as an A's fan, Dallas is an absolute legend around here. didn’t even know all these details about him growing up though, just makes his story even more electric. I can never help but tear up when I see him go hug his grandma after the perfect game
Dallas Braden is the embodiment of the Oakland Athletics. He’s an overlooked, eccentric, and unfortunate story that is absolutely beloved by his fans. He’s a pleasure to listen to as the A’s color man.
I have to think that his mom , as she lay sick and dying ; could think only of her young son Dallas. I have a feeling she implored God to help her son, to keep him going even when times were tough, and to help him in his dream ; that had to look crazy at the time. Well God and Dallas sure came through! This guy has fallen so many times, as we all do ; but he got back up and refused to stop in the pursuit of his dream!! He is an inspiration and a bit of a hero in my opinion . Your prayers were answered mom!

To me, and this comes from a life long A's fan , his announcing style was so annoying I had to stop listening to him. He's extremely cheesy, and talked like he was the smartest guy in the room.
I had lost my mother just prior to this Mother's Day miracle. You cannot know the impact of that perfecto. I have shed SO many tears of joy over coming home from work to watch that game, that day. One of the strangest and perfect moments I have ever witnessed and held in my heart. A beautiful thing happened that day.

Dallas Braden was my BABYSITTER for 2 YEARS!! His wife is super close to our family and she would babysit me all the time and Dallas would actually come over sometimes with her because he thought me and my sister were cute. They eventually had children down the road but I always had that slight humble brag Dallas Braden the guy who threw a perfect game for the Oakland A’s of all teams was my babysitter for a short stint 😂😂😂
Growing up in Stockton myself, I obviously knew of Dallas. But had no idea of his full story. Already loved the dude but now have such a deeper respect for him and his accomplishments. Great video and keep killing it Dallas!!

