Great boat build and excellent videos guys. If you do get a more powerful motor, you should check the weight of it compared to the current one. You may need to add some ballast towards the bow or it may just tip the boat up on it's transom. Perhaps you could put a hatch in the top between a couple of the bulkheads and turn it into a storage locker to hold some weight, even if you only put some stones or rocks in it as ballast. It might be a good idea to do this even if you just stick with the current motor.

if you plan to visit open seas I suggest building the hull as a V shape cross section front to rear - what one calls a 'V-huil' and a pointy design up front. that way the boat would split the waves & go through gracefully rather than riding the wave and then catch air only smash again on the water surface, which is scary, uncomfortable for the occupants and trying for the boat structure. Here in the mediterranean all boat are built that way since especially here in Malta the seas can get quite rough anything not built in Malta or at least Sicily or North Africa will be crap in the open sea and will be at the mercy of the waves and current - don't ask me how I know. What you are building with a flat bottom is a lake or river boat at the very best!

The boat is super aft heavy, which is why you had to get on all fours and steer it from in front of the steering wheel. If you plan on adding a bigger motor, you should add another two to three feet of material to the back end, keeping the passenger area where it is. Otherwise, it'll just go nose up and you won't be able to control it.

Nice job 👍. A bit of ballast in the bow would make it perfect

Very fun video. I have thought about doing a similar project before. I have build a motorized raft 5 or 6 years ago. Basically a wooden deck on pontons from an old kayaking bridge, with a 5hp motor behind it. I've also helped my dad restore an old wooden speedboat and assembled a similar steering rig, and I think that there is too much slack in your cable. Because my raft looks like it moves faster than your boat, but I am pretty sure it weighs somewhere in the ballpark off 400-500 kilos and I am sure it pushes a lot more water than yours. So it doesn't make sense to me that it would be so slow. You should try operating the motor manually and see if there is a difference.

The boat looks a little back heavy. Maybe a sand bag in the front to help balance it out?
