 when you take out edge from back slot and put it into the front to flip it, you also put upper-back edge into the back slot. So if this edge was completed as in this video, you will occasionally destroy it.
Really appreciate your video. The last 2 centers are really useful, and the dominant hand tip is something I don't do a lot, would probably try to switch. I have been stagnating at 1:30 for almost a year now, recently decided to spend an entrie week to practice 5x5. For tip #6 I do E R2 E' R2 (or similar things) a lot. I'm a Yau 5 user.
i have been solving 3x3 for several years now. and tried to discover how to solve the 5x5 on my own. i did. but it takes me about an hour per solve. thanx to this vid, i got it down to 20 minutes.
Try setting it to half speed if you want to watch the moves more closely. As an added bonus, you'll get to hear a really drunk guy explaining complex cubing technique!
5:52 I use way to finish the bar and it doesn't require that many moves. From that angle, you can do a U' to do an Rw U Rw'. Then, your yellow bar should be paired up.
Good tips thanks :) L2C tips are great! I have trouble doing shortcuts from memory.. now it's all logic easy moves no need to memorize algs. for me, edge pairing tips not very useful as i prefer more moves over time to think and figure out how to do shortcuts and solve more without risking a wrong turn.. anyway I'm a beginner at cubing in general not just 5x5.
I broke my first 5x5, but I been getting back to cubing recently and I decided That I want to get fast at 5x5 so I ordered one and I’m now waiting for it to arrive
7:31 That's kinda a new one haha depends if you watch Tuesday Tips or not. It's less moves but you lose the flexibility as edges become solved in the (U) and (D) layers.
What would time do you think is best for edges? I solve centers in 20-30 seconds and then edges in 35-45 seconds, and I average around 1:35. How could I get my edge times down to around 25-30 seconds?
i dont use redux so im not sure about splits. try to see if you're worse at first 8 edges or last 4 edges, cause those are pretty different. for f4e you can try to store them all in the same layer, so that the next 4 edges are done with easier look ahead. i personally never used this for redux, but my redux times are really inconsistent probably due to look ahead (i average around 1:25 with redux). for l4e, try to avoid slice+flip+slice unless it solves 2 wings at once. if you bring the back 2 edges into the top layer, you can do slice+insert+slice which almost always solves 2 wings at once.
Remember how in one of your videos you showed that if you did a J perm and turned the cube 3 times you would do one move. What if you made a J Perm out of J Perms then used those J Perms 3 times and turned after each move to do one move. Maybe you could make a J Perm out of J Perms out of J Perms
you can, but then you will end up with a three cycle that you will have to solve afterward (if you use lukas parity). Its just easier and faster to learn 5x5 lukas parity. the only difference between the 5x5 parity alg and 4x4 is on the first Rw' of the alg (the 7th move) you do Rw' but with 3 layers on the right instead of two (3Rw'). Hope this helps!
I learned how to solve a 5x5 today and my first solve was 7 minutes 43 seconds, that's kind of good actually for a first solve on a big cube, but after the experience of solving 3x3 and 2x2 at rapid speeds, I was like ew disgusting I'm so trash
cubing with ayush i would love to help I'm seeing that your edges are quite terrible I'm assuming you don't know free slice a method where instead of joining an edge taking it out and then resolving centers you work the entire edge until you finish an edge until all but four edges are solved then resolve centers then solve last four edges there are many great tutorials on youtube it is called free slice.
Hey Dylan, thx for making the 5x5 budget cube Comparison, now 8 Know to get the YuXin cloud, but what 6x6 and 7x7 should I get that’s at a low price point but good performance?

Is freeslice just a more advanced version of reduction? Because I don't see much of a difference between the two except the way that you solve edges in each.
I don't mean to spam you but what's your opinion on wide U moves instead of D moves during edge pairing? It's just something I came up with and it seems to be helping my times