He was my sleeper player on my fantasy baseball team during his active seasons and I loved watching him play, he was electric and wild in a good-odd way, so much fun to watch him pitch. I didn't know about his personal life and now I have a better picture of him as human being, that's awesome! Thanks! Greeting from Venezuela!
I grew up with Dallas, he was my older brothers age but the guy is hilarious. We grew up playing sports for the same organization. One of my best memories of Dallas was when he punked this older kid that was tossing me around. Dallas and JD pretty much made this dude cry. The douchebag was the neighborhood bully and after they punked him dude never bucked up again. The way they punked him was even hilarious. One of the funniest dudes I’ve ever met growing up. His grandma was such a nice person. We were all a sports family back then and if you messed with one you messed with all. So glad to see Dallas still involved with the sport.
His catcher calling the game that day was Landon Powell from my alma mater The University of SC. He is now the head coach of North Greenville University here in SC about 10 minutes from my house. Last year his team won the NCAA Division ll national championship. Landon was also named by the NCAA to the all time college World Series team as a catcher after his 3 appearances with the Gamecocks in Omaha. When his name comes up around here people still know him as that guy who caught that perfect game. This was a great video! Really enjoyed it!
Joey, this is your best video ever! Only you could truly tell the tale of one Dallas Braden.. He is the embodiment of what Baseball is truly about! Besides being one of the funniest humans ever, his heart and love of the fans and his community is what makes him an amazing human being! This Vid is your Opus Pal!
These animations of a sport that doesent exist are spot on, give your animators, and voice actors a raise, it makes this imaginary sport feel very real. And I cant belive you wrote a history that spans about 100 years, the lore is absaloutley amazing.
Everything about this man is awesome. Stays in Stockton as an MLBer, uses stoner ingenuity to prolong his career, and he clowned ARod? Absolute legend.
I had Braden on my fantasy team in 2009 and 2010, and designated him a keeper. Kept him on my roster for the entire 2011 season despite being injured. Thank you for the memories DB!
I had a fantasy team with horrible pitching, like I had to add and drop people after their starts to try to win accumulation stat categories. The one constant I had was Braden who was my ace. Snuck into the playoffs that year.
This was amazing. I am so glad you did this video. The story of Dallas is truly the story of an underdog who accomplished greatness. Thank you @baseballdoesntexist for the great video as always. Your content is amazing.
As a lifelong A’s fan, it was an honor to watch Dallas pitch. He was always fighting during every start and left it all out on the field. I’ve had the pleasure to meet him twice and have conversations with him. I told him about how I watched his perfect game on Mother’s Day with my grandmother and mom (both lifelong A’s fans as well) and how it’s still one of the most important baseball moments of my life. He was appreciative of me sharing this story and was a very down to earth person. I’m so happy to have him involved in the A’s organization and we couldn’t ask for a better ambassador to represent us misfits. PS sell the team!
I wish I had heard this guys story when I was in high school, I would have dumped class and jumped into pursuing baseball with this type of tenacity. Truly inspiring, and crazy.
I wish we could get a BDE and JxmyHighroller crossover. For the NBA and MLB fans. Both give the best analysis on ANY story related to their respective sports.
I cannot imagine waking up late, hungover, practically no practice, and then pitching a perfect game. I know nothing about baseball, but I know that is something truly legendary.
Such an amazing story. As a Rays fan, I remember that perfect game, unbelievable. I love this channel. I rarely watch baseball anymore, but this channel rekindles the fire.
This video sat in my recommended tad for weeks. Idk what it was about this particular video of BDE's, but it never drew me in. I'm currently 12 minutes in and can say that this is hands down the best story I've seen on this channel. Amazing work BDE!
This is an incredible story, wish this was covered more. He’s a really cool and funny dude from everything I’ve seen. I remember that perfect game very well the story behind it is insane.
Rube Waddell is the biggest maniac in baseball. Would drop everything in the middle of a game to chase a fire truck, told his teammates to get the field, would fight fans in stands, ect
He was a hero once, when the backstop of a stadium lit on fire when he was pitching and because he want to be like a firefighter, he whacked the fire out
@vintagekid4709 Yeah. One of his craziest moments was when his manager didn’t like him drinking so he demstrated how worms in alcohol died in a split second. The manager thought it would teach Rube to not drink, but Rube said: “thanks for the lesson, now I know not to put worms in by drink” or something like that.
The weed resin thing is something I always wondered about. I would always think what if a pitcher just rolled up before a game had sticky fingers and kept the residue on his hands for the stickiness, now it’s illegal and it’s already been thought of 😂😂
Did you mention he threw the perfect game on mothers day? I grew up watching Dallas play with my younger brothers at both Hoover Tyler Little League (shown in video next to the levee, also Robert gray & Ramone Glasgow were well ahead of their peers then) & Stagg. I met him once many years ago while waiting in line at Gamestop for the madden release. He was asking for cowboy fans who could name 10 players on the current team & he'd take them up to the front of the lineb& reimburse them 4 their pre order. I was a 49er fan but easily could have named 10 & should have. Next time I was in line at a bank of America with a former stockton bears football cheerleader & he was ahead of us. I told her who he was & he'd played football with our brothers. He turned & shook my hand introducing himself as Dallas Braden. I said I know who you are sir. I grew up watching you play & mothers day was special. He's an interesting person & I'm glad he's found success after baseball.
This video gave me so much respect for Dallas tbh. As a yankee fan, i didnt like him. Now i realize that him and i aren't so different. I lost my mother to gleoblastoma when i was very young. Ive grown up struggling. Much respect to Dallas Braden.
Hey man. I've maybe made six UA-cam comments since its' inception but I gotta say, your videos are phenomenal! I look forward to the notification that you have a new video. Keep doing amazing work!
Holy hell! We need a movie on this guy!!!!!! His story is pretty dang awesome. Well, his mother passing away wasn’t awesome obviously. But the rest of it is nuts! This guy used Bong resin to help him pitch 😂. What a mad man!
Dallas Braden is 39 years old. Nate Diaz is 38. They both grew up in Stockton. They might not have known each other, but it’s crazy to think they grew up in the same place and they are who they are now.
All of this was great, but the thing that stands out to me is his attitude towards Stockton. Even if you're from a sh!thole, this is the right attitude to have towards your home. Much respect.
“Did your grandma take your test for you”
“It takes a village” 😂😂😂😂
The fact that the scout who drafted him went to his house to try to get Dallas to reject the signing is criminal.
